WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for Naomi Season 1, Episode 2, "Unidentified Flying Object," now available on the CW.

In Superman lore, despite the flurry of comics where Jor-El offered messages of hope to the son he sent to Earth, it's the movies from which most fans remember his words. In the '78 film, Marlon Brando's Jor-El gave Kal-El a talk about sticking up for humanity due to their capacity for good, and instructed him to believe in them no matter what -- an iconic moment in cinema. It's the Man of Steel's most inspirational moment and it's pretty fitting that Naomi paid homage to it given the title character's affinity for Kal.

Brando's speech was very powerful, as it reminded Kal to carry the strength of his people with him and honor the legacy of the House of El by taking Earth as his new home. In fact, Zack Snyder tried to copy it with Russell Crowe's Jor-El in Man of Steel, whose message for Kal was to be a beacon of hope and take mankind into the sun. But still, as good as that was, it wasn't as epic as the original.

Now, Naomi has a similar moment when Dee invites her to a bridge to train on the outskirts of Port Oswego. He confessed he actually worked with Superman before and that he was indeed a paragon of virtue, and not a fable as this universe wants her to believe.

He also spoke about the wonders of humanity, starting with the Egyptians building bridges, and mentioned their ability to do so much good, which is what encouraged aliens like him and Kal to help out. It was a fitting homage to Brando's Jor-El speaking about mankind's "capacity for good," which motivated Kal when he began his journey.

Dee cut the same kind of mentor figure, urging his protégé to step up and accept this greater role. Ironically, Naomi didn't know Dee was such a fan, as she adores Superman tremendously, to the point she has a fan site dedicated to proving he exists and scouring for evidence to show he's more than a fable.

Dee gave Naomi a Jor-El speech

However, Naomi was too afraid to jump off the bridge, which led to Dee showing her his metal wings. He didn't pressure her, but the speech eventually sunk in big time because when Naomi returned at the end of the episode, she was all in. After she unlocked her powers against Zumbado, she jumped off the bridge and flew off screen, leaving Dee smiling as he could tell he now has a Supergirl on his hands as she explores her newfound destiny.

Naomi airs on The CW on Tuesdays at 9 pm ET/PT.
