A possible cast list for Netflix's live-action My Hero Academia film has surfaced online. As detailed on Anime Senpai, Netflix confirmed last year that it would release a live-action film adaptation of My Hero Academia. The initial announcement revealed Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Flash (2023)) as the writer and Shinsuke Sato (Death Note: Light Up the New World) as both Director and Executive Producer. The company has since gone several months and has yet to confirm further details on the project. Recently, a cast list for the film appeared on IMDB, but most of it has now been removed, leaving only Leon Masuda as Ochaco and Taylour Paige as Rumi Usagiyama. An anime-centric Twitter account called TOKANIM (or Tokanim_FR) showcased the removed cast picks to its followers. Another Twitter account called MyTimeToShineHello also reported that the My Hero Academia film had been changed into a series for Netflix.RELATED: My Hero Academia Is Going At Its Slowest Pace Yet - But That's Okay

About My Hero Academia's Alleged Live-Action Casting

The TOKANIM's list shows picks for the lead character, Izuku Midoriya, or 'Deku", along with Ida, Bakugo, Shoto and Ochaco. David Mazouz, who is best known for his role as Bruce Wayne from the Gotham series, is cast as Deku. Issac Hempstead, who had major roles in both Game of Thrones and The Awakening (2011), is reportedly playing Ida. Jace Norman, the star of Nickelodeon's comedy series Henry Danger, is reportedly playing Bakugo. Graham Verchere, known for his roles in Stargirl (2010) and The Good Doctor, is reportedly playing Shoto. Isabel Gameros, the rumored pick for Ochaco, is known for their role in the TV miniseries Florida Man. Although it is unclear why most of these actors were removed from IMDB, some speculate that Netflix is considering recasting after waves of backlash from MHA fans upset that non-Japanese actors were cast as canonically Japanese characters.

Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia manga launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in July 2014. The series takes place in a world where most of humanity is born with inherent abilities called Quirks, which they can use for good or evil. Izuku Midoriya dreams of one day becoming a Hero, even though he was born Quirkless. While attending the prestigious U.A. High School, Izuku's earnest desire to protect humanity catches the eye of the world-famous hero, All Might, who takes the young boy under his wing and gifts him with a special Quirk known as "One for All."
