Joe Manganiello's approaching debut on Mythic Quest has fans wondering how the actor's in-show personality will mesh, or mess, with the eccentric characters.

Manganiello's upcoming role was discussed in EW's Fall TV Preview. The Mythic Quest feature centered around the plights awaiting the new company created by Ian Grimm (Rob McElhenney) and Poppy Li (Charlotte Nicdao) at the end of the Apple TV+ series' second season, and how Manganiello's self-insert folds into the mix of it all. "How can you improve upon perfection?" joked the series' executive producer Megan Ganz. ""This season, we watch David try to woo Joe, hoping he'll star in the upcoming Mythic Quest movie. Joe is a big 'get' for our characters, and for the show itself! He was amazing to work with and we had a lot of fun playing with his Hollywood beefcake image."

Joe Manganiello's Quest

The Mythic Quest arc involving Manganiello will see in-show executive producer David Brittlesbee (David Hornsby) attempting to recruit the superstar as the lead in the Mythic Quest movie. Unfortunately, that leads to greater tensions with the former creative director, Grimm. On the group dynamic, Ganz noted, "As you might imagine, Ian is not too thrilled to share the spotlight with another, bigger beefcake. And poor David ends up stuck in the middle!"

The feature also touched on the trouble brewing outside the titular game's office as well. Having quit and leaving Brittlesbee all on his own, Li and Grimm create their own company, GrimPop, to pursue Li's attempted expansion in Season 2 as a fully realized game. Ganz expanded on the issues seen in Mythic Quest's third season trailer, stating, "Ian also designed GrimPop to look like a spaceship, which he loves and Poppy hates. The office is extremely minimalist, so she can never find an electrical outlet or a bathroom when she needs one."

This gives some insight on what the former decision-makers at Mythic Quest are up to, but the end of the second season left many supporting characters heading in different directions. Rachel (Ashly Burch) elected to attend Berkeley to take the first step toward her dream career, Dana (Imani Hakim) began taking programming classes to perfect her digital goat and its game and Brad (Danny Pudi) was walked out of the building in a public arrest for insider trading. A SDCC Mythic Quest interview with actors Burch, Hakim, Nicdao, Pudi, Hornsby and Jo's Jessie Ennis did confirm that there would be some fallout to the characters' arcs following the shakeup of Season 2.

Mythic Quest's third season will premiere in November exclusively on Apple TV+. Seasons 1 and 2 of the show can be streamed now.
