Water style is one of the five basic nature transformations in Naruto and has many functions, including countering Fire Style jutsus and drowning opponents. Although it's effective against Fire Style, it's weak against Earth Style. The main characters, such as Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, do not use Water Style in their fights.

However, this does not mean Water Style lacks power. Water Style plays an important role in numerous characters' arsenals and remains relevant in combat throughout the series. How each character uses Water Release can significantly differ from each other, and thus it is not only powerful but also entertaining for viewers to watch.

10 Yamato Combines Earth & Water Style To Use Wood Release

Yamato ready to attack in Naruto Shippuden.

Yamato replaces Kakashi at the start of Naruto Shippuden as the leader of Team Seven. He has a reputation for using Wood Release, but he is also a proficient Water Style user. Yamato demonstrates how essential Water Style is to use Wood Release to his student, Naruto.

After Yamato trains Naruto, they both head straight to Kakashi's battle against Kakuzu to provide backup for Kakashi. Yamato combines his Water Style jutsu with Naruto's Wind Style jutsu to create the Water Typhoon Vortex Technique, which blocks Kakuzu's powerful ninjutsu attack.

9 Zabuza Momochi Is A Silent Killer

Zabuza is one of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist and possesses a strong affinity for Water Style. He is renowned for using the Water Release: Hiding in Mist Technique, which allows him to create mist and become invisible to his opponent. Zabuza excels at this technique and often uses it to assassinate others.

Additionally, he initially outperforms Kakashi using Water Style in their first duel during the Land of the Waves Arc. Zabuza's Water Release: Hiding in Mist Technique catches Kakashi off guard, and Zabuza capitalizes on this opportunity to trap him with the Water Prison Technique.

8  Kakashi Hatake Uses His Sharingan In Conjunction With Water Style

Because Kakashi has a Sharingan, he can copy his opponent's Water Style jutsus and use them to counter their attack. For instance, Kakashi ultimately gains the upper hand on Zabuza by copying and using Zabuza's techniques right back at him during the Land of Waves Arc.

After Kakashi copies Zabuza's Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet Technique and fires it back at him, he finishes Zabuza off with Water Release: Great Waterfall Technique. Zabuza does not have time to react, as Kakashi can unleash his Water Style jutsus quickly.

7 Suigetsu Can Liquefy His Body

Naruto Shippuden Suigestsu Melting His Body Through Prison Bars

Suigetsu is a member of Sasuke's Team Taka and takes pride in his ability to liquefy his body. This ability to liquefy himself impresses Orochimaru to the point where he captures Suigetsu to study it. He not only can avoid attacks by liquefying himself but also strengthen one of his limbs at his will.

Suigetsu shows off his prowess as a Water Style user during the Fourth Great Ninja War, as well. For example, he knocks out Zetsu Yamato, who is powerful enough to use Wood Style techniques on par with those of Hashirama, by shooting water bullets with his fingers.

6 Yagura Karatachi Lives Up To The Title Of Mizukage

Yagura As The 4th Mizukage

During his time as the Fourth Mizukage, Yagura is recognized as the strongest ninja of Kirigakure. He is also the Perfect Jinchuriki of the Three Tails, so he possesses large reserves of chakra. Yagura wields a club, which he can use to assist himself in performing Water Style.

Kabuto resurrects Yagura in Edo Tensei form during the Fourth Great Ninja War, and Yagura displays some of his powerful Water Style abilities during his fight with Naruto and Killer Bee. For instance, he uses the Water Release: Water Mirror Technique, which creates a replicated image of the opponent. If the opponent attacks the mirror, their reflected image attacks back with the same force, thereby nullifying their attack.

Kabuto in Sage Mode shows how powerful he is with Water Style jutsus. Sasuke launches a fireball at Kabuto in their fight, but Kabuto easily counters his jutsu and almost drowns him with Water Style: Giant Waterfall.

Even though Water Style is Fire Style's weakness, this is still an impressive feat since Sasuke is one of the best Fire Style users in the series. Additionally, Kabuto gains Suigetsu's liquefication ability after years of studying it with Orochimaru, making him difficult to land a hit against.

4 Mei Terumi Is One Of The Strongest Mizukages

Mei, the 5th mizukage heading to the Five Kage Summit in Naruto Shippuden

Mei's efforts in the Fourth Great Ninja War illustrate how strong she is with Water Style. Madara's Fire Style requires multiple Water Style users of the Shinobi Alliance's Fourth Division to counter it, yet Mei can repel his Fire Style all by herself.

Her Water Style: Water Pillar overwhelms Madara's Fire Style: Majestic Destroyer Flame and she subsequently engulfs him with Water Style: Water Dragon Missile. Mei also has impressive feats in the movie The Last: Naruto the Movie, showing that she can destroy meteorites with her Water Style jutsus.

3 Gengetsu Hozuki Can Use A Plethora Of Dangerous Water Style Jutsus

Gengetsu, the Second Mizukage, beats the Fourth Division of the Shinobi Alliance without breaking a sweat. Even though he instructs the ninjas of the Fourth Division on exactly how to beat him, none of them can lay a finger on Gengetsu. Landing a hit on him is tough, let alone sealing him.

Gaara incessantly tries to seal him, but Gengetsu can liquefy his body, which consists of water and oil, to escape. Gengetsu can also summon a Giant Clam, which produces mist to create a genjutsu. This genjutsu tricks the Fourth Division's ninjas, as they only attack illusions of Gengetsu and struggle to find him.

2 Tobirama Senju Can Overwhelm Opponents With Water Style

Second Hokage Tobirama Senju with two shadow clones surrounded by movement.

Orochimaru summons Tobirama in Edo Tensei form in his fight with Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage. People summoned in their Edo Tensei form are weakened versions of their living selves. Nevertheless, Tobirama still proves to be a formidable foe even against the strongest ninja of Konoha at this point, Hiruzen, to face in his Edo Tensei form.

For instance, he almost drowns Hiruzen using the Water Release: Water Fang Bullet. Tobirama also summons a massive volume of water without a source of water to easily negate Hiruzen's Fire Style jutsu. Tobirama is no joke when it comes to Water Release.

1 Kisame Hoshigaki Is The Tail-less Tailed Beast

Kisame Fused With Samehada in Naruto

Kisame is one of the strongest members of the Akatsuki due to his skill as a Water Style user. His Water Prison Shark Dance Technique traps opponents in a dome of water in which Kisame can swim and absorb their chakra by fusing with his sword, Samehada. Kisame can swim in this dome with little difficulty, as he grows gills and fins to swim more efficiently after fusing with Samehada.

He uses the Water Prison Shark Dance Technique to drown and absorb Killer Bee's chakra, leaving Killer Bee absolutely helpless. Additionally, Kisame's encounter with Team Guy also shows how powerful he is with Water Style because even as a weaker clone, he traps Neji, Lee, and Ten Ten in his Water Prison Technique, pressuring Might Guy to open the Sixth Gate.
