We've seen Deku improve so much over the course of My Hero Academia. It's been inspiring to watch. But the truth of the matter is that Deku currently is not at a point where he can beat all of his opponents, no matter how badly he wishes otherwise.

Now, some of those opponents he could absolutely beat in time. After all, we can only assume that he'll eventually get to All Might's level, and that's saying something. That being said...there are also people that Deku will surely never be able to beat, as much as we hate to actually admit it.

We've gone ahead and listed five characters that Deku can't beat in a fight yet – and the five that we're not sure he'll ever be able to beat.

This list contains spoilers from the MHA's manga.

10 Deku Can't Beat Yet: Stain

We all remember the iconic battle in which Deku, Iida, and Todoroki took on the infamous Stain. While they won that fight, it took teamwork in order to do so. If Midoriya had been in that fight by himself, it would arguably have gone quite differently.

That being said, Deku is getting stronger with each passing episode (or chapter, if you're a manga reader). It stands to reason that one day Deku will be strong enough to take Stain on by himself. Presuming that Stain ever leaves prison, or is capable of fighting again (do recall his injuries).

9 Deku Never Will Beat: Bakugo

Izuku Midoriya facing Katuski Bakugo in My Hero Academia.

When we say that Deku will never beat Bakugo, we mean that for a very specific reason. Deku worships Bakugo like a hero. It seems extremely unlikely that he will ever go after Bakugo in a fight the way that would be required to win.

By that, we mean this: someday, Deku will probably become strong enough to win in a fair fight between the two. But he'll likely never see it that way,  and instead would see Bakugo as somebody to strive to become.

8 Deku Can't Beat Yet: Todoroki

shoto todoroki

Deku and Todoroki have battled once before, and it did not go well for Deku. Granted, he forced Todoroki to face some internal demons in the process. While Deku is surely not at a point yet where he could take on Todoroki and win, that is merely a temporary state.

If we are to believe that Deku will someday become as strong and powerful as All Might, we can only assume that he will likewise see a day when he could win a fight against Todoroki. Especially given some revelations in the manga.

7 Deku Never Will Beat: Lemillion

mirio togata From My Hero Academia

You can't beat what you can't catch. And yes, we know that this list item requires Lemillion to get his quirk back again. We assume that one day this will happen, thanks to Eri's quirk. Perhaps that is wishful thinking, but we don't think so.

Back to the point at hand: Deku likely never could win a fight against Lemillion for a simple reason. Lemillion can control what hits him, and what goes through him. And since Deku will never hold a young girl hostage...this fights conclusion feels inevitable.

6 Deku Can't Beat Yet: Twice

Twice is one of those characters that may be easily overlooked, but as the manga has shown us; his quirk is exceptionally dangerous, especially once let off the leash. If Deku was put up against a fight with Twice right now, he would likely lose.

But if we ask ourselves if Twice would win in a fight against All Might in his prime? That answer is no. Which implies that someday the same will be true for Deku as well.

5 Deku Never Will Beat: All Might

Yes, we know, All Might is retired. That is part of our point here. Deku and All Might will never have the opportunity to battle. To test their worth against one another. While they may be okay with that on some level, it must also be mildly irritating.

Even if the fight was possible, we don't see Midoriya winning against his hero. Again, we know that Deku and Bakugo faced off against All Might and won. But again, that was a specific circumstance (with them just needing to get away), and Deku had an ally (of sorts), while All Might had dampers on.

4 Deku Can't Beat Yet: Gigantomachia

Anime Gigantomachia-My Hero Academia

Gigantomachia is an antagonist better known to fans of the manga. He's the most loyal servant to All For One. You can imagine what that surely implies. Given how much trouble Gigantomachia has been to other heroes (including Gran Torino), we don't doubt that Deku would have trouble against this enemy. For now.

We believe that this is a statement that will change. There will come a time when Deku can face enemies of this scale and win without an issue. We hope that someday is sooner rather than later.

3 Deku Never Will Beat: Overhaul (Without Help)

Deku may have won the fight against Overhaul, but he couldn't have done it without help. Sir Nighteye's prediction would have come true, if not for a few factors. Deku's determination certainly played a part, but so did Eri's quirk.

We'll never know if Deku could have won that fight solely on his own. He'll certainly never get the chance for a rematch, what with the current status of Overhaul and all. It's almost a shame. Almost.

2 Deku Can't Beat Yet: Tomura Shigaraki

Shigaraki at his base

Tomura Shigaraki is a character that they've been building up to for quite some time. It's clear that someday he and Deku will face off against one another. As it stands, the odds are not in Deku's favor for a battle right now. That goes doubly so if you take into account his latest changes in the manga.

We also believe that Deku will eventually surpass his counterpart. It feels almost inevitable, though likely it won't happen until later in the series.

1 Deku Never Will Beat: All For One

all for one

Last on our list; All For One. As it stands right now, Deku will never win against All For One. Not the version we've seen him in, at least. All For One is constantly shifting, thanks to his ability to take quirks.

That means we will never get to see Deku face the version of All For One that cost his mentor so. Without knowing what quirks All For One will eventually get his hands on (we can only assume this will happen), we have no way of knowing if Deku will be able to win those fights or not.
