My Hero Academia is a series full of fights and ambition. Our main character, Izuku Midoriya (Deku), has gone up against several opponents during the relatively short time in the series. Deku has been hurt more than once in this time, partially thanks to the learning curve with his new quirk.
Along with many villains, Midoriya has also had to go up against several classmates during training and matches. That said, who could Deku beat in a fight? And who would beat Deku?
With that in mind, here are 5 classmates that Deku could win against and 5 he would certainly lose against. Keep in mind, only class 1A will be taken into account.
10 Can Defeat: Aoyama
No offense to Aoyama, but there's no doubt in our minds that Deku would win in this fight. Thanks to his belly bolts, Aoyama has the benefit of having some range. But he's not a durable character. Nor has he shown any willingness to take a hit in order to win a fight, which would be mighty useful in a fight against our Deku.
Aoyama might manage to get a hit or two on Deku, but the damage and pain he'd cause would be nothing compared to the suffering Deku's own quirk has inflicted upon its user. There is no doubt that Deku would be able to power through and kick Aoyama's butt.
9 Can't Defeat: Bakugo
In a fair fight, Bakugo will win against Deku. Twice now these two have faced each other, and there will undoubtedly be more duels in the future.
The truth of the matter is that someday Deku will likely be able to defeat Bakugo; however, he has a long way to go before reaching that point. It's likely the fights against Bakugo could be used as a way of monitoring Deku's progress.
8 Can Defeat: Kaminari
Kaminari may be a funny and charismatic character, but he doesn't stand a chance against Deku's blows. He might be able to give Deku a few good shots, but would that be enough?
If that wasn't enough, Kaminari has another disadvantage against Deku. The more he uses his quirk, the loopier he gets. Meanwhile, Deku has an incredible ability to analyze the situation and battle around him. This does not make for a good match-up for Kaminari.
7 Can't Defeat: Todoroki
We've seen Deku and Todoroki go up against each other once already, and it didn't go well for the former. He ended up getting knocked off the ring and unconscious. Yes, Deku did seem more focused on getting Todoroki to use all of his quirk's power but it doesn't change the fact that Todoroki won the fight.
Deku has gained more control over his new quirk since that fight. But it's unlikely enough to make a difference, especially since Todoroki has gotten stronger since that fight as well. In time, there's more than a good chance that Deku will surpass Todoroki.
6 Can Defeat: Ashido
Mina Ashido is surely one of the happier and more confident characters in the series. Unfortunately, that won't allow her to beat Deku. Yes, her acid is kind of terrifying, but that is hardly enough to counter Deku's hits.
Furthermore, she is unlikely to be able to stand up against more than one or two full hits from Deku. Could Ashido's acid damage him? Probably. But it wouldn't slow Midoriya down, nor block him at all. Therefore, there's no doubt that Deku would win any fight against her.
5 Can't Defeat: Tokoyami
Tokoyami is one of the most conflicted characters in the series. His quirk is seriously cool, but it comes at a high price. We've all see Tokoyami when he's lost control of his quirk, the Dark Shadow. In that form, there's no doubt that dark shadow/Tokoyami would defeat Deku.
Once again, this is one of those fights that Deku could potentially win, given time. When he gets closer to All Might's status, Deku will likely be able to handle a fight like this. Though even then, he'd probably have some trouble doing so.
4 Can Defeat: Kirishima
No offense to Kirishima, but we're pretty certain that Deku would win a fight against him. Though he'd probably feel guilty about doing so. Kirishima's quirk allows him to a heavy level of defense, as he gets denser as needed. But there's also a cap to that ability, a cap we've already seen in the manga.
Given that limitation, Deku could easily win the fight. It might be a bit closer than he'd like, but the Midoriya pushes his quirk, the more significant that gap will become.
3 Can't Defeat: Sato
All things considered, Rikido Sato and Deku have alarmingly similar quirks. Sato's quirk runs on sugar and thus is slightly limiting, but it's also a quirk he's had for his entire life. Therefore, he has had plenty of time to get to know its limitations.
Meanwhile, Deku has only recently gotten his quirk. While he's made heaps of progress in that time, he's still getting used to things, which would likely cost him in an all-out fight against Sato.
Now, once again, there's a solid chance this result would change in the future. Once Deku hits his ultimate goal, and becomes the symbol of peace, he'd surely be more than strong enough to take on Sato. But right now? Not so much.
2 Can Defeat: Sero
Sero has one of those quirks that is simultaneously interesting and underestimated. That being said, his quirk does not match up too well against Deku. While his tape may be strong enough to haul his weight around, and even tie up some enemies, it is hardly stronger than One For All, even at Deku's limited levels.
Sero would be very restricted in the way he could fight Deku, and that limitation would cost him in the long run. Sorry Sero, but this one goes to Deku.
1 Can't Defeat: Jiro
When it comes to Deku versus Jiro, the latter has an edge for a very specific reason. Deku's currently better at fighting at an extremely close range, while Jiro is a distance fighter. If she was able to get a few good hits off before he closes in, there's a solid chance that she could win the fight.
Jiro can't take a direct hit from Deku; however, if she played her cards right, she wouldn't have to. Her sound walls could keep Deku away long enough for Jiro to do some serious auditory damage. More than anything, this would be a battle of wits.
