The following contains spoilers for Namor the Sub-Mariner #1, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

On a drowned world, Namor the Sub-Mariner's relationship with Atlantis has changed.

Written by Christopher Cantwell and illustrated by Pasqual Ferry, Namor the Sub-Mariner #1 introduces readers to an Earth where the sea level has risen to the point that very little land remains on the surface, causing Atlantis' rule to become absolute. The book is set in the future, most of the world's heroes are gone, and the remains of humanity live in an oxygenated settlement zone known as "Dry Man's Land," where resources are scarce and its inhabitants are suffering. Namor tries to help the zone obtain what it needs from Atlantis, but it has become more of a challenge -- being that he is no longer the kingdom's ruler.

The book reveals that in this future, Namor's cousin, Namorita, has taken the throne and now rules Atlantis. The Marvel hero now fills an advisory role, but he tries to speak for humanity's and help its survivors. Two heroes still living in Dry Man's Land are Captain America (Steve Rogers) and Luke Cage, and after Cage punches Namor across the face, the Atlantean screams, "I am your sole advocate! I'm the one who repeatedly embarrasses myself to my people on your behalf!" The attack against Namor leads to a brawl breaking out between the humans and Atlanteans present.

In the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Namor will be portrayed by actor Tenoch Huerta.
