While it’s true that superhero outfits are auxiliary gadgets most of the time, that is not necessarily the case in My Hero Academia. In a society infested with villains and malice, seeing a superhero cape fluttering about can bring considerable peace of mind to the civilians. Furthermore, hero outfits in My Hero Academia provide more than that; plenty of hero outfits incorporate support equipment that assists the hero in fighting crime. The hero costume is ultimately the symbol of its wearer.

Class 1-A, the main squad of My Hero Academia, obviously understood that point quite well. Most of them picked outfits synonymous with their persona, quirk, or otherwise, just their sense of justice.

20 Toru Hagakure

Toru in her hero outfit

There is nothing to see here. Literally. As an invisible character, Toru Hagakure picked the outfit that suited her the most: A lack of an outfit.

Anything she wears would render her invisibility obsolete, so she typically wears nothing so as not to be seen. Though she does occasionally put on clothes in various circumstances, her actual hero outfit in its entirety is composed only of a pair of gloves and a pair of shoes, which is likely only even done for the sake of viewers being able to follow her actions.

19 Shoto Todoroki

Shoto saves three incapacitated people

On the topic of minimalists, Shoto knows a thing or two about that. He, in his hero form, is usually garbed in a plain gym-clothes-modeled outfit, making him look like a regular civilian when he isn't engaged in battle.

Opposite to the concept of a hero, especially in the world of MHA where the idea is to try and get as much attention as much as possible, there is nothing striking about Shoto’s hero costume. Not that his actions don't speak for him just fine.

18 Minoru Mineta

In true Mineta fashion, the Fresh-Picked Hero truly does (not) disappoint. Then again, the most possible case scenario in play is that he picked what suits him the most, nothing more and nothing less.

His hero suit has more stakes in the comical department rather than the desired awe-inspiring department. Still, it's inarguable that it would do its work just fine.

17 Mashirao Ojiro

Ojiro hero outfit

Again, hero costumes are the representation of their wearer. In that sense, the usually quiet Mashiro is very likely to pick something relatively inconspicuous. And something relatively inconspicuous he picked, all right: A simple karate gi that quietly screams Mashirao Ojiro.

His hero costume makes it plenty obvious why he has been flagged as "normal" by his classmates. Apparently, Mashirao doesn't care about attention in the least.

16 Koji Koda

koji koda my hero academia

Koji is a character overshadowed by just about everyone. Even the narrative, the one that's supposed to do him justice, shrugs him off every now and then. Naturally, his hero outfit is similar to him in status, seemingly impervious to attention.

With that said, if the fact that he draws zero attention was ignored, Koji is quite the competent hero to rely on.

15 Momo Yaoyorozu

Momo’s revealing outfit actually serves a functional purpose. Items constructed by her Quirk, Creation, directly come out out of her body. So she actually does need to have as much bare skin as possible in order to facility that ability.

A very inconvenient Quirk flaw, to say the least, though in the world of MHA— where heroes need to try and stand out from the others and maximize their popularity— there's an obvious benefit to what Momo wears in terms of earning herself more fans.

14 Rikido Sato

When out to fight crime, Rikido is usually garbed in an all-yellow tight bodysuit sided with white gloves and boots with some sweet supplements stored on his bet. His overall style is reminiscent of classic superhero outfits.

Though he doesn't exclusively use supplementary equipment, he does have a few cans of sugar nesting on his belt. Considering Rikido's Quirk, those could turn the tide of battles if they were to be used efficiently.

13 Mezo Shoji

Mezo Shoji with over a dozen ears

Most Pro Heroes design their outfits to be as potent as possible, a small minority design theirs to be as comfortable as possible; Mezo belongs to the latter category. His sleeveless bodysuit is designed in a manner that would make it easier for his arms to move freely.

Moreso, Mezo requires no gadgets to maximize his Quirk’s output. His Dupli-Arms is, after all, one of the most versatile Quirks in the series.

12 Denki Kaminari

Denki hero costume

Denki picked the slick look as usual. As his style is more concerned with long-ranged combat, mobility is not of utmost priority to him. As such, he garbs himself in a casual outfit that highlights his happy-go-lucky persona.

His mini-disk gun acquired in the second half of the series also adds a peculiar spice to his overall style. His using it undoubtedly boosted his Quirk's performance up by a few notches.

