In the thrilling world of My Hero Academia, we follow the adventures of Izuku Midoriya and his peers in Class 1-A. Together, they engage in fun, sometimes perilous adventures across Japan, sporadically thrust into the field where they have an opportunity to perform feats of heroism.

However, whether a matter of quirk or discipline, not all members of the group are equally capable. Some thrive where others fall short, driven to succeed by a singular goal ~ to become the greatest hero and everything that goes with it. We assess the strongest members of the class based on their demonstrated combat skills and weaknesses.

10 Tenya

Tenya iida angry

Tenya's "Jet" quirk is an innately useful tool. It grants him speed, helping him blitz through obstacles and close the distance between himself and his enemies. This puts him at a considerable advantage over members of the class that rely on projectiles to succeed, such as Mineta, Ashido, and Aoyama.

However, the quirk has issues which render it less impressive. He sometimes has difficulty making sharp turns, his jets can burn out if they are over exerted, and considering he has no durability or strength feats, his offensive capacity is limited.

9 Kaminari

Denki Kaminari charging his hand in My Hero Academia

Kaminar's electricity is a double edged sword. Wielding immense static power, he is able to defeat dozens of villains at once in a display of dazzling lightning (as seen against Shigaraki's first assault force).

However, doing so is equally hazardous to his nearby allies, as well as himself. After he has expended his energy, he is rendered vegetative, turning from asset to liability for the remainder of the fight. Without this limitation, he would have potential to be the strongest hero in the class, though because of it, his power is stymied.

8 Sato

Sato's "Sugar Rush" quirk is formidable. Activating it imbues him with an immense burst of strength, one contingent upon his sugar intake. During this time, he becomes a powerhouse, able to knock down dozens of Cementoss's walls as if they were cardboard.

Unfortunately, it renders him an imbecile once it has expired, completing depleting his ability. Nonetheless, he is able to use it for several minutes, and his power is not a liability to his allies, both qualities which make him a more respectable hero than his electric rival.

7 Uraraka

Uraraka's quirk is as useful as she feels merciful. With just one touch, she can send any opponent floating into the sky, able to deactivate it at her leisure. This renders her a terrifying opponent to go up again, should she ever summon the full extent of her power. She has also applied it in teamwork situations, as seen when she saved Deku's life.

Unlike many other Class 1-A heroes, she also has formal martial training, able to flip many of her opponents on their tailbones. This bolsters an already impressive hero and makes her viable against those who would fare better against her "Zero Gravity" quirk, such as Hawks.

6 Sero

Hanta Sero using tape quirk (My Hero Academia).

Sero's tape gives him many advantages that may not immediately seem evident. He is able to swing at great lengths, rapidly propel himself in any direction, and even bind his opponents' bodies in the blink of an eye ~ a tactic which was nearly successful against Shoto Todoroki.

His mobility and versatility allow him to set the fight on his terms, keeping out of Kaminari's electric range and clear of Sato's fists until both have exhausted themselves. He would also be able to avoid Tenya's speed, as the class representative cannot maintain an upward trajectory like Hanta does.

5 Kirishima

Kirishima happy

Kirishima has had many opportunities to demonstrate his strength, and he has seldom failed to deliver. His punches are on par with Sato's as seen through their fight against Cementoss and his arm wrestling with Tetsutetsu, and he is durable enough to withstand a full assault by a villain drugged up on Overhaul's quirk enhancer.

The only issue with Eijiro's quirk is that he can exhaust himself, becoming softened and vulnerable. However, unlike Sato or Kaminari, this does not have any meaningful negative side effects beyond simple fatigue.

4 Tokoyami

When used to its fullest extent, Tokoyami's "Dark Shadow" is nothing short of incredible. He is able to defeat seasoned villains that pro heroes struggle with ~ specifically, the deranged Moonfish.

This requires darkness to use at its fullest potential, and the blacker the room becomes, the harder it is for Tokoyami to control his own power. Additionally, he maintains a debilitating weakness against heat and light, a vulnerability sometimes used to reign him in when he gets too far past his limit.

3 Izuku Midoriya

Throughout the anime's progression, Izuku Midoriya's power has grown considerably. He has learned how to harness the tremendous might of One For All without breaking his body in the process, distributed his quirk to his legs, and even learned a wind projectile through calculated flicks of his fingers.

However, he is sometimes excessively sentimental, as seen in his fights against Todoroki and Bakugo. It resulted in his defeat at their hands, demonstrating that being the greatest hero is more than about simple combat prowess and tactic analyzation.

2 Todoroki

Todoroki's quirk affords him a variety of skills to bring to the battle. His fire is an excellent offensive utility, while his ice freezes dozens of opponents in their tracks.

The caliber of his power is incredible. In his performances at the Sports Festival, he was able to create a wall of ice so tremendous that it ~ along with the remains of a gigantic robot ~ blocked the path of the remaining participants. This would be displayed again during his fight against Izuku Midoriya, the collision of their battle creating drafts of wind that buffeted the audience and pleased his father.

1 Bakugo

Bakugo _ My Hero Academia

Bakugo is as inexorable as he is ruthless. Completely indifferent to the well being of his adversaries, he creates explosions large enough to blow up small street corners, demonstrated in his battle against Izuku Midoriya after accepting the truth about One For All.

Additionally, he is able to propel himself with his explosion quirk, combining the mobility of Sero with the firepower of Todoroki. This makes him one of hero society's most lethal developing weapons, rightfully earning his position as Class 1-A's strongest hero and the winner of the Sports Festival.
