WARNING: The following contains spoilers for My Hero Academia Season 5, Episode 4, "Make It Happen, Shinso!" now streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation and Hulu.

Ever since the early days of My Hero Academiathe first-year students of the U.A. school have been split into two competing classes: the top-rated Class 1-A and their rivals, Class 1-B (led by the teacher Vlad King). The Class 1-B students have largely been in the background until now, but during this joint-training exercise, characters such as Jurota Shishida are coming to the fore at last.

Jurota and his classmates now have ample opportunities to show viewers and Class 1-A's students alike exactly what they're capable of, and "Make It Happen, Shinso!" makes it clear that Jurota isn't just a beast -- he is actually the Beast of X-Men fame.

How Jurota Shishida Pays Homage To Hank McCoy/Beast

Jurota Shishida growls at the enemy in My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia Season 5, Episode 4 was Jurota Shishida's time to shine as the central focus of this particular battle between Class 1-A and 1-B. Class 1-A had a numerical advantage with Hitoshi Shinso on their side, but Jurota was 1-B's main asset. His Beast Quirk grants him super strength and speed, remarkable agility, and a keen sense of smell. Class 1-A tried to use Jurota's strong nose against him but had mixed results. Jurota has the nose of a monster but the brains of a man, making for a potent combination. It took everything Tsuyu Asui had to outsmart Jurota's nose, and even then it was a close call.

Jurota pays clear homage to X-Men's Hank McCoy/Beast with his "brains and brawn" theme as his Quirk transforms him into a furry juggernaut of destruction. Even in human form, Jurota has an animalistic appearance from his fur to his canines and burly arms. His Quirk simply pushes all this to 11. Hank McCoy is similarly always in Beast mode and rarely, if ever, does he look like an ordinary human. Both characters have super strength and are also highly agile, using speed as their weapon as much as physicality (and a sharp human mind to coordinate it all).

Both Jurota and Beast are team players, easily integrating their serious strength into a team of heroes with rather different powers. Hank often fights alongside Bobby Drake/Iceman and Angel, among others, and Jurota fought Class 1-A with the aid of Hiryu Rin, Ibara Shiozaki, and Kosei Tsuburaba. Their team operated like a well-oiled machine, and Hank would be proud.

How Jurota & Hank Differ As Heroic Beasts

Hank McCoy as the X-Men's Beast

There are a few cosmetic differences between Jurota and Hank, but that's just the start. Jurota changes back and forth between his human and Beast forms, whereas Hank's form is always active. The question is simply whether he's using his formidable strength or not. Jurota has brown fur and sunglasses as a hero, while Beast is noted for his blue (originally gray) fur as a mutant, and he doesn't usually wear headgear. Hank is also a grown man and a working professional while Jurota is an adolescent, still in training at his magical high school.

Jurota's power comes from his Quirk factor in particular, which makes him susceptible to Overhaul's anti-Quirk weapon. Also, in theory, a wielder of All For One could steal Jurota's Beast Quirk and start using it. Hank McCoy would have nothing to fear from My Hero Academia's dastardly villain.

While both characters have a "brains and brawn" theme, Hank McCoy pushes it much further. Being a notable X-Men member and a professional, Hank has a genius IQ and is well-educated in many fields of science and academics, from speaking multiple languages to mechanical engineering, anatomy, quantum physics, political science, and more. Jurota can't even begin to compare to this, and according to official My Hero Academia stats, his Intelligence stat is a C, or 3/6. That's not bad, but it's hardly on Beast's level.

Instead, Jurota mostly emulates the super-intellectual life by speaking in a polite and eloquent manner. My Hero Academia fluff explains that this is simply a result of his upbringing. For now, Jurota is very much Hank McCoy's junior, but he's still growing. He may one day become a destructive but highly effective hero on the streets.