11 Fumikage Tokoyami

His stunning outfit aside, Fumikage also boasts one of the coolest hero names in the series: Jet-Black Hero Tsukuyomi.

And similar to his aforementioned classmates, Fumikage also does not require active support tools to assist him in battle, his Dark Shadow is more capable on its own. If anything, hastily-put support tools would only bring him down.

10 Izuku Midoriya

Deku’s initial costume was reminiscent of a green, smiling All Might. Halfway through, though, he decided to go for his own style, one that is much simpler than his first try. And although his current design is not the most conspicuous, it undeniably fits him the most.

More than anything, this outfit vital for Deku's Shoot Style. It's more practical than most outfits in the hero sense.

9 Kyoka Jiro

Kuoko Jiro thumbs up

Similar to Kaminari, Kyoka’s outfit of choice is much baggier than her counterparts. In a sense, it is very similar to Kaminari’s style. Her Quirk is not taxing on movement neither does it require close-quarter engagement.

In hindsight, Kyoka going for the comfy is the right choice. Though in her case, the more gadgets on her body, the better for her Quirk's potency.

8 Tsuyu Asui

tsuyu asui

Tsuyu, or Tsu-chan as she prefers to be called, is the jack of all trades of Class 1-A. She is very skilled in most of the departments that produce an awe-inspiring hero. Her simple all-green bodysuit compliments both her hero persona and Quirk.

A tight bodysuit is essential in Tsuyu's case. She is, after all, a close combat main; she is at her best when the enemy is a few feet away from her.

7 Mina Ashido

mina ashido

This Alien Queen’s outfit particularly stands out from the dozen others. It is unique for the sake of being unique, very Mina-like. Her choice of colors also happens to rhyme well with her easygoing antics.

In addition to the wild design, Mina's outfit enjoys acid-resistant qualities. It would defeat the whole purpose if she accidentally burned her own clothes, after all.

6 Hanta Sero

Hanta Sero injured

Hanta remains very faithful to the main topic of his Quirk: Tapes. His costume is put together in a way that highlights the best of the Taping Hero. His mask, in particular, makes him look very remarkable in crowds.

While striking, the main purpose of his mask is to protect Hanta from air resistance and whatnot. Eye protectors are essential for when he is slinging about.

5 Yuga Aoyama

Aoyama in hero license exam

In terms of uniqueness, it’s very unlikely that Aoyama has any competition. The mad lad went for a knight’s half-plate armor for a costume, if that is not unique then every other costume in the hero business is completely bland.

Though it's unknown whether his armor has protective qualities, it's very impressive-looking nonetheless.

4 Katsuki Bakugo

Bakugo hero outfit

Katchan’s outfit is as explosive as an outfit could get, quite literally. He is also one of the few students in Class 1-A who actively uses support equipment. His grenade gauntlets help limit the strain of his Quirk as well as augmenting it.

And even when his Quirk is at a buffering stage, he could use the implemented mini-grenades to fend off the opposition. All-in-all, it's a costume that augments Katchan's strengths whilst simultaneously covering for his weaknesses.

3 Ochaco Uraraka

Ochaco using her quirk During A Mission In My Hero Academia

Of all her counterparts, Ochaco went for the most stereotypically feminine-looking outfit, a pick that would undeniably put her enemies into confusion— when she's in battle, all of those cute flourishes and pink accents betray a relentlessly aggresive fighter. Quite a few of her victims could vouch for that.

Her Zero Gravity in tandem with the Gunhead Martial Arts she had learned a while back could bring the best out of her meticulously designed outfit.

2 Eijiro Kirishima

eijiro kirishima

Eijiro’s outfit simply is a hardboiled kind of outfit that follows very well with his hero name: Red Riot. When in his hardened mode, keeping an eye off him will prove difficult.

Especially with how menacing his overall look becomes when he is fully suited, Eijiro could easily be mistaken for a villain— the cool kind of villain to be specific.

1 Tenya Ida

tenya iida tsuyu asui

Tenya Ida and his outfit might appear mismatched at first, and for obvious reasons. Yet when he is donned in it, everything just flows naturally.

Who knew that a seemingly stiff costume and a stiff class representative could produce such a smooth resonance. At the very least, calling his outfit the coolest in the neighborhood will not be overrating it.
