Obito Uchiha has been a force to be reckoned with in the Naruto series. It wasn’t until the second half of the show when we pick up on his backstory and what led to his dark turn. His actions have affected many of our characters throughout the series run, including his former teammate Kakashi.

He started out as a member of the Akatsuki under his alias Tobi before revealing himself to be the true leader of the rogue ninja organization. His supposed death has been a mystery until it was revealed that he survived and became a main antagonist. There’s still a lot we don’t know about Obito, so we narrowed down some facts everyone should know about the former ninja soldier-turned-enemy.

10 Madara is Implied To Be His Direct Ancestor

obito and madara during the war in naruto

The Uchiha name has been associated with Madara, who became one of the co-founders of Konoha Village before becoming the main villain of the series. After almost losing his life on a mission, Obito ends up meeting Madara who trains him to carry on his legacy to create the perfect Ninja world. When Obito first comes into contact with Madara, he refers to him as his precious forefather. Having Obito say that could mean that he is a direct descendant of the legendary ninja. It does explain the reasoning behind taking up Madara’s namesake as his own after becoming leader of the Akatsuki.

9 Obito Has Four Kekkei Genkais

Naruto Obito Uchiha

Obito has showcased his full power during the Naruto Shippuuden series with his diverse set of techniques. During his fight in the Fourth Ninja World War arc, we get to see Obito use four different types of kekkei genkai. The first three are the eyes that he possesses, including the Sharingan, Mangekyo Sharingan, and the Rinnegan. As an Uchiha, Obito already possessed the Sharingan but managed to obtain the Mangekyo power after witnessing the death of his comrade Rin at the hands of his other teammate Kakashi. The Rinnegan was in Obito’s possession after Nagato’s death as he implanted them on his left eye. The fourth genkai that Obito uses is the wood release technique which was given to him after Madara replaced his broken limbs with part of Hashirama’s flesh.

8 Obito Is Also A Fire User

In games like Ultimate Ninja Storm, certain characters like Obito can use other styles of jutsu that was never covered in the show or manga. In the second installment of the Ultimate Ninja Storm series, we see that Obito can use fire-style techniques.

We did see him use it on the show as a young ninja but that was the only time we got to witness seeing him display that ability in the series. What’s weird is that we only got to see him use the fire jutsu in his mask similar to Kakashi. Makes us wonder what other techniques Obito can use that we never saw.

7 Obito Had Plans To Attack The Hidden Leaf A Second Time

Obito and Itachi talking

After attacking the Hidden Leaf Village when Naruto was born, Obito did have a plan to attack his hometown again. However, Itachi would find out about Obito and his attack on the village. Itachi ended up approaching Obito and struck a deal with him to help launch an attack on their Uchiha clan. In exchange, Obito would leave the Hidden Leaf alone and he accepted their arrangement. The deal was ultimately revealed to be the reason why Itachi had to attack his own clan and leave his little brother Sasuke alive in order to protect his village. It was a sacrifice that Itachi had to make in order to stop Obito from hurting the village again.

6 Tobi Was An Alias For Obito

Naruto: Shippūden's Obito Uchiha disguised as Tobi

When we were first introduced to Obito, we knew him first as Tobi. His alter ego was described as a silly foil to the Akatsuki, but it actually stemmed from White Zetsu. The fourth data book revealed this fact and it makes some sense since the mask is made out of White Zetsu’s prosthetics. Obito’s alias allowed him to work behind the scenes in forming his organization and orchestrate some events that took place prior to the show in order to bring his plan into fruition. White Zetsu’s pattern on his body helped shape the mask that Obito uses early on in the series with his true identity concealed until the final arc of Naruto Shippuuden.

5 Obito’s Only Relative Was His Grandmother

Just like Naruto, Obito grew up without his parents. In the manga, it seemed like Obito was living off on his own but the anime revealed that he was being cared for by his grandmother. On the show, Obito’s grandmother was the only living relative who was his legal guardian.

She appeared in one of the filler episodes of Naruto Shippuuden. Even though we only saw her in one episode, we did get to see Obito’s home life as we know that he didn’t have parents growing up. Her hopes for Obito are a bright future for himself despite not knowing what dark future awaited him later in life as foretold in the series.

4 The Use Of The Mangekyo Sharingan Doesn’t Blind Obito

For those familiar with how the Mangekyo Sharingan works, they know that it would render the user blind if they use it excessively. It’s the reason why we see Itachi and Kakashi bleeding out their eyes whenever they use its power. However, it doesn’t seem to be the case for Obito when he uses these ocular powers. Once Obito uses the Mangekyo power, he doesn’t lose his eyesight and is able to use the ability with ease. It hasn’t been explained as to how he’s able to do that, but there have been some theories on how it’s possible. One of them is due to the healing properties of the White Zetsu that covers his body. Whatever the case, Obito has been quite the master when it comes to using this special Uchiha power.

3 Obito Isn’t Actually A Senjutsu User

Obito Uchiha Six Paths in Naruto

Despite being a user of the Six Path’s senjustsu, Obito isn’t actually a natural user of the technique. After creating his own Six Paths of Pain, Obito was able to use the senjutsu ability to become the Jinchuriki of the Ten Tails. Senjutsu is bestowed upon those who can use natural energy from within to unlock this technique. Only the Sage of the Six Paths has been able to use this ability along with his descendants. Somehow Obito was able to use the ability once he converted the dead Jinchuriki into reanimated versions of the Six Paths of Pain.

2 Obito’s Actual Appearance Happened In Naruto

Even though Obito makes his appearance as an antagonist in Naruto Shippuden, we find out more about him in the first series. During the special episodes titled the Kakashi Chronicles, we learn about Kakashi’s friendship with Obito and how he acquired the Sharingan from him before his supposed death.

Obito shared the same dreams as Naruto to become the next Hokage. He even had similar outfits and attitude like our titular hero. It shows just how these two are more alike than they realize. Obito has made a number of appearances throughout the series until the end of Naruto Shippuden.

1 Obito Has Used The Infinite Tsukuyomi Before

Before the ultimate battle in Naruto Shippuden, Obito did actually use the Infinite Tsukuyomi. If you have watched the Naruto movie Road To Ninja, you would have noticed that Obito fought against Naruto and Sakura using the technique to trap them in another reality. However, the catch is that the powerful technique was only limited, the effects were still the same as it trapped Naruto and Sakura in a genjutsu-based spell trapping them in an alternate reality.
