My Hero Academia is one of the biggest anime to come out in the past decade. There are plenty of shonen anime series that run for years and claim a big audience, but My Hero Academia is able to effectively combine the genre’s tropes with superhero staples to create something that feels both familiar as well as fresh.

8 Mirio Versus Class 1-A

U.A.'s Big Three

It’s important for a character to make a strong first impression and there are so many in My Hero Academia that some definitely get neglected. Mirio feels quite important when he enters the series through a presentation to the students of Class 1-A. Mirio, as well as the rest of The Big Three – Nejire and Tamaki – talk to the class about the importance of the work studies program and how it’s been an important influence on them. Mirio decides to prove their point in a more active way and he challenges the entirety of the class to take him on in battle.

7 Who Wins: Mirio Humbles The Heroes-In-Training

Anime My Hero Academia Mirio Fights Class 1-A

Izuku Midoriya and the rest of Class 1-A are quite cocky against Mirio’s proposition, but it’s an opportunity that quickly leaves them all humbled. At this point Class 1-A has already improved a lot, but Mirio demonstrates the importance of a strong strategy. He debuts his Peremation Quirk in an impressive way and systematically takes out all of the long-distance fighters first, like Fumikage, Yuga, and Tsuyu. Mirio then progresses to the powerful close-range fighters. Izuku does a decent job, but Mirio is able to consistently surprise them and it’s not long before he’s defeated Izuku, Tenya, Ochaco, and the rest of the class.

6 Mirio Versus Shin And Deidoro Of The Eight Bullets

Anime My Hero Academia Mirio Battle Ready For Shin And Deidoro

One of Mirio’s major goals throughout My Hero Academia is the protection of Eri and he is still hard on himself for technically “letting her go'' the first time he encountered her and Kai Chisaki. Mirio’s mission to reclaim Eri brings him up against two of Overhaul’s grunts from the Shie Hassaikai assassin group.

Deidoro Sakaki and Shin Nemoto launch an impressive tag-team attack on Mirio to take him out before he can reach Overhaul. The battle is an especially interesting look into how Quirks work and the right way to use them against each other since everyone has underestimated each other’s abilities here.

5 Who Wins: Mirio Shows Off His Super Move And Moves Onto Bigger Targets

Anime My Hero Academia Mirio Defeats Shin And Deidoro

Deidoro immediately gets the advantage over Mirio due to his Inebriation Quirk, which allows him to make Mirio feel like he’s drunk. This throws off the hero and his impulses are less precise, but he’s still able to hold his own. It’s at this point that Shin Nemoto fires bullets at Miro, which he’s able to avoid through Permeation, but he’s still subjected to Shin’s Quirk, bringing out his insecurities.

This mental manipulation still isn’t enough and Mirio’s determination to win overpowers them both. Mirio unleashes his super move, Phantom Menace, and permeates and ricochets through tight quarters to bombard Deidoro and Shin with attacks until they’re out of the picture.

4 Miro Versus Overhaul And Chronostasis

Anime My Hero Academia Mirio Attacks Overhaul Chronostasis Punch

After Mirio takes out Deidoro and Shin, he moves onto his real target, Overhaul and Chronostasis, since they’re the ones who are in possession of Eri. All of Mirio’s work here is to save Eri, which makes Overhaul’s actions so much more vile. He shares the twisted perception of Eri that he’s instilled into her.

Overhaul also reveals that Eri isn’t actually his daughter, but just another tool of manipulation. He even shares dark information over how he’s broken and reassembled Eri in the past through the use of his Quirk. It all becomes too much for Mirio to bear and he lashes out to attack.

3 Who Wins: Mirio Stands His Ground, But With No Quirk Overhaul Takes Control

Anime My Hero Academia Mirio Punches Overhaul

Mirio’s battle against Overhaul and Chronostasis is arguably the hero’s most iconic battle and it changes him in a fundamental way. Mirio is fueled by an incredible rage that’s entirely because of Overhaul’s negligence towards Eri. Miro impressively dominates against Overhaul, but Chronostasis eventually hits Mirio with a Quirk-Erasing Bullet.

Despite this setback, Mirio remains the symbol of heroism and he continues to fight and defend Eri. Thankfully, Midoriya, Aizawa, and Nighteye show up and take over. Mirio may not technically win, but his work here is instrumental in Midoriya and Eri’s defeat of Overhaul.

One of the most dangerous operations the heroes have attempted in My Hero Academia revolves around the simultaneous raids that the pro heroes launch on the Paranormal Liberation Front headquarters and the Jaku Hospital in a bid to finally take out Tomura Shigaraki, who grows increasingly stronger with All For One’s help. Mirio is involved with the attack on the hospital and while he’s not initially a part of the raid, his appearance comes at a crucial point. He’s able to bring a sizable entourage with him to take on the many enemies that they now face.

Mirio and the group do swift work against the Nomus and Mirio also beats Mr. Compress and nearly takes out Spinner. However, Shigaraki is just too powerful through All For One’s influence. He doesn’t just escape, he leaves Mirio and company in a shattered place. The villains gain the lead.
