Overhaul was the leader of My Hero Academia's Yakuza organization and one of the strongest criminals Deku has faced so far. His quirk allows him to remake anything on a molecular level, bestowing the villain an ability to take (and under specific conditions, give) life with a single touch.

Like many of the series' nuanced antagonists, Overhaul is defined through his numerous strengths and weaknesses. By identifying them, we can better discern whether or not he was a worthy rival for Shigaraki and if he could have defeated Japan's heroes under better circumstances.

10 STRENGTH: Overhaul's Ruthless Gave Him An Advantage Even Over His Own Adoptive Father

Overhaul's ruthlessness was a necessity in becoming one of Japan's greatest criminal kingpins. When the young villain's adoptive father frowned upon his brutal and dishonorable methods, he hospitalized him so that he could make full use of Eri's mysterious quirk.

He was equally merciless toward Eri herself, willing to torture her so that he could extract a quirk negating (or bestowing) drug. Although his actions are monstrous, they're essential to the Yakuza when striving for their desired goals and attempting to return to relevance.

9 WEAKNESS: Overhaul's Germaphobia Is One Of His Most Obvious Blindspots

One of Overhaul's most prevalent weaknesses is his extreme germaphobia. He doesn't wear a mask to avoid a pandemic -- instead, it's only to ensure that dirt doesn't make contact with his skin.

Bizarrely enough, his philosophy of cleanliness extends toward his outlook on the nature of society and quirks in general. He views them as genetic impurities despite the fact that he has one of the series' most flagrantly overpowered abilities. It was something ironic that Shigaraki pointed out after defeating Snatch and confronting him face to face for the second time.

8 STRENGTH: Overhaul Can Fully Heal Himself With A Single Touch

Overhaul versus Deku in My Hero Academia.

Perhaps Overhaul's most frighteningly powerful ability is that he can heal any damage he incurs with a single touch. This makes him an extremely resilient foe who must be knocked out with a single punch in order to be efficiently defeated.

However, his "healing" properties extend even further. Should any of his henchmen be nearby, he can assimilate their bodies into his own to gain their mass and master their quirks. Bizarrely, the goons can be restored to normal afterward and in perfect condition.

7 WEAKNESS: Overhaul's Reflexes & Hand-To-Hand Skills Are Abysmal

Anime My Hero Academia Mirio Punches Overhaul

Overhaul is extremely lacking when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. This was proven in his fight against Mirio, where Overhaul failed to land a single hit against the Big Three hero despite the fact that his opponent had lost his quirk.

It was demonstrated again during the battle with Deku, where One For All's full power provided a target too fast for the Yakuza boss to touch despite the considerable augmentations that he had been given. Overhaul's only notable feat of competence in brawling was against Rappa, a relatively slow and straightforward opponent.

6 STRENGTH: Overhaul Has Enormous Offensive Potential

Overhaul uses his quirk and creates spikes MHA

Overhaul has one of the strongest offensive quirks in the series. Not only is he able to kill his opponents with a single touch at close quarters (rendering him a deadly albeit clumsy melee fighter), but he is also able to transform the ground around him into jagged spikes.

Using this technique, he injured Mirio and inflicted grievous wounds against Sir Nighteye that would later claim his life. The quantity of spikes Overhaul is able to summon in a short amount of time is frightening.

5 WEAKNESS: Overhaul Has Low Defensive Abilities

In addition to having poor reflexes, Overhaul's base defenses are pathetic. He was nearly beaten into unconsciousness by Mirio with a few standard blows, indicating how fragile the Yakuza boss actually is. Even his massive flesh golem was easily dealt with by Deku in the subsequent fight.

Under ordinary circumstances, his low defense is offset by an ability to heal from any injury instantly. However, now that Shigaraki has destroyed his hands, it will be extremely difficult for Overhaul to adapt and remain a relevant fighter in the ongoing narrative.

4 STRENGTH: Overhaul Has High Charisma & Leadership Abilities

Kirishma vs. Rappa

Overhaul proved to be a strong tactician based on how he delegated his minions across the Yakuza compound. Rikiya was stationed on the upper level where he'd likely encounter the greatest number of enemies, while Rappa and Hekiji lurked in wait below as a nigh-unstoppable tag-team.

He even had the foresight to bring Shin with him so that he could use his truth-seeking abilities to demoralize the enemy and force Eri to state how she really felt about the situation. For the limited resources he had, Overhaul fended off Japan's heroes remarkably well.

3 WEAKNESS: Overhaul's Aggression Was Ultimately His Downfall

MHA League of Villains Overhaul

Although Overhaul's ruthlessness gave him the drive he needed to succeed, he was too ambitious in a short amount of time. Immediately after All For One's imprisonment, he sought to absorb the League of Villains into his organization and made an enemy out of Tomura Shigaraki.

This was all while Japan's heroes were taking an increasingly strong interest in him. If Overhaul had been more patient with his goals and diplomatic in his approach to potential allies, he would have been a force to be reckoned with.

2 STRENGTH: Overhaul Was An Inventive Genius

Overhaul with antidote

Overhaul's operations were only possible due to his inherent scientific genius. Using Eri's quirk, he mastered both a power-destroying and reactivating bullet with the intention of distributing it to his underlings for immediate use.

It would come in handy in the Yakuza's battles against Suneater and Lemillion, where the former's quirk would be temporarily destroyed and the latter faced much more long-term repercussions. If Overhaul had more time to perfect his craft, it's difficult to anticipate the full extent of what he could accomplish.

1 WEAKNESS: Overhaul's Plan Clashes With His Own Philosophy

Overhaul's ultimate scheme was to create quirk-destroying and bestowing bullets to sell at excessively high prices for Japan's heroes and villains alike. In theory, this would give his organization the financial capital it needed to become relevant again on a national stage.

However, it directly conflicts with his mantra that quirks are unnatural and should be eliminated. If the villain's ideology was more consistent, he would either simply sell the quirk erasing bullets or stop pretending as if the nature of supernatural abilities is a curse upon the human race.
