The Rinnegan is one of the most powerful Kekkei Genkai to exist in the world of Naruto, if not the most powerful. It is the strongest of the three great Dojutsu, and it is said to possess godly powers that can rule over life and death itself.
Over the years, only two known mortals have managed to awaken the Rinnegan, which just goes to show how rare this power truly is. Few other powers from the series can match up to it while most just pale in comparison. Here are some powers from Naruto that can rival the Rinnegan and those that don't stand a chance.
Updated on October 19th, 2020 by Josh Davison: The Rinnegan was the gold-standard for the "over-powered superhuman ability" in Naruto when it was first introduced. Nagato, aka Pain, unleashed a new kind of destruction upon Konoha when he arrived onto the scene, but this also seemed to unlock something in the series. The ante needed to be upped, and all sorts of crazy abilities have arrived in its wake. This trend has only continued through Boruto, and, while the Rinnegan still provides its wielder with incredible power, it's no longer the end-all be-all of the shinobi world. With that in mind, let's dive back into the legendary Rinnegan and look at another two powers that can rival the Rinnegan--and another two that don't stand a chance against it.
14 CAN RIVAL: Space-Time Ninjutsu
The practice of Space-Time Ninjutsu has been mastered by very few shinobi over the years, but it was most notably used by Tobirama Senju and Minato Namikaze, aka the Second and Fourth Hokages. It's also known to be accessible through mastery of the Mangekyo Sharingan. It's largely used to teleport the user through great distances, but it can also open space-time rifts capable of tearing victims apart.
On its own, Space-Time Ninjutsu may not be enough to take down a seasoned Rinnegan wielder, but it could be a vital technique in gaining the advantage against someone with a Rinnegan Eye. Space-Time Ninjutsu is capable of great destruction and instantaneous teleportation, and that can be used in conjuction with other techniques to bring down a Rinnegan-wielder.
13 DOESN'T STAND A CHANCE: Strength Of A Hundred Seal
The Strength of a Hundred Seal is a power primarily used by Tsunade Senju and Sakura Haruno. It allows the user to store a lot of chakra like a reserve and access whenever needed. It can increase strength and stamina to a tremendous degree, and it can be shared with allies as shown by Tsunade during the Fourth Great Shinobi War. It also grants its user a connection to the giant slug Katsuyu.
All of this said, none of these capabilities even broaches the range of abilities provided by the Rinnegan Eye. Ultimately, this would only be an annoyance to one wielding the Rinnegan, and it would end with another victory for the Rinnegan.
12 CAN RIVAL: Tenseigan
The Tenseigan is a Kekkei Genkai of the Otsutsuki that only a few known members seem to possess. This eye can be awakened once the Byakugan is coupled with strong Otsutsuki blood. So far, Hamura Otsutsuki and Toneri Otsutsuki are the only two known users of this eye.
Nonetheless, its powers are nothing short of incredible, and some aspects of it, such as the attraction and repulsion, are similar to the Rinnegan itself. It offers the user enough power to destroy the moon or the earth without much trouble.
11 DOESN'T STAND A CHANCE: Sharingan
The Kekkei Genkai of the Uchiha, Sharingan is the eye that is awakened through a strong emotion or trauma. Like the Rinnegan, the Sharingan is one of the Three Great Dojutsu, and its powers are not to be underestimated.
The Sharingan is known to see through all of the ninjutsu, genjutsu, and even taijutsu, making it extremely powerful. Furthermore, a user of this eye can also copy the Jutsu of others, unless they're Kekkei Genkai or Hiden techniques. The Sharingan can be further evolved into powerful eyes, but that requires a significant sacrifice.
10 CAN RIVAL: Mangekyo Sharingan
Mangekyo Sharingan is the first and primary evolution of the Sharingan Eye. It unlocks incredible powers for its wielder, primarily earth-shattering ninjutsu, mind-melting genjutsu, and techniques that literally tear a hole in time and space.
Rinnegan can absorb and repel much fo what is sent against it, but the Mangekyo Sharingan offers such versatility and startling power that even a seasoned Rinnegan user would have trouble against someone like Itachi Uchiha or Kakashi Hatake. Planetary Devastation doesn't mean much when your opponent can just pull you into a pocket demensiona and convince you that you're being crucified.
