Do Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's creative team members watch Boruto: Naruto Next Generations? One fan seems to think so.In a Twitter post, a Boruto fanatic, who goes by the username dasien, argues that the anime sequel greatly inspired the latest animated superhero movie. They use what they perceive as visually similar moments in both IPs to make their point with examples including scenes where Miles and Gwen and Boruto and Sarada sit next to each other, where Miles and Boruto both fall into a colorful background and where the two young heroes both stand triumphantly.RELATED: Across the Spider-Verse Producer Reacts to Hollywood's Current Multiverse Obsession

Further Comparisons Between Boruto and the MCU

The Boruto fan goes on claim that the ninja series also inspired an epic fight scene in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Captain America: The Winter Solider. While some viewers like dasien sing the praises of the anime's visuals, others are much more critical. Many have described Boruto's animation as one of its largest weak points; for example, one online commentator highlighted a specific sequence where Naruto Sarada and Mitsuki bounce up and down instead of running.

Taking place after the anime classics Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, Boruto debuted in April 2017, with industry veteran Noriyuki Abe (Black Butler: Book of Circus) serving as the project's director. The story follows the titular preteen -- the son of Naruto, the Seventh Hokage -- as he trains to become a great ninja and navigates the complicated relationship with his father. Beyond the show are light novels, video games and a Boruto manga series.

Across the Spider-Verse had its wide theatrical release on June 2 and almost quadrupled the opening box office earnings of its predecessor, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Bringing in over $120 million, it currently stands as the film with the second-biggest opening weekend in 2023 and the third-biggest debut for any previous Spider-Man movie. Across the Spider-Verse has so far been widely praised by both critics and fans and has already received awards recognition, being nominated in the Best Animation/Family category at this year's Golden Trailer Awards. However, some viewers have complained about issues with the audio, which co-writer Phil Lord recently addressed on social media.

The sequel continues the multiverse-spanning plot of Into the Spider-Verse and sees Miles travel to other dimensions. It boasts a massive star-studded cast that includes Shameik Moore as Miles and Oscar Isaac as Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099.

Across the Spider-Verse is currently playing in theaters, and Boruto is available on Crunchyroll.
