The world needs heroes to keep the streets safe, and in the world of My Hero Academia, there are plenty of colorful and powerful caped heroes to save the day. Some of them look like the classic image of heroes, like All Might or Gran Torino, while others have more creative and unique appearances or powers, such as Midnight or Best Jeanist (a hero based on denim threads).

How effective is Midnight as a hero, and as a teacher at UA? She may not crack the top 10, but she is a formidable and popular hero with a strong sense of responsibility, despite her goofy personality. The following are Midnight's five greatest assets, and five things she ought to work on improving.

10 Strength: Bloodless Combat

All pro heroes have a powerful quirk for combat or support roles, and Midnight's is called Somnambulist. With it, she can emit vapors from her skin, and anyone who inhales them falls asleep. It's most potent on boys and men in particular.

One positive consequence of that quirk is that Midnight can take down villains without injuring them or even causing any collateral damage, as opposed to All Might or Endeavor. Not every fight needs to be a titanic clash that shakes the earth. Gentle is often better.

9 Weakness: Her Petty Side

Overall, Midnight has a quirky but fun personality, and this makes her a fan favorite. Sometimes, though, she acts more like an obnoxious adolescent than her students do. This is especially true when she and Mt. Lady are in a room together.

They were both interviewed on TV, but things got derailed when Midnight and Mt. Lady both started antagonizing each other, and the scuffle soon got physical. Mineta was delighted (he was watching on TV), but it reflects poorly on both Midnight and Mt. Lady. This isn't how heroes behave.

8 Strength: Good At Disguises

Once in a while, a hero will need to use stealth and disguises to complete the mission, rather than throwing punches. In the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes manga, for example, Midnight helped Koichi and his allies investigate some criminals, minus their hero costumes.

Midnight set a good example by elegantly arriving in fancy clothes that did not give herself away as a hero, and she acted like an ordinary citizen. It totally had everyone fooled, and this isn't something that the high-strung Endeavor or Best Jeanist could pull off so easily.

7 Weakness: Needing To Tear Clothes

This is a rather minor issue, and with any luck, it will never even come up. Like Momo Yaoyorozu, Midnight functions better when she has exposed skin, but she isn't allowed to fight crime in ultra-revealing clothes. So, she has a thin outfit that easily tears.

That allows her to release her quirk's vapors, but suppose she became paralyzed or weakened, or couldn't tear her costume for some other reason (such as if she fought Stain). Her quirk would become unusable since her clothes would block her quirk.

6 Strength: Cheerful

This is more significant than it may sound. A hero's public image (and therefore their effectiveness) is derived not only from their quirks and track record but also how likable they are. A hero is a person, not just a fighting machine.

Midnight has won over the crowds and the viewers alike with her upbeat and optimistic personality, and her fun-loving streak is infectious. It was she who happily helped the students of class 1-A come up with effective hero names for themselves.  That was a good time.

5 Weakness: Limited Physical Power

For the most part, Midnight's quirk means she doesn't even have to get into physical altercations with villains. And for riskier missions, she can bring along heroes with combat-oriented quirks. But suppose someone caught her unawares?

Midnight has minimal physical strength, and while likely exercises to keep herself fit, most UA students outmatch her strength, let alone villains. A villain with a gas mask will be a real problem, especially if they have a combat-oriented quirk. Aside from a whip, Midnight doesn't even carry weapons.

4 Strength: Good With Crowds

Overall, it can be said that Midnight is quite the extrovert, from her acting skills and upbeat personality to her total lack of stage fright. She loves attention and conversation, and this made her a great choice for acting as the UA sports festival's announcer.

Along with her colleague Present Mic, Midnight has a lot of fun announcing and narrating live events with great enthusiasm (and acting as a referee), and that can help draw in the crowd and maintain the excitement. She really knows how to rile up the crowd and keep the momentum going.

3 Weakness: Inappropriate With Students

Mineta may be the king of the inappropriate, but Midnight also has a tendency to push things rather far. Her visual gimmick as a hero is to have a dominatrix theme, and she only reluctantly covers her skin with that thin fabric while operating as a hero.

She does get rather hands-on with the students, though, and acts in a lusty manner that's unacceptable for a high school. She even had the sleeping Hanta Sero lay his head across her lap, which wasn't necessary at all. A few students have commented on her lack of personal boundaries.

2 Strength: Bypassing Defenses

Midnight uses her quirk

Midnight has a quirk that is powerful not because of its physical force, but from the fact that most conventional defenses have no effect on it. Intangible quirks like Midnight's or Ms. Joke's or Aizawa's can bypass body armor and other defenses with ease.

After all, Midnight's quirk is based on inhaling vapors, and most villains aren't ready for that kind of attack. They will leave their noses and mouths vulnerable, and no matter how well they geared up for a mission, they'll go down. The same is true for most defensive quirks, too, such as Eijiro Kirishima's hardened skin.

1 Weakness: Taking Some Enemies Lightly

Overall, Midnight is an expert fighter, and no one could say that she is irresponsible overall. But in some circumstances, she might get a little too relaxed and take her enemies too lightly, and that includes battles against her own students.

She easily knocked out Sero during the 2-v-1 tests, and she had Mineta Minoru cornered. But then she started toying with him, as per her battle lust, and she neglected to realize that Mineta could borrow Sero's tape to neutralize the Somnambulist quirk. That, combined with strategic use of the Pop Off quirk, allowed Mineta to rush past her and clear the gate while dragging Sero along.