9 DOESN'T STAND A CHANCE: Sage Mode
Sage Mode was first introduced through Jiraiya and soon adopted by Naruto Uzumaki. It is an enhanced state of being taught by the Great Toad Sages of Mount Myoboku. However, it was later revealed that the First Hokage and the Fourth Hokage had access to their own versions of the Sage Mode.
That said, even Jiraiya didn't stand a chance against Pain when he fought him using the Sage Mode, and Naruto, though able to hold his own against Pain, ultimately won the day through the power offered by the Nine-Tailed Fox. Thankfully, there is a far more powerful version of the Sage Mode.
8 CAN RIVAL: Six Paths Sage Mode
The Six Paths Sage Mode is quite possibly one of the strongest known abilities to have ever appeared in Naruto. This power was granted to Naruto Uzumaki by the Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo Otsutsuki.
Its powers proved to be so magnificent that Naruto Uzumaki jumped from not being able to touch Madara Uchiha in a fight to absolutely demolishing him. Over the years, its appearance has changed but Naruto's usage of this form has only gotten stronger.
7 DOESN'T STAND A CHANCE: Byakugan
The last one of the Three Great Dojutsu, the Byakugan is actually the most complicated of them all. Although this eye was initially introduced to us as a Kekkei Genkai of the Hyuga Clan, it was later revealed that the Otsutsuki clan also possessed this majestic eye as their Kekkei Genkai.
The eyes of the Otsutsuki differ from that of the Hyuga and appear to be much stronger. Kinshiki Otsutsuki, for instance, was able to perform space-time ninjutsu through his Byakugan, which isn't possible for any Hyuga clan members.
6 CAN RIVAL: Karma
The Karma is one of the most intriguing powers to have been introduced to us in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Although how one can acquire this isn't known, it seems that it is branded to those who manage to kill an Otsutsuki clan member.
Boruto Uzumaki, Jigen, and Kawaki are the only known members of this power. Its basic stage allows the user to absorb ninjutsu and release powerful energy blasts. The second stage is much more powerful and gives the user an appearance similar to the Otsutsuki clan members. How exactly it functions isn't known.
5 DOESN'T STAND A CHANCE: Ketsuryugan
The Dojutsu of the Chinoike clan, the Ketsuryugan is a powerful eye technique that is said to be comparable to the Three Great Dojutsu in terms of power. It is known to grant two major powers to the owners, the first one being a very powerful Genjutsu that can be cast via skin contact, or eye contact.
The second power of this eye allows its users to manipulate any liquid with a high iron concentration. As such, it is a very powerful weapon for anyone to come up against.
4 CAN RIVAL: Rinne-Sharingan
The Rinne-Sharingan is the most powerful known eye in the entire Narutoverse. It s wielded by the Ten-tails, and the progenitor of chakra on Earth, Kaguya Otsutsuki.
The Rinne-Sharingan has nearly all the powers of the Rinnegan, along with the ability to cast powerful Genjutsu known as Infinite Tsukuyomi. Furthermore, this eye can also use some very interesting space-time ninjutsu abilities that, if used properly, prove to be deadly.
3 DOESN'T STAND A CHANCE: Wood Release
Wood Release is one of the strongest known Kekkei Genkai to exist in the world of Naruto. It first manifested in Hashirama Senju, who used its powers to bring peace to the Shinobi World.
A user of this Kekkei Genkai can combine earth and water release to create forest life which can then be manipulated according to the user. While strong, this power isn't enough to compare to the Rinnegan since it can simply absorb any form of ninjutsu, and Wood Release is no exception.
2 CAN RIVAL: Jougan
The Jougan is the most recent visual jutsu to have been introduced to us in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. This eye has only been wielded by Boruto Uzumaki so far, however, it is said to be an Otsutsuki clan Dojutsu.
Its powers haven't been explained completely yet, but it can see the tears in time and space, along with being able to locate the weak points of the enemies. While the extent of its abilities hasn't been revealed to us, we do know that it'll be strong enough to rival the Otsutsuki power, which makes it comparable to the Rinnegan.
1 DOESN'T STAND A CHANCE: Dust Release
Dust Release is a Kekkei Tota ability that is unique to some shinobi of the Hidden Rock Village, such as Mu and Onoki. This ability is extremely overpowered as it allows the user to disintegrate anything on a molecular level when hit.
While that does make it incredibly powerful, the Rinnegan is powerful enough to absorb anything thrown its way, which means that the Dust Release is just as useless as any other Jutsu against it.
