Warning: The following contains spoilers for Episode 11 of My Hero Academia Season 6, "Dabi's Dance", now streaming on Crunchyroll.

In only 15 episodes, Season 6 of My Hero Academia has left fans with multiple bombshells that have completely changed the narrative in more ways than one and especially pulled the rug from under each character's feet. One of the biggest game-changers of the newest season was the grim reveal of Dabi's backstory and upbringing.

Among the chaos of the war, Dabi takes the entire country by storm by not only revealing Endeavor's abuse of his family, but that he himself is Endeavor's long-lost son. With recorded proof of Endeavor's disreputable behavior, Dabi shares the scandal with the entire nation of Japan, causing doubt in the country's Number One Hero and the heroes at large. Without question, this does damage to Endeavor's status as the current Number One hero, but by extension, this could either hurt or help Shoto's chances at taking over the spot in the future.

Reveal of the Number One Heroes' Scandal

my hero academia season 6 dabi reveals in a tell-all

In Episode 11, titled "Dabi's Dance," the villain Dabi steps forward when he sees Endeavor and Shoto together. They recognize him as one of the League of Villains members, but he corrects them stating that he is, in fact, Toya Todoroki, Endeavor's firstborn son. As he tells his shocking story to the heroes on the battlefield, a video recording of his backstory is broadcasted across Japan and uploaded to the internet as well. Everyone listening to Toya is horrified to learn about Endeavor's hidden actions and intentions as Toya happily dances to the realization that he is destroying the peace between heroes and the public.

In the recorded video, Toya declares that Endeavor wished for power to surpass the former Number One Hero All Might and that led him to force an arranged marriage with a woman with an ice quirk. Since Endeavor gave up on trying to become the Number One Hero himself, the intention was to make a child with a perfectly balanced quirk of ice and fire to take over his dream of surpassing All Might. This future was forced onto Toya first, but passed down to Endeavor's youngest child Shoto, who perfectly balanced the ice and fire quirk. Toya expresses that he was seen as a failure, abandoned and forgotten as more children were brought into the family, ending with Shoto -- who he describes as "[Endeavor's] long awaited masterpiece." The physical and emotional abuse Endeavor caused Shoto and everyone else in the family is also revealed to the public. After calling his father "self-righteous and weak-willed," Toya adds doubt into the public's faith in heroes by adding the Number Two Hero, Hawk's murder of Twice, along with a hidden scandal from Hawk's background.

In just a few minutes, Toya manages to make the final strike to the heroes without even lifting a finger. His reveal certainly ruins Endeavor's image as well as his career on top of disrupting the peace and destroying the trust between heroes and the public, but because Shoto is in the limelight as a hero-in-training and is Endeavor's son as well, the scandal surely has an impact on his future too. While Endeavor will more than likely receive scrutiny and disdain for his own actions, Shoto's image is up for debate across civilians. Either he may be seen as a survivor of abuse or the masses will accuse him of being complacent with his father.

Shoto's Story Still Has To Be Told

From what the public learns about his side of the story, Shoto was a victim of Endeavor's abuse, which essentially is the truth. In this way, the public's opinion may be swayed to view him as a survivor who aims to become a great hero not to gain power or fame, but to wholeheartedly help others. This might be difficult since he maintains some resemblance of a relationship with Endeavor, even working at his father's hero agency, but if he works hard to help others as a hero and perhaps even makes a statement that he opposes Endeavor and his abuse, there may be a way to separate himself from his father and spare his reputation. However, given his difficulty with expressing his emotions and his awkward skills with handling public appearances, this may not go over well. It also depends on how much Shoto is willing to isolate himself from his father.

Though a story of triumph over public opinion would be inspiring, there's less chance for Shoto to succeed, at least at reaching the Number One spot as a hero for several reasons. While it's clear that Shoto is a victim too, as Toya explains, Shoto and Endeavor's close relationship is already recognized by the public. While they never put on any airs that their relationship was a wholly positive one, Shoto stuck close enough to his father, most notably taking the opportunity to work under him in his father's agency. Because of this, people may already think of Shoto as complacent or even an opportunist.

Of course, fans of My Hero Academia watching the anime unfold are well aware of the truth, that Shoto resented his father and only used opportunities as his son because he was making the best of his difficult situation. That being said, without that perspective, his relationship with Endeavor may appear vile without the right clarification. Shoto certainly has a complicated relationship with his father, and while there was the hope for forgiveness and redemption, now Shoto has to choose how he will respond to the masses.

As things stand, Shoto's hopes of becoming the Number One Hero or even a symbol of hope like All Might are in jeopardy. If there is a way Shoto can find the right words and sincerity to show the public his side of the story, then he can spare his reputation as a hero. In this way, he may still have a chance at becoming very successful in the profession, however, even if his reputation isn't tarnished by the association with his father, Shoto still has a lot of work ahead of him. To be fair, with how the scandalous reveal uproots the hero-led society, it might not matter whether the public view Shoto in a positive or negative light if the profession of heroes comes to an unfortunate end. As the drama reaches a boiling point and some heroes still holdfast to their virtues, there is the hope for a positive outcome.
