My Life as a Villainess is one of the few anime that features such a lovable cast in a harem. The main character is reincarnated into the world of otome game Fortune Lover after being killed. Instead of becoming the hero, though, she turns into Katarina, the game's villain. Katarina knows that most of the game routes lead to her death and sets out to try to change her fate, by learning to farm and generally just trying to be a good person. This leads to hilarious situations and pretty much everyone she interacts with falling in love with her, sadly Katarina is totally clueless. Below are a few things that were changed from the light novels in the anime.

10 Same: The Katarina Council

The Katarina Council is an important part of the anime and how Katarina tries to avoid doom. The council is made up of several chibi versions of the characters that argue back and forth and go over the currents events unfolding in the show.

The council is a huge source of comedy in the show as they mostly show how badly Katarina is overreacting to everything, they even have some fan-favorite quotes that are completely ridiculous.

9 Changed: Harsher Parents

While the relationship with her original parents is briefly touched on in the anime, the novel shows it was much crueler. One of the last things said to Katarina before she was reincarnated was that she was an idiot, which did seem to bother Katarina in her previous life.

Her original parents didn't approve of her otaku lifestyle and looked down on her for "wasting her time" playing otome games. This is why the only person she seemed to be attached to was her best friend a fellow otaku.

8 Same: The Boys Personalities

While the wording for the boy's personalities was changed around a bit, they are true to their novel counterparts. Each of the four bachelors act just like their novel versions, and many of the lines they use are taken straight from the book.

This is a nice touch as many light novel adaptions will change the personality of the characters to better fit the anime. It's especially fun to see the characters personalities come out as they fight over Katarina.

7 Changed: She Was Depressed

While the anime made it apparent that Katarina wasn't happy with her reincarnation, the novel states that she was depressed at first. The novel notes that she is a seventeen-year-old girl trapped in a child's body, and the fact she is engaged to a prince is far from ok in her head.

Katarina is thankful she got her memories back, but the whole situation is a huge mental burden. It's a bit surprising that she didn't just choose to completely shut down.

6 Same: Katarina's Green Thumb

One of the most notable things about Katarina is that she loved to garden. She loved to garden so much that in both the novel and anime, she got permission to make a garden on the school campus, which she loved to work in daily.

Both versions shine a light on Katarina's weird hobby and just how good she is at growing plants. She is even happy to share her harvest when her garden actually produces food in the series.

5 Changed: Keiths Treatment

Keith doesn't just pop up in the novel as he does in an anime; there is a huge rift caused at first when he appears. Katarina's mom has a huge fight in front of the children with her dad, as she truly believes that Keith is the product of an affair.

She even states that she would take Katarina and leave the house for good before finally calming down. This is the original reason why Katarina's mother was so cold to Keith.

4 Same: Katarina's Harem

Katarina is still the center of attention in the novels and managers to make literally everyone around her fall in love with her. Everyone from the four male stars of Fortune Lover to Maria, who starts to fall head over heels for Katarina and her airheaded nature.

Katarina doesn't seem to be falling for anyone, though, as she is just worried about staying alive. This leads many fans to debate who she will actually fall in love with in the series, if anyone at all.

3 Changed: Swordfighting and Magic

There is more talk of Katarina trying to learn sword fighting and magic in the novel. She even gets a teacher for both subjects, although it is stated it's a struggle at first for her to find a magic teacher as they are in limited supply even for nobles.

The novel even states that her sword fighting skills are far above average. Despite the fact that Katarina isn't very smart, she is actually one of the physically strongest characters in the show.

2 Same: Katarina's Oblivious

Katarina is not the greatest at social cues and remains completely oblivious to the fact that literally, everyone is in love with her. It's so bad that she doesn't even seem to understand that her fiance has actually fallen in love with her over the years.

Katarina even confuses actual confessions by the rest of the cast as just being friendly words. Katarina even goes through a few rough spots where she believes everyone may end up hating her anyways.

1 Changed: The Interludes

One huge thing that is missing from the anime is the interludes that tell the story from the perspective of the rest of the cast. While this does go over some events that have already occurred, these interlude chapters give a lot of depth to characters like Maria and let you know just what they are thinking.

Many fans who are lucky enough to read Japanese are hoping that OVAs of these chapters will be made later on. These chapters also help to prove that Katarina may be the most oblivious anime character ever.
