There are some characters in My Hero Academia whose quirk can give them the characteristics of certain animals, as is the case with Pro Hero Gang Orca. Named after the killer whale, Orca has a quirk that causes him to have the appearance of this giant mammal, gaining abilities that are similar to it.

Originally named Kugo Sakamata, Orca may be one of UA Academy’s toughest instructors when he was first introduced to the students as he helped prepare them for some tough challenges ahead. Orca comes off as a powerful individual and he has such a demanding presence when he’s on-screen.

10 His Quirk Gives Him The Ability of a Killer Whale

Just like his appearance, Orca can mimic the abilities of a killer whale, which has become very useful in the field called Orcinus. Just like the sea mammal, Orca has superhuman strength as well as heightened senses. He also has some great stamina thanks to his enhanced durability.

What is perhaps his most powerful skill is his hypersonic waves, an ability that can paralyze his targets. This power was seen first hand when he used it on the students during the the Provisional Exams. Even though he can use this ability on land, it can become extremely powerful when he’s out at sea.

9 Gang Orca Was Inspired By Omagadoki Zoo

Before My Hero Academia, creator Kohei Horikoshi made a manga called Omagadoki Zoo. The manga followed the exploits of a cursed zoo where an egotistic director of the establishment has the body of an animal. One of the animals on the show is an orca, which shares some similarities in appearance to My Hero Academia’s own whale-like hero.

What is also surprising is that he is also named Sakamata, which Horikoshi gave Orca as a last name. Horikoshi wanted to bring some of his previous creations to My Hero Academia, hence came Orca’s conception to show some love to the 2010 manga series.

8 He’s A Member of the Hideout Raid Team

Comprising some of the top Pro Heroes, Orca was a member of the Hideout Raid Team that included the likes of All Might, Endeavor, Best Jeanist, Edgeshot, Kamui Woods, Mt. Lady, Tiger, Grand Torino, and X-Less. This team was created by the police in order to rescue Bakugo when he was kidnapped by the League of Villains.

This was the first time we were introduced to the killer whale in My Hero Academia. We didn’t get much time to see him in action, but we did see how strong he was after surviving the blast when the team destroyed the villainous group’s warehouse.

7 Gang Orca Can Be Villainous When He Needs To

Even though Orca can come off as a calm and focused, he does have a villainous side to him. That part of him came out during the Provisional Licensing Exam as he became a big threat to the students. All of this proves just how hard he can push his students to become the best that they can be.

Orca takes his job as a teacher very seriously, even calling out the mistakes that they would make. However, he does enjoy getting to see them attempt to fix their mistakes. So even though he comes off as a tough instructor, Orca does have a soft side for his students.

6 He Is Fond Of Kids

Orca may be hard on his students, but he does take an interest in the younger generation. He displays affection to young kids who look up to their heroes wanting to become like them someday. His love for kids is perhaps one of Orca’s most prominent characteristics.

Since he has a strong desire to make friends with the kids, all he really wants from them is to show dedication and motivation to become the heroes that they want to be to society. Just like All Might, Orca just wants to support the growth of the next generation of heroes.

5 His Superhero Costume Is Basically A Suit

When Orca is in action doing hero duty, his costume isn’t as flashy as his colleagues. What he basically wears is a simple white suit with a collar that goes all the way to his chin. What is nice about the suit is how his collar is shaped like teeth just like a whale. He even wears a pink tie that often sticks out like a tongue.

On his back, he wears a cape that matches his killer whale persona. In a way, his superhero costume makes him look like a whale walking on land, which can be intimidating when he’s in battle.

4 He Went From Number 10 to 12 In The Top Heroes List

In the Hero rankings, Orca was among the top 10 heroes based on popularity. Back when All Might was still a Pro Hero, Orca maintained his status as a top-ranked hero in the 10th spot. Ever since the number one Pro Hero retired, Orca’s status also changed along with his peers.

With Endeavor now positioned as the number one Pro Hero in the list, that put the others at a different ranking. Orca was pushed down to being number 12 while Ryuko Tatsuma took his spot at number 10.

3 Gang Orca Was Ranked Third Among Heroes Who Look Like Villains

Believe it or not, Orca does look kind of villainous when he’s in action. It is why he was ranked on a list of heroes who look like villains. Just on his look alone, he can be quite menacing, so it's no wonder he was ranked third on the list.

Even during the Provisional Licensing exams, he acted more like a villain towards the students in order to push them to their limits. He certainly has the face of a villain once his eyes are open for an attack. Ocra played the part of a convincing villain pretty well, especially once he goes on the offensive.

2 Gang Orca’s Weakness Is Heat

As an amphibian-type hero who relies on the water to strengthen his attack power, being on land doesn’t take a toll on Orca’s body unless he is surrounded by extreme heat. We saw this in action when Shoto Todoroki used his fire ability to trap Orca in a fire prison during the Provisional Exam.

Orca was struggling to keep his head up as the fire kept closing in on him. However, his durability was able to withstand the heat for just a couple of minutes despite it weakening his body. It just proves just how strong Orca is in tough situations.

1 He Is Very Quick

My Hero Academia Gang Orca

Despite being a huge person, Orca can actually be pretty fast on the field. This was demonstrated when he went one-on-one with Todoroki. During their fight, Orca was able to distance himself from Todoroki and he did it without the top student noticing his movement.

Some whales aren’t particularly fast, but Orca was able to quickly move and stay one step ahead of his students in combat. His size can fool anyone thinking that Orca can’t be quick enough against smaller people. It is perhaps one of his better abilities through his quirk.
