My Hero Academia is one of the more entertaining anime to come out of the past few years and the series’ popularity has only grown more intense. There are plenty of popular shonen anime series, but My Hero Academia stands out with how it effortlessly mixes together superhero tropes with the basic shonen conventions.

It’s very satisfying to watch Izuku Midoriya and his peers' journey to join the ranks of My Hero Academia’s prestigious professional heroes. There are lots of important pro heroes in the series, but a good name can mean everything in a competitive industry and some of these characters know how to take advantage of this.

10 Comicman Proves The Value Of Good Branding

Manga My Hero Academia Comicman Comic Quirk

Class 1-B at U.A. High doesn't get the same level of love and attention as Class 1-A, but there are still some exceptional heroes-in-training among the mix. Comicman is a hero that's gotten a bit more attention in the manga, but he's one of the odder heroes that has quite the perfect name and identity. Comicman's real name is Manga Fukidashi and he has the Comic Quirk, which allows him to create onomatopoeias into real life. Comicman’s name may seem incredibly basic, but it's to the point and works without overcomplicating things.

9 Tentacle Hero Tentacole Hammers In His Quirk

Anime My Hero Academia Asui Mineta Inside Shoji

U.A. High's Class 1-A is full of some steep competition over who will be the next pro hero and so it's expected for some individuals to recede into the background. Despite Mezo Shoji's aggressive appearance and his inability to mask his Dupli-Arms Quirk, he's not a character that often gets to save the day. That being said, the character makes an even bigger impression with his name, the Tentacle Hero Tentacole. The moniker is slightly repetitive and even somewhat confusing because Mezo's multiple arms aren't exactly tentacles. However, there's no denying that it's still oddly catchy.

8 Jack Mantis Has A Fitting Name For His Aggressive Look

Manga My Hero Academia Jack Mantis Angry

Togaru Kamakiri is a hot-headed student at U.A. High that in many ways feels like Class 1-B's equivalent to Bakugo. Togaru's Razor Sharp Quirk compliments his insect-like appearance, which is why he's adopted the hero title, Jack Mantis. Jack Mantis doesn't just sound cool, but it's also a strong descriptor in Togaru's case.

Jack Mantis has been able to show off more of his skills in the manga than in the anime, but he’s still a mystery in many ways. Jack Mantis will hopefully receive greater development, but until then it's hard to forget his name.

7 Sweets Hero Sugarman Creates An Image That Buries His Strength

Anime MHA Rikido Sato eating sweets

There are a surprising number of Quirks in My Hero Academia that are related to food and consumption and Rikido Sato and his Sugar Rush Quirk are a prime example. Rikido's Quirk allows him to drastically magnify his strength if he consumes large amounts of sugar. In this sense, the name Sweets Hero Sugarman is deeply appropriate. It's also an interesting fit for the gruff energy that Rikido gives off and seems like it’d be more appropriate for a female hero. It’s a good way to subvert the enemy’s expectations and Rikido keeps his attitude a mystery.

6 Maboromicamie Creates An Air Of Mystique Over Camie Utsushimi

Camie mha glamour quirk

Camie Utsushimi is a rarity in My Hero Academia in that she's not a U.A. High student and her first appearance is technically through one of Himiko Toga's transformations. Camie has become popular in a short amount of time and her Glamour Quirk and militaristic hero outfit create an effective image. Camie's hero name is Maboromicamie, which seems like a confusing mouthful, but is actually a clever pun over Camie's real name. It's a creative name that's likely to leave the enemy either confused or amused.

5 Turtle Neck Is A Hero Name That Doesn’t Take Itself Too Seriously

Anime My Hero Academia Turtle Neck Hero Limbs Retracted

Tatami Nakagame is another My Hero Academia character who is only seen in small doses due to how she attends Ketsubutsu Academy rather than U.A. High. A hero name like Turtle Neck may quickly bring to mind many thoughts over a reptilian-based Quirk, but it's more complicated in Tatami's case.

Tatami does don an actual turtle neck, but her Telescopic Quirk allows her appendages to retract into her body, not unlike a turtle. It's a hero name that's direct but also functions on multiple levels.

4 Fresh-Picked Hero Grape Juice Is As Confusing As It Is Creative

Anime mha mineta

Minoru Mineta is a sweet member of U.A. High’s Class 1-A and while he’s not the most valuable support in battle, he’s an entertaining friend that’s often by Izuku Midoriya’s side. It’s easy to pick on Minoru due to his tiny size and the strange nature of his Pop Off Quirk. Minoru is absolutely the kind of character to create an elaborate hero name to inflate his ego and Fresh-Picked Hero Grape Juice gets the job done. The name is appropriate considering the grape-like nature of Mineta’s Quirk, but it also causes dissent over just what this hero does.

3 Scheming Hero Vantablack Is Full Of Dark Secrets

Manga My Hero Academia Vantablack Hanging Scary

Shihai Kuroiro is a Class 1-B student at U.A. High who has a truly intimidating Quirk at his disposal. Kuroiro's Black Quirk allows him to merge his body into any dark objects or surfaces, including shadows. Kuroiro's look and Quirk wouldn't carry the same impact if his hero name were a disappointment, but it's thankfully just as eerie. Scheming Hero Vantablack properly emphasizes the enigmatic way in which Kuroiro works. It’s a title that lets him properly become the boogeyman that he wants to be.

2 Shining Hero Can't Stop Twinkling Has A Better Name Than A Quirk

Yuga Aoyama fires off his Navel Laser Quirk in My Hero Academia

The characters in My Hero Academia can typically be divided into groups of those with practical Quirks and those that have powers that function more like visual gags or bizarre punchlines. Yuga Aoyama and his Navel Laser Quirk are extremely weird and they've helped more outside of battle than within. However, the title Shining Hero Can't Stop Twinkling is hard to ignore and it makes Aoyama seem a lot more important and eternal. The creative name isn't going to help him with any more battles, but it does help him stand out more among his peers.

1 Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight Properly Represents Bakugo’s Inner Rage

Bakugo smiling with a smirk and wearing his costume.

Katsuki Bakugo is one of the most fascinating characters in My Hero Academia, whether it’s as a friendly rival to Midoriya, or the ways in which he’s able to learn more about himself as a hero. Bakugo’s impulsive nature and temper get the better of him during the earlier seasons of My Hero Academia, but he’s able to improve into quite the skilled fighter. Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight is an incredibly hyperbolized name that’s nearly laughable, but it speaks to Bakugo’s brash confidence. It’s a name that wouldn’t work for anybody else.
