While the students of Class 1-A may be the primary focus of My Hero Academia, they have far to go before they can keep the peace themselves. The current guardians of Japan are the pro heroes, seasoned fighters trained to protect the innocent and uphold the law.

However, some professionals are over hyped, while others do not garner the recognition they deserve for their skills and abilities. It's time to examine five heroes that are underrated and five that are held in too high regard.

10 Overrated - The Wild, Wild Pussycats

wild wild pussycats

The Wild Pussycats were responsible for training Midoriya and his friends during their stay at the forest camp. They were held in high esteem by their hero constituents, hence the absence of All Might and the other school heroes which may have been of assistance during the attack.

Not only were they ultimately defeated (by definition, as the League was able to fulfill the goal it set out to accomplish), Ragdoll would later have her quirk taken by All For One. This made him considerably stronger, compounding an already grave threat which only All Might could counter ~ temporarily.

9 Underrated - Kamui Woods

kamui woods

The extent of Kamui Woods's quirk is breathtaking. During the rescue operation for Bakugo, he was able to restrain all of his opponents by himself without repercussion. This included Dabi and his flame quirk, as well as Shigaraki, able to kill a hero with a single touch.

Additionally, Woods may also use his power in an offensive capacity, as demonstrated through his teamwork with Mt. Lady. While he may be the 8th ranked hero, his accolades have entailed that he deserves to be higher still.

8 Overrated - Principal Nezu

Principal's Nezu quirk is allegedly his intelligence, explaining how he can speak despite being an animal. His calculation skills were made known during his test against Kaminari and Ashido, tactically using a large crane to bring down the rubble around them and trapping them inside.

However, it has never shown to be useful in regards to the students' safety, resulting in numerous situations of grave peril. An example includes how Gentle Criminal was able to bypass school grounds despite the "precautions" he took against intruders, or how he stopped Toshinori from saving the students threatened by Shigaraki and his Nomu. For one with an intelligence quirk, Nezu often finds himself outsmarted.

7 Underrated - Snipe

Snipe mha

Snipe's "Homing" quirk may allow him to control the trajectory of his bullets, though they are inevitably only as potent as the gun firing it. This puts his destructive potential on par with many police or military officials, as it renders him unable to defeat more durable opponents like Muscular, High-End, or Gigantomachia.

However, he knows exactly where he is needed, making his targets as precisely and deliberately as his shots. Through a synthesis of this combat knowledge, he is able to remain on par with Japan's greatest heroes despite his palpable absence of stopping power.

6 Overrated - Mt. Lady

Mt. lady nervous

Despite her awe inspiring size and strength capability, Mt. Lady is not as useful for combat as her stature and early victory in the series entails. She was almost immediately taken out at the battle of Kamino after taking a glancing blow in the fray.

She still has worth; the heroine is able to shield large numbers of civilians from the backlash of destructive attacks (as seen with All Might smashing the sludge villain), as well as preventing falling debris from crushing others. However, the rank she'd assign herself is undeserved given her previously mentioned deficiencies.

5 Underrated - Thirteen

Thirteen is profoundly underrated for what she is capable of. While technically designated as a rescue hero, her "Black Hole" quirk is one of the few abilities capable of wrangling elusive villains like Kurogiri or the sludge monster. Additionally, it has raw, destructive power in a dire situation.

Because she fulfills a rare niche that heroes which rely on raw power like Endeavor or All Might cannot fulfill, it makes her a crucial ally on any hero team she would wish to join.

4 Overrated - Best Jeanist

best jeanist pointing challenging

The third highest ranking member of hero society, Best Jeanist's quirks are uninspiring, given his station. He is able to manipulate threads of fabric, using them as weapons, shields, and restraints against his enemies.

Not only is this a useless quirk against naked opponents like the Nomu and Teruo Hazukashi, it isn't particularly viable against enemies with strong quirks. Examples include the blade villain Kirishima fought and Kurogiri. Jeanist's nearly instant defeat by the hand of All For One demonstrate that despite his talent with his threads, his quirk cannot contend with the worst of Japan's underworld.

3 Underrated - Midnight

Midnight from MHA

Midnight's quirk is among the most powerful of the teacher's, with the only detriment being that its radius affects allies as much as it does her opponents. She is able to produce a lavender mist, putting enemies to sleep. This is an extremely useful utility against brutal opponents with a high capacity for abuse like Muscular.

However, she does not engage in hero work as much as her powers should entail, as demonstrated through her obsession with vanity. Instead, she was the announcer for the Sports Festival and helped Class 1-A develop their hero pseudonyms and costumes. This limits her potential.

2 Overrated - Wash

Wash's power allows them to produce soapy suds from their head, useful in rescuing civilians from impending harm. However, everything else in this hero's arsenal falls short; they have poor combat ability and they do not inspire citizens like Endeavor or Kamui might.

Additionally, Hawks is able to do what Wash can, though more efficiently. Because of these overwhelmingly glaring flaws, it's difficult to justify Wash's position as one of the top ten heroes in Japan.

1 Underrated - Nighteye

a close up of nighteye from mha

Sir Nighteye may have the respect of Toshinori, though he isn't as discussed in hero society as one might assume for a man of his talent. He lives a quiet life in his agency alongside his apprentice, haunted by the vision he assumed to be inevitable.

Nighteye's quirk allows him to see a few seconds into the future, rendering him an intelligent and tactical fighter. It may not be enough to defeat opponents that can cause significant damage in short time (like Overhaul), but it does enable him to anticipate danger and save innocent lives.
