My Hero Academia, one of the most popular superhero stories around the world right now, depicts a world where superpowered Quirks are commonplace. In this universe, talented adolescents can enroll at schools like U.A. and train to become superheroes. Some fan-favorite characters include super-fast class rep Tenya Iida and frog girl Tsuyu Asui. If these two were to fight a serious match, who would end up the victor?

Tenya Iida's Sprint To The Top

tenya Iida looks nervous in my hero academia

Tenya Iida is a melee-oriented hero whose Quirk enhances his physical abilities. This sets him apart from Shoto Todoroki, for example, who uses his powerful ice/fire Quirk to fight. Tenya can't coast on a powerful Quirk; he must train diligently to improve himself. Tenya is greatly motivated to become like his brother, who was also a runner hero, and that fuels his drive even when the odds are against him. He knows both muscles and his Quirk must both be exercised, and he never slacks off for a moment.

In combat, Tenya can activate his Quirk to run at extreme speed, and he can even use the Recipro Burst technique to add explosive power and speed to his kicks. This also grants Tenya a great deal of agility, and he relies mainly on his speed to avoid enemy attacks and stay in the fight. If he does take a blow, he has enough endurance to keep fighting thanks to his training. Tenya also has book smarts to complement his physical abilities; he is a diligent and brilliant student (just shy of the genius Momo Yaoyorozu), and he is insightful and resourceful in battle.

Tenya has a few shortcomings, such as his utter lack of ranged attacks. If he cannot get close to the target, then he cannot do a thing to harm them, and he is also prone to emotional outbursts. His brother Tensei nearly lost his life to Stain the hero killer, and it drove Tenya to reckless action that nearly got him killed too. If a fellow hero falls in battle, Tenya just might lose his cool head.

Tsuyu Asui: The Entire Frog Package

Tsuyu hanging on to the side of wall from My Hero Academia.

Tsuyu Asui, in broad strokes, is similar to her class rep. Her Quirk grants her many frog-based attributes, and she is a melee hero like Tenya. Tsuyu enjoys enhanced physical mobility from her Quirk, mostly in the form of her strong legs. She can leap quickly from place to place with springing motions, just like a frog, and she can deliver kicks the same way. Tsuyu lacks Tenya's explosive speed and power, but her agility is even greater since she doesn't have to run in a straight line to get moving. She can also climb up walls and other vertical surfaces with her sticky hands and feet, allowing her to maneuver all over the battlefield in unexpected ways. Tsuyu's speed, power and agility all get a boost when she is underwater. Even aquatic villains have to be wary of what she can do.

Tsuyu's frog powers include her tongue, which is long, strong and flexible. She can grab objects and swing around with that tongue, or grab enemies to restrain them or throw them around. If necessary, Tsuyu can also store objects in her stomach and bring them back up at will. As for drawbacks, Tsuyu has limited hitting power and strength, and cold and dryness are highly harmful to her. Aside from her tongue, she lacks ranged attacks, and if she can't access water, she is fighting at partial strength.

The Duel: Runner Vs Frog

Tenya Iida has advantages in endurance, explosive speed and kicking, while Tsuyu has better agility and can use her tongue as an extra limb. Iida may try to take Tsuyu down quick, but she might evade his initial blows, and that means Iida would have to adjust. He can't afford to wear himself down too quickly fighting an agile opponent like Tsuyu, so he'll compromise and take on Tsuyu with regular martial arts. Then, when he finds an opportunity, he can fire up his leg engines and deliver a powerful kick to Tsuyu, and Tsuyu can't easily take a hit like that. Once she's hit, Tenya can strike her again, and at this point, Tsuyu must concede.
