When My Hero Academia first premiered, it introduced one of the most interesting rivalries that anime fans have seen in years. While Goku and Vegeta started off on different sides of a battle, Midoriya Izuku and Katsuki Bakugo's relationship started off much pettier. Deku was just a childhood nerd. Bakugo was a childhood bully. At a young age, the two were on different paths towards becoming Pro Heroes.

Bakugo was an angsty kid whose natural talents and anger helped mold him into a cutthroat student. Deku was a timid kid who had to be pushed into the world where he is now, but he is working twice as hard as anyone else to stay there. This list will be looking at those opposing upbringings, as it looks at certain things that Deku can exclusively do (& a few things that only Bakugo can).

10 Deku Can: One For All

One of the more obvious differences between these two is their Quirks. While Deku may be at quite a developmental handicap having been given a Quirk late in life, that ability is quite a doozy. One for All grants its user the stacked strength of all of its past users, making it an ability built on both community and history.

Initially, this started off as just strength enhancement, but Deku has started to inherit the past users' Quirks as well. Not only does Deku get to be All Might's chosen child, he also gets a few more Quirks than Bakugo as well.

9 Bakugo Can: Explosion

While he may not have One for All, Bakugo has certainly turned his own Quirk into a force to be reckoned with. Explosion allows the user to sweat an explosive substance very similar to nitroglycerin. With it, Bakugo's various attacks carry a lot of impact on them. Whether it's just the pure impact of his explosions or the massive heat generated from them, Bakugo's enemies are gonna have a hard time getting up.

In addition, Bakugo's surprising intelligence and talent also allow him to implement his Quirk with a level of creativity and strategy that Deku can't quite do yet. And, given Bakugo's advanced combat ability for a high schooler, Deku may never do so quite like his rival.

8 Deku Can: Be Quiet

Even though he's not as naturally explosive as Bakugo, that's not inherently a bad thing. Bakugo may have more experience and more consistent power behind his Quirk, but it's also made him an arrogant, street punk. To be blunt, Bakugo is a loudmouth. His voice is either booming through U.A.'s halls or terrifying children as a huge stadium.

He is not a quiet or censored guy. Deku, on the other hand, has much better control of his inner volume and even prefers to stay quieter in most situations. For anime fans, many are glad that he's the voice of the series.

7 Bakugo Can: Fight Dirty

Continuing Bakugo's trend of not being family-friendly, he's also far from being an upstanding fighter. Having been a bully for a good portion of his childhood years, Bakugo has developed some bad habits that directly translated to his fighting style. Not only does he have no mercy for his opponent, but he can also quickly succumb to using dirty tricks.

This has meant attacking one spot of Kirishima's seemingly impenetrable body or using his flash grenade on Tokoyami after overhearing that his weakness was light. While this doesn't make him an ideal role model for little kids, it does make him a more consistent fighter than Deku. For better or worse, Deku's not willing to do whatever it takes to win.

6 Deku Can: Work Well With Others

On that note, Deku does have a huge advantage over Bakugo given that he can more easily work well with others. When Bakugo first enters any situation, whether it's a classroom or a stadium full of people, he's going to quickly declare that he's better than everyone else. While confidence is always great to have at a young age, this made him the hardest guy to work with, and this has worked against him during the Battle Trial Arc and the Provisional License Exam Arc.

Even during his own rescue, it was a major plot point that Bakugo wouldn't accept help from most of his classmates (Kirishima notwithstanding). Throughout the series, Deku has been able to near seamlessly work with different people, whether it's Tsuyu and Mineta during USJ or Bakugo's rescue team. He's a team player.

5 Bakugo Can: Win A Fight

bakugo and deku

This isn't to say that Deku can't win a fight. The series has made it a point that he can definitely win his own battles nowadays, such as his recent clashes with Overhaul and Gentle Criminal. However, he's never formally won a fight against Bakugo. Ever since they were little kids,

Bakugo has easily beaten up poor Deku. Despite having inherited One for All, Deku still can't get one over Bakugo in a one-on-one fight. After their emotional fight outside Heights Alliance, Bakugo showed once again that he might be the better man.

4 Deku Can: Work With Children

Despite not being able to make Bakugo eat dirt, Deku's niceties and vulnerability do help make him a better role model. Throughout the series, Deku has slowly proven that he may be the next All Might in one key quality: Being able to inspire children. During the League of Villain's invasion on their training camp, Deku got to inspiring a young Kota.

After the Shie Hassaikai Arc, he got to continue the trend with Eri. At the other end of the spectrum during the Remedial Course Arc, Bakugo thought that he could discipline a group of kids by fighting the toughest kid. This man should never become a babysitter.

3 Bakugo Can: Beat Todoroki

Anime My-Hero-Bakugo-Sports-Festival

During the Sports Festival Arc, Shoto Todoroki came off as this unstoppable force that surpassed all of his colleagues in terms of both power and skill. He was able to quickly dominate the initial races, proved his leadership during the cavalry battle, and made quick work of his early opponents during the battle tournament. However, he reached his first real challenge when he came across Deku who challenged him both physically and emotionally.

While most other Shonen series would have Deku win this fight to physically prove his philosophy, he eventually lost. Bakugo, however, was able to make quick work of Todoroki during their final battle. While Todoroki wasn't able to bust out the same explosion that defeated Deku, he wasn't being easy on Bakugo either. In another showing encounter, Bakugo once again proved his fighting ability.

2 Deku Can: Be Likable

As stated several times over this list, Bakugo is not a nice guy. During childhood, he was a ruthless bully. Within his U.A. years, he's still a punk kid that perhaps only Kirishima likes. Deku, however, has been humbled from a young age and has learned to be grateful for everything that he has and everyone that is around him.

This has made him a much more gracious and welcoming person. This is best exemplified by their first days of school, in which Bakugo struggled to regain his middle school popularity whereas Deku was immediately elected class president.

1 Bakugo Can: Use His Quirk Without Breaking His Arms

Bakugo is possibly going to struggle with his offensive demeanor for ages. However, what he likes in being a marketable hero, he more than makes up for by being a more consistent one. Deku may be All Might's chosen child, but he's constantly being tested by One for All every time it breaks his arms.

Bakugo, however, has a very easy time using his Quirk without losing some limbs. While his arms can get tired from straining his Quirk, this can be quickly fixed with some good sleep. Deku, on the other hand, arm, and leg, is already becoming famous in U.A.'s nursing office.
