My Hero Academia is a popular shonen anime and manga franchise. The manga recently concluded the Paranormal Liberation War Arc, and the consequences were dire for both heroes and villains. The world of the heroes is taking a turn in a new direction, shaking the very foundation of society. Unfortunately, this change seems to be far from a good one.

The mastermind behind this chaos and widespread panic is a single villain named All For One. He is the primary antagonist of My Hero Academia, and the enemy of all One For All wielders. This terrifying man not only has an unknown number of quirks at his disposal, but is also believed to be immortal. He has been around ever since quirks first began appearing in the world over a century ago. Though it is speculated that maybe one of his quirks is responsible for his immortality, no such quirk exists. The secret behind his immorality remains a major mystery, though there may be some hints as to what this ability truly means.

A Glimpse of His Past

The arrival of supernatural abilities in a normal world led to a period of societal collapse and an age of upheaval. People started being born with unique powers and abnormal physical appearances as well. This caused them to be shunned by those who didn't have powers. The victims of ostracization went down the path of evil and started using their powers for revenge and to hurt innocent people. The man who stood at the pinnacle of all that chaos was All For One, who worked from the shadows.

He would take quirks from those who want to live a normal life and give them to others who want a taste of immense. He gathered those people, brainwashed them, and used them to his own advantage. With his quirk, he took the power of those who didn't need it and gave it to those who didn't have any. This way, he created an army for himself and set Japan on a path of destruction.

All For One believed that in those chaotic days, anyone could make up their own rules on how Quirks and society should mingle. All For One's ambitions were truly wicked. He reveals that his real goal is to use his power to thwart humanity's future, as it fits with the "Demon Lord" character he envisions himself as. He always ruled behind the shadows. Up until My Hero Academia Season 3, the world believed All For One to be a myth or an Urban Legend.

Kyudai's Relationship To All For One

My Hero Academia's Daruma Ujiko

During the time of society's upheaval, Kyudai Garaki, a genius scientist came up with the "Quirk Singularity" theory. He claimed that there will come a day when quirks will become so powerful that people will no longer be able to control them. Society scoffed at his claim and Kyudai completely disappeared from the public's eye. It was during this time when he first met All For One. All For One believed his claim and helped his cause. The two joined hands and have been working towards a single goal ever since.

Kyudai Garaki later adopted the name Daruma Ujiko, and is responsible for many heinous acts, including human experiments and assisting the league from the shadows. Kyudai healed All For One after his fight with All Might five years before the current timeline of the series. Kyudai also boosted Tomura Shigaraki's powers before the Paranormal Liberation War Arc and created all the nomus for the League of Villains.

Kyudai had a quirk called 'Life Force' which doubles the life span of the wielder. He gave his original quirk to All For One voluntarily, and kept the duplicate for himself. This is how they both have survived for over a hundred years. Therefore, unlike how the series hinted that All For One is immortal, the truth is that he merely has double the lifespan of an average human.

How Does Life Force Work?

Dr. Garaki's true old age shows itself in My Hero Academia.

Life Force isn't an all-powerful quirk, and its only use is to double the lifespan of the user. The aging process of the user is decreased as well. That is why the user looks much younger than they are. As of now, All For One is over a hundred years old, and Daruma Ujiko is well over 120. However, they both look half their real age. The only drawback is that this quirk drastically decreases the physical mobility of the user. Because of this, Daruma is especially weak in person, and can't defend himself against ordinary fighters.

However, All For One has managed to overcome the weakness caused by this quirk. The most justifiable reason is the massive number of powerful quirks at his disposal. Another weakness of this quirk is that it will easily lose its effect once it is canceled out. In the Paranormal Liberation Arc, when the heroes cornered Daruma in his secret base, Eraser Head used his quirk on him. Because of this, Daruma aged drastically and became incredibly weak as a result. Daruma was soon imprisoned after losing his powers.

Did All for One Purposely Make Others Believe That He Was Immortal?

All For One with his face in shadow in the My Hero Academia anime

All For One has always been a mysterious individual. Except for his subordinates and One For All wielders, no one knew about his existence. Those who heard about him never believed him to be real. Therefore, it can be said that All For One never purposely made others believe that he was immortal. He was strong enough on his own, so he never had the need to deceive others.

Nonetheless, One For All wielders know of his real age, and believe that he is in fact immortal. It is possible that series creator Kōhei Horikoshi hinted to fans about his immortality to make the major antagonist seem more terrifying. The fact that All For One survived after receiving multiple lethal injuries from All Might contributed to this theory. It was only in the Paramount Liberation Arc that the series revealed the truth behind All For One's Immortality.
