If you're looking to get into Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia or if you're a casual fan, you might not know everything theres is to know about the huge cast of characters that make up the series. Among the many students at UA Academy, the story mainly focuses on Class 1-A, and within that class, a handful of students usually get the spotlight.

One of those students is Momo Yaoyorozu, the top student in the class and a character who is surrounded by controversy amongst the fandom. If you want to know all there is about the character, we've got you covered.

POWERS

Momo using her Quirk

Let's start with the character's power. Yaoyorozu's Quirk is known as Creation and it allows her to create pretty much any inorganic item she can think of, as long as she knows the chemical makeup of it. To help with this part of her power, Momo keeps a chemistry book on her costume at all times, allowing her to look up whatever she needs to make an item.

Some examples of things that Yaoyorozu has created with her Quick are simple weapons (like bo staffs, swords, shields, etc.), gas masks, a cannon, a catapult and a tracking device, which was used to help heroes find a villain's lair. Momo's Quirk works by converting excess lipids in her body into her creations, which must manifest through her exposed skin, like her arms, torso, legs, etc.

PERSONALITY

Yaoyorozu in My Hero Academia.

Momo Yaoyorozu's personality makes her a natural leader and a great hero candidate, her heroic traits likely serving as part of the reason she got into UA by recommendation. She is calm and level-headed in dangerous situations, focusing on the task at hand with quick thinking and genius-level tactical skills.

Additionally, Momo is very honest and trusting, noble traits that have also gotten her in trouble quite a bit; her honesty coming off as blunt and harsh at times and her trust in her classmates often being betrayed by the likes of Mineta Minoru. This isn't her only fault, as, despite usually remaining calm in a fight, she is sometimes prone to panic, especially if her confidence has been broken, as evidenced in her and Shoto Todoroki's fight with Shota Aizawa, where her recent Sports Festival loss made her doubt her skills.

PURPOSE

Yaoyorozu and Todoroki's exam reveals one of the many story purposes that the character has served. Namely, this involves her doubt in her own skills, which eventually lead her to realize that everyone has different strengths, and that some can compliment each other. This realization was important both for Momo and for the story as a whole, since it communicated that success often comes with the combined efforts of a team.

Aside from this thematic contribution to the series, Momo has also served the role as leader throughout a number of situations, taking charge at USJ, helping to tutor her classmate and quickly strategizing during the provisional license exam, just to name a few. On top of this, Momo's quick thinking during the training camp arc allowed for heroes and law enforcement to locate the League of Villains' secret lair.

CONTROVERSY

While Momo Yaoyorozu is a very well-written, strong, multi-dimensional character with significant arcs, there is one thing that has bothered fans of the series about her: her powers, costume and the connection between them. As you can see in this article's images, Momo's costume is rather revealing, showing much of her chest and leaving her arms and legs completely exposed. The "reason" for this is that her powers require exposed skin to create things from.

While has been viewed by many fans as a "creative" power set, it also comes of as lewd, seeing as the character is a minor and that we've seen her rip her costume before, showing it's not as useful as it seems. Also, many fans believe an exposed back crop-top/shorts combination would be much better and less revealing, or even adding a zipper to the costume, as was done in the live action play. She is also not the only female hero whose power relies on exposed skin, as pro-hero Midnight also has a similar costume/Quirk connection.
