The new smash hit Shonen anime My Hero Academia stars Izuku Midoriya, a hero without a quirk (superpower) who aims to become the world's top hero. Once the hero All Might grants him a quirk, Izuku is sent off to UA, Japan's top heroic school, and Izuku meets many new hero students his age.

One of them is Tenya Iida, one of the most prominent students in a whole class of promising hero candidates. Between Izuku and Iida, who is the best boy in all of Hero Class 1-A? Every series needs a best boy to mirror the best girl, and there are fair reasons why it could be either Izuku or Iida. Let's check them out.

10 Izuku: His Relationship With Ochaco

Everyone needs a friend, and Izuku has a really charming and positive friendship with the lovely Ochaco Uraraka. Like Izuku, Ochaco is a bit of an underdog, with limited combat powers and humble origins.

But both students spark a strong friendship right away, where Izuku inspires Ochaco to reach new heights while Ochaco welcomes Izuku into a school that isn't entirely receptive of him. That, and a budding romance between them is just adorable to watch unfold on the screen!

9 Iida: He's The Class Rep

Japanese high schools are very organized, and a grade level is sorted neatly into several classes, like Classes 1-1, 2-3, and so on. Each class also votes for a class rep, or a president, to lead and represent them all. And in a hero high school, that's a pretty serious office to hold!

In this case, Hero Class 1-A names Tenya Iida as class president, and Iida is more than up to the job in all kinds of ways. Some students, like Bakugo, might mock him, but the rest really look up to him. For the record, Momo is the vice president, being a top student herself.

8 Izuku: Chosen By All Might

Being chosen by the world's top hero as his successor is a high honor indeed! The world doesn't know it, but All Might's time is running out, ever since All For One badly injured him years ago. The world's top hero needs a successor to the One For All quirk, and Izuku is just that person.

Izuku Midoriya's incredible courage and resolve, self-sacrifice, and noble soul all inspire All Might, and thus One For All is handed down. It's no ordinary teenage boy who is entrusted with such a thing!

7 Iida: He's A Fine Leader

Yes, it's been established that Tenya Iida was voted in as Class 1-A's president. But how well does he handle the job? Excellently! He was born for the role, it seems, since he's got a heroic mindset. At every opportunity, Iida will motivate, inspire, and educate his classmates to draw out their fullest potential, and he won't let any classmate get left behind.

Iida also goes the extra mile, acting as swim coach for the boys of Class 1-A when they visit the school pool over summer break. Denki and Mineta just wanted to watch the class's girls play around, but Iida sees an opportunity for growth!

6 Izuku: The Heroic Underdog

This ties in to how Izuku was chosen to bear the unique treasure of One For All. That's just a superpower; in terms of My Hero Academia's narrative, Izuku is the underdog, and this narrative is handled just right. Izuku is not so helpless that it's frustrating to watch him struggle, but he's not so mega-powered that his victories feel cheap.

Rather, Izuku has a smooth and steady climb to power, and it's a thrill to watch him clear each hudle. He's more dyanmic this way than Iida or most other characters are, excepting Ochaco. Go the distance, Izuku!

5 Iida: He's Smart

Iida didn't become class president by bribing everyone with baskets of goodies or slipping them a 1,000 Yen bill. Iida both looks smart... and really is. In fact, once the students got their own dorms on campus, Iida's room is packed with shelves of educational books (and spare glasses in the dozens).

Ochaco and the others are impressed with Iida's room/library hybrid, and to that effect, Iida is the #2 student, behind only the genius Momo Yaoyorozu. Anyone who needs some study help can come straight to him if Momo isn't available.

4 Izuku: Cool Fight Scenes

So, now we know that All Might chose Izuku as his successor, and that fact alone gives Izuku some serious prestige. And better yet, Izuku is making the most of it. One For All is a powerhouse of a quirk, and Izuku is quickly learning all kinds of creative ways to use it. He can deliver mega-punches, not to mention practice some high-powered kicks to give his arms a break.

Izuku can focus his power in one arm for a Smash attack, or even just a single finger for a precision strike (like in his duel against Shoto Todoroki). Or, Izuku can use Cowling to spread this quirk throughout his body for a more generalist approach. Villains are about to get pummeled for sure, and it's a blast to watch!

3 Iida: He's A Skilled Combatant

Izuku is certainly a fantastic fighter and hero, but Iida isn't about to get left in the dust. This class president has the Engine Quirk, which gives him ultra-powered legs with supersized calves and engine exhaust ports emerging from his skin. Iida can study like a pro, but he can fight like one, too!

His running speed is truly remarkable, and he can literally run circles around most foes. This lets him deliver powerful kicks, jump long distances, and evade attacks. Catch him if you can!

2 Izuku: He's A Battle Mastermind

While Iida is the smartest boy in Hero Class 1-A, Izuku has proven himself a cunning strategist out on the battlefield. While Izuku is a decent student on paper, he can outthink most foes on the fly. Owing to being quirkless until recently, Izuku relied on studying other people's quirks and analyzing how to make use of them or defeat them!

Even after gaining One For All, Izuku continues to analyze everything, and that lets him find and exploit opportunities that would slip past most of his classmates. He even impressed the prodigy Mirio Togata with this battle intuition, and Mirio is sure that a certain someone (who might that be?) will be impressed, too.

1 Iida: To The Rescue!

Tenya Iida got a chance to prove his mettle as a trainee hero, though unfortunately it wasn't on his own terms. His big brother Tensei Iida fell to the hero killer Stain, and Iida couldn't just sit on this information. He hurried to a neighboring city at once, and he fearlessly confronted Strain to avenge his brother's defeat.

Iida ended up needing help from a few classmates such as Izuku and Shoto, but all the same, this action shows Iida's true grit and selfless heroics. Iida really has the moral fiber of a hero, and that's something to commend.
