Trust can be a fine line. Some people can be a little more protective of their personal lives while others accept just about anyone with open arms. While being trusting can be a good thing, being too trusting can be risky.

While many anime characters have reasons for having trust issues, there's surprisingly a lot who not only openly trust anyone, but are easily fooled by the most obvious of lies too.

10 Bam Put Too Much Trust In The Wrong Person (Tower Of God)

Bam from Tower of God

Plenty of people have their reasons for climbing the tower in Tower of God, but for Twenty-Fifth Bam, his only reason was to see Rachel again. During the course of this manhwa adaptation, Bam is shown to be a caring individual, seeing the good in those around him, even the ones he had only just met.

While Bam's empathy is admirable, it's also just as easily gotten him into trouble by caring too much for the wrong people. The most notable example is Rachel, someone who despised him and abandoned him, yet he trusted and believed in her above all others. At the end of the season, she betrayed him and left him for dead.

9 Gouda's Big Heart Lets Him Trust Others Easily (My Love Story!!)

Takeo Gouda from My Love Story!!

My Love Story!!'s Takeo Gouda may look large and mighty, but he's actually a big teddy bear with an even bigger heart. While Gouda may not always be the brightest, he's incredibly caring and trusts others super easily, even if they're not always the most deserving of it.

Gouda may be kind and friendly to just about everyone, but a lot of people would judge him by his appearance first. In particular, the girls he had crushes on wouldn't think very highly of him and would say some mean things about him behind his back.

8 Haru Thought Letting Others Use Him Was Friendship (My Little Monster)

Haru Yoshida may come off as a violent delinquent at first glance, beneath that, he's kind but pretty clueless and socially awkward. Haru may act aggressively and bone-headedly at times, but he cares a lot about the people around him, trusting them pretty quickly.

Haru's incredibly kind nature coupled with his social naïveté can make for a bad combo, making him more than a little gullible. Before meeting Shizuku, his friends were just using him for his money, something he seemed to have no problem with, believing that this was what friendship really was.

7 Yoshiko Is Oblivious To Pretty Much Everything (Aho-Girl)

Yoshiko Hanabatake is Aho-Girl's dimwitted protagonist, who is obsessed with bananas and is often bothering her childhood friend, Akuru. Pretty simply put, Yoshiko is a complete fool who's not only easily fooled, but also pretty much oblivious to the obvious things around her.

Yoshiko trusts people pretty much at face value, even if it's a blatant lie, especially Akuru despite him repeatedly telling her that he wants nothing to do with her. Her lack of common sense also fools herself into believing some pretty outlandish things too. Even children aren't as easily tricked as Yoshiko.

6 Kirby's Too Innocent To Be Suspicious (Kirby: Right Back At Ya!)

As Nintendo's little pink puffball, Kirby is a tough, cheery, and always hungry soul. While his age is never really known, the anime Kirby Right Back at Ya! likens him to being essentially a baby and his behavior often reflects that.

This little Star Warrior is too childish and innocent to really be suspicious of people, even a schemer like King Dedede who often uses Kirby's trusting nature to his advantage while trying to get rid of him. He often does this by luring Kirby into a trap or sending a monster to befriend him.

5 Nendou Trusts People Who Obviously Hate Him (The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K)

Riki Nedou, Saiki K

There's being naïve, and then there's being the sheer level of oblivious that Riki Nendou from The Disasterous Life of Saiki K is. Despite his delinquent-like appearance and slobbish behavior, Nendou's nice to just about everyone, though his low intelligence makes him oblivious to how those around him really feel about him.

Partly because of his kindness and partly because he's a fool, Nendou would trust anyone, even when those same people clearly hate him and treat him horribly. He's got a big heart and brain the size of a peanut.

4 Motoyasu Trusts Anyone Woman (The Rising Of The Shield Hero)

Motoyasu smiles in The Rising of the Shield Hero anime.

Motoyasu Kitamura is known as the Spear Hero, one of the Four Legendary Heroes from The Rising of the Shield Hero. While he may come off as friendly, he's also stubborn and insanely gullible. He's especially swayed by women and will believe anything they tell him at face value while ignoring any evidence if it upsets him.

All these traits make Motoyasu not only easily manipulated by two-faced individuals like Myne but also an incompetent hero who doesn't even notice that he's doing more harm than good.

3 Goku Has Given His Enemies Too Many Chances (Dragon Ball)

Frieza punches Goku in Dragon Ball Super.

On top of being able to shatter his limits to become one of the strongest fighters in the universe, Dragon Ball's Goku has a talent for making friends, even with some of his enemies. Sometimes these just extend into rivalries, while other times he's pretty quick to give chances to those who've done some pretty horrendous things.

To be fair, this has paid off for Goku more than once, as enemies like Piccolo or Vegeta have managed to turn over a new leaf, but other times he's too willing to trust in known backstabbers like Frieza who would still intend to kill him and everyone he cares about. Lots of people deserve a second chance, but Goku hands them out to villains a little too freely.

2 Luffy's Way Too Gullible For His Own Good (One Piece)

For pirates, one would have to keep a sharp wit about them, for the waters are a place for all sorts of treachery. For someone like One Piece's Monkey D. Luffy, that never really crosses his mind. Luffy might be tough in a fight and the Straw Hat Pirates' captain, but he's not exactly the brightest of his crew.

Luffy's pretty easy to trick, even sloppy disguises and flimsy lies are enough to do it. Luffy's really only got adventure and food on his mind at all times, but he could really do with being a little more aware of others.

1 Ash Has Been Falling For The Same Tricks For Years (Pokémon)

Ash Ketchum is the Pokémon anime's iconic trainer, who's become pretty strong in his own right over the years. However, his credulity still needs a lot of work. While Ash is often ready to make new friends with just about any human or Pokémon, his lack of common sense and gullible nature make him easy to fool, especially by Team Rocket.

Despite hounding Ash across multiple regions, Ash falls for Team Rocket's disguises, traps, and schemes over and over again when by this point he should really be catching on.
