In the world of Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia, most people are born with superpowered quirks, with some being more powerful than others. The strongest quirks can be honed and perfected for a hero, and UA is Japan's top school for hero students. In Hero class 1-A, everyone is learning to fight, and two promising students are Mina Ashido and Eijiro Kirishima.

Neither of them is a prodigy like Shoto and Momo, nor do they have hard-hitting quirks like One For All or Explosion. But Mina and Eijiro are working hard to catch up, and both of them have had their moments of glory. In fact, they attended the same middle school, and have a bit of a history together (not a romantic one, though). Now, which of them promises to be the next big thing in class 1-A?

10 Mina: Ideal Quirk Style

Some quirks are not suitable for the life of a hero (or villain) at all, and the owners simply live ordinary lives while largely ignoring their quirk. This discourages them from trying to enroll at schools like UA or Shiketsu. Then there's Mina's acid quirk.

It is clear at a glance that his quirk is great for fighting as a hero, and because of this, Mina doesn't have to waste any time trying to calibrate her quirk and figure it out. She can jump right into training, and make some quick progress with it.

9 Eijiro: Catching Up

By contrast, Eijiro was born with the Hardening quirk, and as a young boy, he couldn't stand his seemingly useless quirk. He accidentally cut himself the first time he hardened his skin, and he couldn't see how hard skin could do any good against villains.

But as we all know, he is in the top hero class at Japan's premiere hero class, so he did something right. Kirishima can't use ranged attacks or alter the properties of other objects, but he earned his place in class 1-A despite his quirk, and that merits some credit.

8 Mina: Dancer's Grace

Mina knows how to use her quirk, but there's more to it than just throwing handfuls of acid at things. She is also a skilled dancer, and she does this for fun, and taught her classmates how to do some great dance moves for the school festival.

This translates well into combat, too. Mina is well-coordinated, has good reflexes, and is pretty flexible, which allows her to dodge attacks with ease and launch her handfuls of acid from any angle, and with great accuracy. She sure knows how to move.

7 Eijiro: Sheer Passion

Is Eijiro crying? Yes... from being so moved! Mina is alaso an enthusiastic fighter, but Eijiro takes it to the next level. He was inspired by the hero Crimson Riot, who often spoke of the virtues of noble manliness. Eijiro would never forget this lesson.

In all the right ways, Eijiro is a man's man, positively burning with passion to be tough, cool, and confident despite the odds. This helped him practice with his seemingly lousy quirk and earn his place in hero class 1-A, and he will never sink into complacency.

6 Mina: Gliding Around

This is a combination of Mina's acid and her dancer's grace. She can run around and perform dance moves, but her mobility is enhanced further when she slides around on patches and streaks of her acid.

Mina's shoes have holes at the bottom, so her acid leaks right out and can coat any surface, allowing her to slid around as though on ice skates. She demonstrated this in her duel against Yuga Aoyama, and she proved a difficult target to hit.

5 Eijiro: Melee Power

Although Eijiro can't punch as hard as Rikido Sato or Izuku, he can still deliver a serious beating, since his quirk can act as a set of brass knuckles. His hard skin is largely defensive, but Eijiro isn't just a shield for his allies.

Instead, he can dive right into the thick of the action, using his hard skin to outlast his opponents and deliver some bone-shattering punches with those steely fists. He kept pace with the ultra-strong Rikido Sato during their test against Cementoss, pulverizing countless concrete walls bare-handed.

4 Mina: Restraint

It is not enough for a hero to just have great strength and courage. Heroes are required to have some control and precision in how they operate, so they can avoid collateral damage and avoid exhausting themselves with inefficient, blunt attacks.

Mina is a great example of discipline and restraint in combat, using just enough power to defeat her opponent and not tire herself. She glided around to evade Yuga Aoyama's navel laser, then dissolved his belt with a bit of acid and knocked him out with one punch.

3 Eijiro: Compassion

Season 4 proved to be a great time for Eijiro Kirishima to prove what he can do. He worked with the pro hero Fat Gum on the streets, and some villains started using quirk enhancement drugs and quirk erasure darts. Eijiro was soon caught in the crossfire.

But he didn't back down. With Takami out of action temporarily, Eijiro pursued a man into an alley and confronted his powered-up quirk. During that duel, Eijiro sympathized with the man, and his words started to get through to him. Even while on the job, Eijiro keeps his compassion front and center; he's not just a juggernaut.

2 Mina: Support And Offense

Quirks can be loosely categorized by combat role, where some (One For All, Sugar Rush, etc) are good for melee combat while others like Navel Laser, Creation, and Tape are better used as support quirks. Some quirks are poorly suited to dueling.

But Mina can have it both ways. She can duel by sliding around and evading an opponent's blows, then deliver acid to cripple her enemy. She can also fling this acid from a distance to damage an enemy, thus backing up an ally.

1 Eijiro: Endurance

This sums up everything else that has been said about Kirishima's combat style and quirk. True, dealing repeated blows will tire him out, like in his battle with Cementoss, but overall, he's good for outlasting opponents.

His hard skin allows him to survive all but the worst blows, and his melee style can't run out of "ammo". His incredible grit, courage, and faith in himself can augment all of this and keep him in the fight even longer, which is admirable for any hero-in-training like him.
