Here are the DC solicits for July, and here are my Top Ten covers for the month!

10. It's yet another beautiful drawing by Skottie Young, I just have some question about having the last issue's cover be set AFTER Dorothy returns from Oz.

But whatever, that's just nit-picking - it's a great cover.

9. Two months, two different Wolverine First Class artists, and yet Cam Stewart follows up David Williams' effort with a neat cover, as well.

Kitty with an eye-patch. Classic.

8. It amazes me how much personality Jae Lee is able to give all the Dark X-Men on this cover.

Jae Lee has returned to doing Marvel superhero covers in a big way - his work adds such a high degree of class to some pretty cheesy covers (Mister Negative having covers by Jae freakin' Lee?!? It's almost as bizarre as Tommy Lee freakin' Edwards drawing Grim Reaper fighting Wonder Man!).

7. I know they're just animals, but Niko Henrichon does a marvelous job with the characterization on the facial expressions of the animals, particularly the cat.

6. I'm always impressed by Alex Ross when he mixes up his cover designs - he can really come up with some clever arrangements sometimes.

I dunno if the red shading really helps the cover or not, but it's still a good cover.

MID-WAY POINT, SO I CAN MAKE FUN OF ONE COVER!!

AUGH!! I CANNOT DECIDE WHICH ONE TO MAKE FUN OF!!!!

I really want to say, "Wow, Gambit, Rogue and Danger - all this team needs to be the Flimsy Four is to have Miss Sinister join them!"

But how can I turn down the chance to be disappointed in the creepiness of Marvel Divas?!!?

HOW DO I MAKE SUCH A DIFFICULT DECISION?!?!?

5. Karl Kerschl does Henrichon one better with the facial work on the Pet Avengers on this cover.

4. Sean Phillips milks all the drama and characterization he can out of this Incognito cover.

You gotta love the effect of taking a domino mask off of a blood-soaked face.

3. You'd be hard pressed to find a more formidable looking Athena than the one Dennis Calero draws on this Trojan War cover.

Quite bad-ass.

2. I continue to love Jason Pearson's amusing and well-constructed (and well drawn) Deadpool covers.

I'm particularly impressed with the way he actually manages to show Deadpool smiling!

1. A really striking cover by Skottie Young - the use of the negative space, combined with the disparate items in the air, give the cover a catchy sort of "pop" to the imagery.

And, of course, there's always the cool character design work of Skottie Young. He's awesome.
