Few ninjas can match Naruto's hard work, helping lead him to accomplish things no ninja his age should have been capable of. While he did have a high aptitude for things, all of Naruto's skills are from putting his nose to the grindstone and getting things done. It's a habit that Boruto eventually adopts as well.

Surprisingly, given that Boruto originally tried taking the easy way out of everything, he's managed to surpass his father in some ways. Not just in the jutsu he's created either, but as a person as well.

10 Create Variants Of The Rasengan

Boruto training to perfect the Rasengan.

It took Naruto a time skip before he started dabbling in changes to the Rasengan. The same didn't hold true of Boruto who's already created a variant all his own around the same time that Naruto was first learning the original jutsu. Boruto created the Vanishing Rasengan, as named by Sasuke. It's a Rasengan infused with his lightning element, allowing the attack to appear as if it's vanished, giving it a further element of surprise once it strikes. He's capable of having it go into a giant form as well.

9 Teacher & Student Rasengan

Rasengan in Boruto.

Naruto never had the chance to do this as many of his mentors that weren't named Kakashi ended up dead before the opportunity could arrive. Boruto was given the opportunity when battling a haze ninja named Yuga. To stall Konohamaru's team, he summoned the strange Pikachu looking creature above. It proved far stronger and sturdier than it looked, taking the efforts of both Konohamaru and Boruto combining their Rasengan to take him out.

8 Able To Use Multiple Releases

Naruto and Boruto at home

Even in the later parts of the series, Naruto was mostly using wind release jutsu as he was never a character that had a large jutsu wheelhouse. He was merely great at improving the ones he did have, pushing them to their absolute peak.

Boruto, on the other hand, has managed to branch out, using three different elemental releases. While lightning is his affinity, he's capable of using a few water and wind release jutsu as well.

7 Summoning Powerful Jutsu

Garaga, the personal summon of Boruto

Naruto gained the ability once he went away to train in the arts of sage mode, granting him a number of toad allies at his disposal. Boruto managed to gain the skill in half the time, gaining Garaga for a period of time during the Mitsuki Disappearance arc. Their relationship was far less friendly than what Naruto had, but they still effectively worked well together when needed. The fact the summon was a snake furthered the bond he and Sasuke were having with one another.

6 Multiple String Light Formations

The string light formation was introduced very early in the series by Iruka as a means of restraining Naruto. At first, it worked but was soon overpowered by the strength of the nine tails chakra. Boruto incorporated the ability into his arsenal and expanded it. With the help of his fellow genin, he was able of making it strong enough to hold Konohamaru and even capture a person as powerful as Kakashi for some time. It showed how inventive he was as a ninja, just like his father.

5 Combining Jutsu To Create New Ones

This is the Naruto special, the future Hokage creating so many different techniques that were built off of the Shadow Clone Jutsu. He had something for just about every scenario, and it's something that Boruto picked up on as well.

Using his Wind Release: Gale Palm, Boruto managed to create the Boruto Stream, a technique that used the palm as a way of propelling himself or a clone forward at high speeds. It shows how versatile jutsu can be and how intelligent Boruto is to start doing it at a younger age than Naruto did.

4 Being Able To Use Gentle Fist

Boruto Using Gentle Fist

Given who his mother is, it's not that surprising that Boruto would have a grasp of the fighting style as quickly as he did. Hinata is one of the strongest Hyuga, both living and dead, it just never gets shown all that often as she prefers to avoid combat if she can. Boruto doesn't have the same inhibitions, and while he can't surpass his mother here, given that he lacks a Byakugan, he did manage to grasp it before his father ever even looked at his mother as more than a friend.

3 Gaining Incredible Powers From Kama

Boruto's Kama

By the end of the war, Naruto was granted godlike powers, becoming a reborn Sage of the Six Paths, putting him above everyone not named Sasuke. That all came at the series end, whereas Boruto receives his at the early stages, having been imprinted with Kama by Momkshiki. Kama is like a flash drive of Otsutsuki DNA, allowing them to imprint on a host and take them over when the time comes. As shown by the flash-forward, Boruto's powers will soon enough even dwarf his father's.

2 Making Genuine Friends

Boruto and his friends.

While they both share a degree of similarities, from how energetic they are to Boruto's tendency to run off on his own, their upbringing is far different. Boruto has a family that's there for him, unlike Naruto, who had to live life as an outcast. As such, Boruto is more well adjusted and capable of making friends, something Naruto didn't truly start to make until the tail end of the first half of the series, most still found him rather annoying until that point. Boruto, meanwhile has plenty of friends, even if Sarada finds him annoying at times.

1 Capable Of Changing His Perspective

Naruto Disowning Boruto Anime

For as great as Naruto's growth as a character was, it was often him changing the views of others rather than the other way around. Boruto, meanwhile, has gone through a ton of development in the series thus far, such as growing disdain towards taking the easy way, as he tried to do himself by using technology rather than hard work to get by. He also comes to respect his father thanks to Sasuke and the battle with Momoshiki, no longer holding a hatred of the Hokage title.
