Choji is the leader of the Akimichi clan and one of Konoha's 11 in Naruto. Choji is considered one of the kindest shinobi in the village and is fiercely loyal to his friends. Despite his weight sensitivity, Choji's strength is derived from his ability to convert calories into chakra.

As a member of Team Asuma, Choji trained hard in order to master his clan's signature technique: the Body Expansion Jutsu. Choji then built a repertoire of diverse jutsu using Body Expansion as a parent technique. This earned Choji the right to be considered one of Konoha's strongest shinobi.

10 The Body Expansion Jutsu Is An Akimichi Clan Specialty

The Body Expansion Jutsu allows its user to convert calories into chakra. By doing so, they can grow in size to proportionately increase their strength to make their attacks more powerful. Body Expansion can allow its user to grow to gigantic proportions or else apply the technique only to specific body parts.

Choji's mastery of the Body Expansion Jutsu was influential in his journey as a shinobi. He used it offensively to ward off opponents in battle, growing larger than life to deliver cataclysmic blows against enemy ninja. During the Fourth Ninja War, Choji used this technique for several hours to obliterate entire armies of White Zetsu on his own.

9 The Human Boulder Weaponizes An Akimichi's Weight & Rotation Against Enemies

Choji Akamichi Barrels Forward Using The Human Boulder Jutsu, Naruto Shippuden

After performing the Body Expansion Jutsu, a user rolls their body into a ball and barrels quickly toward their target. By increasing their size and torque, an Akimichi can pulverize anything they come into contact with using the Human Boulder Jutsu. This technique does have one disadvantage: the ball's speed reduces its user's mobility and prevents them from turning on a dime.

The Human Boulder Jutsu became Choji's signature technique during his Chunin Exam debut. He made it to the exam's second phase before facing off against Dosu the Sound Ninja. Although he was defeated, Choji later used the Human Boulder Jutsu to escape Jirobo's Earth Dome before soundly defeating him.

8 The Ballistic Human Water Wheel Adds Water Weight To The Human Boulder Jutsu

Choji Akamichi Uses Ballistic Human Water Wheel, Naruto

The Ballistic Human Water Wheel enables its user to swallow large amounts of water from an enemy's Water Release jutsu. By subsequently performing the Human Boulder Jutsu, the added water gives the user extra weight to increase the damage done against opponents and their surroundings.

Choji invented the Ballistic Human Water Wheel while protecting the Land of Green's daimyo from a group of assassins. After his group was intercepted by the Janin, Choji swallowed Ruiga's Water Jutsu and turned his attack against him. Choji helped save the Land of Green's daimyo by inventing this jutsu.

7 The Expansion Jutsu: Super Slap Uses Chakra To Create Craters In The Earth

After becoming gigantic, an Akimichi channels chakra into their hands for increased weight and strength. The chakra-dense hand has the power to create craters in the earth, while any enemies caught beneath the Expansion Jutsu: Super Slap are crushed. Likewise, any surrounding structures like buildings or mountains are completely obliterated.

Choji used the Expansion Jutsu: Super Slap to reduce the number of White Zetsu clones during the Fourth Ninja War. He created deep depressions in the battlefield with each strike, causing terrible tremors with each devastating impact. Meanwhile, the White Zetsu caught beneath the blows were reduced to dust.

6 The Spiked Human Boulder Adds Kunai For Cutting Damage

Choji Akamichi About To Strike Using Spiked Human Boulder, Naruto Shippuden

The Spiked Human Boulder differs from its parent technique in one way: its user wraps themselves in kunai ropes before becoming the Human Boulder. Now armed with spikes, they barrel toward their enemy with increased speed and rotation. On impact, they also severely damage their target due to the kunai's cutting strength.

After first developing this technique against Jirobo, Choji improved the Spiked Human Boulder after becoming a Chunin. He removed the necessity for kunai ropes by enveloping himself in sharps hairs reminiscent of Jiraiya's Needle Jizo Jutsu. This increased the number of spikes while decreasing the technique's execution time.

5 The Super Expansion Jutsu Can Flatten Entire Villages

Choji Wrecks Jirobo Using The Super Expansion Jutsu, Naruto

The Super Expansion Jutsu improves on its parent technique by allowing the user to grow to the size of a mountain. Due to the technique's chakra requirements, it causes great strain on the body and can even kill its user in extreme cases. The Akimichi developed the Three Colored Pills to combat this effect.

Choji first used the Super Expansion Jutsu while facing Jirobo during the Sasuke Retrieval Mission. After realizing he wasn't strong enough, Choji took the first of the Three Colored Pills to perform the technique. He completely destroyed a large patch of forest by falling onto it and nearly killed Jirobo during the process.

4 The Ino-Shika-Cho Combination Is One Of Konoha's Strongest Coordination Ninjutsu

The Ino-Shika-Cho Combination is a coordination ninjutsu that utilizes unique skills from three Konoha clans: the Nara, Yamanaka, and Akimichi. After using the Nara's Shadow Possession and Yamanaka's Mind Transfer to immobilize enemies, the Akimichi use Body Expansion to kill their immobilized enemies. The Ino-Shika-Cho Combination has multiple formations, each utilizing each individual's different jutsu.

Choji, Ino, and Shikamaru are the 16th generation of shinobi to serve as the Ino-Shika-Cho Combination. As is traditional, the group learned the Combo's four main formations and often used them in battle. Additionally, they invented "Formation E" which became Ino-Shika-Cho's strongest formation following the Fourth Ninja War.

3 Choji's Butterfly Mode Converts His Body Weight Into Chakra

Choji Akamichi Uses Butterfly Mode For The Second Time, Naruto Shippuden

An Akimichi clan member can enter Butterfly mode by converting massive amounts of calories into chakra. This chakra becomes visible, forming wings around the user that are capable of creating gusts of chakra-infused wind. Additionally, its user's combat ability is greatly enhanced.

Although Butterfly Mode typically requires its user to consume the Akimichi's Three Colored Pills, Choji managed to produce the technique using Calorie Control. This allowed him to convert his body weight into chakra at will, removing Butterfly Mode's fatal risks.

2 The Butterfly Bomb Destroys Any Opponent In A Single Punch

After entering Butterfly Mode, an Akimichi's chakra manifests itself into a pair of blue butterfly wings. By manifesting this chakra into their fist, the user strikes opponents using the Butterfly Bomb with the full extent of their strength.

Choji used this technique while fighting against Reanimated Asuma during the Fourth Ninja War. The strength of his blow was enough to fracture the ground for several hundred feet, rendering Asuma defenseless against Team 10's sealing jutsu. Likewise, Choji used the Butterfly Bomb against an army of White Zetsu to reduce them to dust.

1 The Human Boulder Yo-Yo Utilized The Strongest Attacks Of Team 10's Members

Ino Yamanaka Uses Human Boulder Yo-Yo, Naruto Shippuden

The Human Boulder Yo-yo is “Formation E” in the Ino-Shika-Cho Combination. Shikamaru invented it before the Fourth Ninja War. After Choji performs the Human Boulder Jutsu, Shikamaru uses Shadow Possession on them to control their movements. Meanwhile, Ino uses Sensory Jutsu to lock onto targets within a wide range. By transmitting this information to their teammates, opponents can be struck with deadly accuracy.

The Shinobi Alliance owes their victory, in part, to Team 10's use of this technique. The Human Boulder Yo-yo enlisted the individual strengths of each of its members, tying them in to a perfectly coordinated ninjutsu that was unmatched by previous generations of Ino-Shika-Cho. The Human Boulder Yo-yo never could've succeeded without each of its members, as all three were essential to the technique's success.
