As a show geared primarily towards teenaged boys, the Naruto franchise is full of characters who are immature and prone to shenanigans. Many of the jokes throughout the series involve passing gas, pranking teachers, and transforming into attractive women to embarrass world leaders. While many of the characters have moments of immaturity, there are a few that take the cake.

Some are immature for their childish humor and inability to take missions seriously. Others are immature for their close-minded world views and their insensitivity. In considering all these reasons a character might be deemed immature, here are the top ten most immature characters in Naruto.

10 Neji Hyuga Almost Killed Hinata Because Of His Hatred Of The Main Family

Naji Hyuga

Neji Hyuga is one of the most mature of the Konoha 11, but even he has had moments where his immature side flared up. Most notably, this happened during his fight with Hinata during the preliminaries to the Chunin Exam's third stage. Neji's hatred of the main family is understandable, but he allowed that hatred to poison his reasons for becoming a strong ninja, and he took it out on one of the most kind-hearted and gentle of the Hyuga clan. It was not until Naruto beat him that he began to understand how immature that was.

9 Ino Has A Tendency To Say The Wrong Things And Is Too Hung Up On Sasuke

Ino looks back over her shoulder and smiles serenely

Ino Yamanaka is infamous for her feud with Sakura Haruno over the attention of Konoha's bad-boy, Sasuke Uchiha. However, while Sakura begins to grow out of her hopeless romantic stage (though she still harbors a lot of feelings for Sasuke) Ino is still wrapped up in her image and Sasuke's attention. On top of that, Ino frequently puts her foot in her mouth and insults people like Choji without thinking how it will affect them. This sometimes gets her into trouble, but more often than not, Ino is overlooked.

8 Sai Needs To Learn How To Talk To People Without Accidentally Insulting Them

Sail looks down, expressionless

Like Ino, Sai also has a bad habit of saying the wrong thing. However, it is not exactly Sai's fault. Growing up training with Root, he was brainwashed into repressing all of his emotions, and because of this, he cannot understand how certain things affect people.

As a result, he says the wrong thing a lot. He often calls Sakura ugly and insults Naruto's intelligence. Even though it is not Sai's fault that he has to relearn how to work with others, he still has a bit of maturing to do before he can overcome this obstacle.

7 Sakura Is Mature Until Sasuke Is Involved

Sakura is mid-jutsu

Sakura Haruno spent the entire first series of Naruto being head-over-heels for Sasuke, and this caused a lot of tension because it hindered her from helping out on missions. By the time of Naruto: Shippūden, she has grown a lot, and her apprenticeship with Lady Tsunade helps her achieve some of that maturity. However, it becomes clear during the first mission with Sai that she has not changed all that much. She punches Sai for insulting Sasuke, she cries and cannot help Naruto when he transforms, and she has a vindictive streak directed at Sai throughout the mission.

6 Sasuke Thinks He Is Mature, But His Decisions Seem Petulant

Sasuke from grimaces; his curse mark is visible on his neck

Sasuke Uchiha thinks he is really mature when he leaves the village and goes off with Orochimaru to get strong enough to kill Itachi, but every time fans run into him, he acts like a demanding child who does not understand the world. While he is undoubtedly strong, his priorities are out of whack, and his attitude needs a lot of work.

Furthermore, Sasuke is ungrateful to both Orochimaru and Naruto for their help. Of course, fans can understand why he would not seem grateful to Orochimaru, but his inability to recognize Naruto and Sakura (even if it is to break their bond so he can focus on other things) is beyond immature.

5 Hinata Can't Talk To Naruto Without Passing Out

Hinata stands in the forest smiling

Hinata Hyuga can't help but acknowledge Naruto, who she has a huge crush on. She is so flustered around Naruto that she even passes out when he gives her too much attention. It is difficult for a ninja to work when their own teammates make them faint. On top of that, the Hyuga clan sees her gentle nature as a sign of immaturity, as she is not hardened to the horrors of the ninja world.

Eventually, Hinata shows them the inherent power in being kind and gentle, but for the most part, she still needs to work on not fainting every time she talks to Naruto one-on-one.

4 Rock Lee Has His Morals In The Right Place, But He Goes Way Overboard

Rock lee interrupts Kimimaro and strikes the famous Bruce Lee pose

Rock Lee is without a doubt a splendid ninja. He pushed through his inability to use ninjutsu and worked hard enough to become a taijutsu master, much to the astonishment of the many who told him he could never be a true shinobi. However, his blind adherence to everything Might guy says, in addition to his incessant note-taking and self-punishment for his failures, is the definition of overboard. Rock Lee truly needs to find his independence from Might Guy and learn how to take things at the appropriate stride, rather than barreling into everything at full force.

3 Jiraiya May Be The Toad Sage, But His Obsession With Women Is Too Much

Jiraiya stands in his signature, Kabuki inspired, pose with a wacky look on his face

The Toad Sage and Legendary Sannin, Jiraiya, is the old, wise master that teaches Naruto Uzumaki most of what he knows. However, this incredibly powerful veteran ninja also has a huge immature side. For one, he writes romance novels that make even the most hardened ninja, like Kakashi Hatake, blush from embarrassment (though they can't put the books away). In addition to that, his peeping-Tom habit is out of hand and extremely unacceptable. While it is played off as a joke throughout the series, it certainly is not okay by any means.

2 Kiba Is Irresponsible And Lackadaisical

Akamaru licks Kiba's face

Kiba Inuzuka likes to think he is mature, or at least more mature than Naruto, but there are many reasons he is too immature to become a truly powerful ninja. First, he tends to be lazy. In the academy, he would often skip class, but he lacked the tactical talent that Shikamaru, another notoriously lazy character, has. To make matters worse, he is loud, obnoxious, and positive he is the strongest in the room, despite his lack of accomplishments. In the end, it is often Kiba's hypocrisy that does him in, and that is not even considering his dynamic marking move, a jutsu that relies on dog urine.

1 Naruto Is The Number One Knuckle-Headed Ninja

Naruto holds his fist out during his fight with Neji for the Chunin Exams

There is a reason Naruto Uzumaki is called the Hidden Leaf's Number One Knuckle-headed Ninja, and it's not because he is mature. As a kid, he was infamous for his graffiti, vandalism, and practical jokes. He painted the faces of the Hokage Rock, took ridiculous class photos, and acted out in school. As he grew older, he became notorious for rushing into fights without thinking. However, his claims to knuckle-head fame are his sexy-jutsu, his gas (which even saved him during his fight with Kiba), and his gullibility.
