One of the hottest shonen action series out there right now is My Hero Academia, which depicts a world wherein superpowered Quirks have become the norm. Some Quirks are stronger than others, and gifted students like Shoto Todoroki and Fumikage Tokoyami naturally rise to the top of their class at schools like U.A. They were practically born to fight.

In My Hero Academia, Shoto is a rival to Izuku Midoriya, being in awe of the power of One For All, while he keeps his classmates at arm's length. Fumikage Tokoyami is a bit of a loner too but he's open to cooperation, which could include taking part in a sparring match if Shoto asked him. But if they did throw down, how would their fight play out?

Shoto Todoroki's Skills & Powers

Shoto fails his exams on My Hero Academia

Shoto Todoroki is the son of Endeavor and that means he inherited his father's Hellflame Quirk and all of its power. But that is only half of the story. Shoto also inherited an ice Quirk from his mother Rei, and that is no coincidence. Endeavor wanted a child whose ice and fire halves would balance each other out, and the result is Shoto Todoroki. Shoto can avoid frostbite from his ice half and heat strike from his fire half by alternating his Quirk's two halves, giving him more battlefield endurance than even his powerful father. In later arcs of the story, Shoto gains even more power than ever, and he's determined to reach new heights.

Shoto's ice half is his preferred side since it reminds him of his beloved mother. And besides, ice is a highly effective type of magic for battle. Shoto can rapidly create an enormous amount of ice in battle, usually from his feet and hands, and the opponent may get trapped in the ice and rendered helpless before they can even make a move. In addition, Shoto can slide around the battlefield on streaks of ice, similar to how Mina slides around on streaks of her acid, giving him boosted mobility. Shoto can also impale his enemies on large icicles, though he's rarely seen doing that.

Up until the U.A. sports festival, Shoto abstained from using his fire half, so his coordination with his fire half is a bit off. However, Shoto is ready to catch up, and he can use his fire more effectively than ever, which as expected, is quite powerful. By the provisional hero license exam arc, Shoto was ready and willing to use fire at a moment's notice during battle, such as when he combo'd with Inasa Yoarashi to overwhelm Gang Orca with dry, hot wind.

Fumikage Tokoyami's Skills & Powers

Like Shoto, Fumikage was born with a powerful Quirk, and he relied heavily on it during battle. And like Shoto, Fumikage isn't terribly complacent; he knows his strength, but he's also ready to train and reach even greater heights of power. His Quirk is Dark Shadow, a solid, shadowy being that emerges from Fumikage's torso. Remarkably, this Quirk can think and speak for itself, meaning that it and Fumikage act as a team rather than just master and tool. While it's manifested, Dark Shadow can move freely, and with great speed and agility.

This Quirk can adeptly avoid enemy attacks while closing in to deliver devastating melee attacks, and Dark Shadow may also shield Fumikage from return fire. With an extra set of eyes on the battlefield, Fumikage is difficult to take by surprise. Dark Shadow can spot enemy attacks incoming, even if Fumikage doesn't see them (such as from behind).

Dark Shadow is stronger as the lighting levels go down and at night, this Quirk is at its strongest, though it's also more difficult to control this way. During the day, Dark Shadow is weaker but very easy to control, and in the twilight, Dark Shadow has moderate strength. After a point, Fumikage learned that he can cloak himself with Dark Shadow for added strength, and he once interned with the Pro Hero Hawks to put on some muscle and learn new techniques. Now, he's ready for anything -- including taking on Shoto.

Shoto and Fumikage each respect the other's power, so they would fight fiercely once the match begins. Shoto, as usual, would create ice to try and trap his enemy, and Fumikage, who would expect that, would send out Dark Shadow to smash the ice apart while trying to approach Shoto himself. Shoto could continue to make ice, but Dark Shadow would keep going all out to break it. By then, Dark Shadow would be within range of its opponent, but Shoto could slide away at the last moment on a streak of ice, leaving Dark Shadow to strike the ground where Shoto was standing.

Back and forth they'd go, with Dark Shadow tiring but keeping pace with Shoto until Shoto realizes that he needs his full power for this battle. This is when he'd start using the fire half, and with his blazing assaults, he'd fill the battlefield with heat and light -- and that would weak Dark Shadow a great deal. Dark Shadow would have to retreat into Fumikage's body, and this would be Shoto's chance. Switching back to ice, he'd slide right over to Fumikage and trap his opponent in a huge ice formation before Dark Shadow can recover and attack again. Fumikage would no choice but to surrender.
