The hit show My Hero Academia is a series with a massive cast. Just look at all of the heroes and students at U.A., and you know exactly what we’re talking about here. Naturally, with that many characters, fans tend to have their favorites…as well as the characters they love to hate.

While there’s certainly plenty of variety out there in the fandom, there are certain characters who get a whole lot more love than others. And characters that get more hate (possibly more than they deserve, in some cases).

So with that in mind, here are 5 characters that every fan loves, and 5 characters who get too much hate.

10 Fan Favorite: Izuku Midoriya

Midoriya, aka Deku, is the leading perspective of this series. As such, he's pretty much a fan favorite. But it's more than that as well. Midoriya is a passionate and compassionate character. He truly cares about the well-being of his friends and would do anything for them.

He also desperately wants to be a hero, not just because he thinks All Might is cool, but because he respects the message being the Symbol of Peace. His determination is inspiring, and it's been delightful to watch him fight to make himself better.

9 Deserves Less Hate: Mei Hatsume

Mei Hatsume is a chaotic and admittedly slightly crazy character. But you've got to admit; she's a genius. We understand some of the criticisms her character gets – mainly that she's reckless, both with her own life and with the health and safety of those stuck trying her creations.

But we also think that Mei has the potential to grow into something so much more. If her inventions are anything to go by, she's going to become a huge advantage to the heroes someday. Especially if she can learn to reign in her excitement – just a little bit.

8 Fan Favorite: All Might

Another obvious fan favorite: All Might. How can you watch MHA and not adore this hero? He's the Symbol of Peace, and he saw something worth preserving in a schoolboy he met only once. There's something very sweet – and inspiring, in that.

All Might is a fun character. He provides comic relief at times, but can easily flip the switch to being insanely intense. Especially before he was forced to officially retire. He's also working hard at being a better teacher for the students at U.A., and that fact is incredibly sweet. No wonder fans love him so much.

7 Deserves Less Hate: Best Jeanist

Yeah, we get it. Best Jeanist's design is a bit silly. But you've got to admit, he's a strong and competent hero. Remember how he put himself at risk in order to save other heroes? (See the fight against All For One). That was seriously impressive and showed off all of the reasons why he's such a great hero.

Don't forget the time that he took Bakugo under his wing. He did that because he sincerely saw potential in Bakugo, while also being capable of acknowledging the boy's faults. He wanted to help him become better and did what he could for him.

6 Fan Favorite: Shoto Todoroki

My Hero Academia's Shoto Todoroki looking determined.

Todoroki is yet another obvious fan favorite here. He's badass and competent, with arguably one of the strongest quirks we've seen. He's tough and independent, but also has some issues that he's working through (a fact that Midoriya quickly spotted and addressed).

We can see why Todoroki is loved so much – and will happily jump on board that train. There's no doubt in our mind that someday Todoroki will surpass the legacy of his father and become something even greater.

5 Deserves Less Hate: Mina Ashido

Next up on our list of characters who deserve less hate is Mina Ashido. She's a fun and quirky character, one who is unafraid to simply be herself. Mina may not seem like your ideal hero, but we respect the fact that she wants nothing more than to do exactly that.

We strongly believe that Mina deserves a bit more love than she's getting. For one thing, she's fun and determined. For another, she inspired another hero in training to give it his all (Kirishima). And let's not forget her character's inspiration!

4 Fan Favorite: Katsuki Bakugo

Bakugo is a more complicated hero. Fans either love him or hate him. But for the most part, people seem to love him. There's nothing more interesting than a complicated character, and that certainly fits Bakugo.

He's a tough character with a powerful quirk. Sure, he's a bit rough around the edges, but there's no doubt that he's got the potential to become a great hero someday. We can see why people love him so much. Even if he does love screaming at Midoriya.

3 Deserves Less Hate: Tsuyu Asui

tsuyu from MHA

Tsuyu Asui, aka Froppy, is another character who could use a bit more love in her life. Her quirk and personality may result in her being easily overlooked, but that would be a mistake. Tsuyu has proven time and time again how dependable she truly is.

Tsuyu is a well-rounded character, being both intelligent and fully capable of understanding the limits of her quirk. We've seen her act as a support in more than one occasion, as she seems to be capable of adapting to complement whoever she is working with. That is an impressive trait to have, so we respect it.

2 Fan Favorite: Eraser Head

Next to All Might, Eraser Head, aka Aizawa is probably the most popular teacher at U.A. Though we certainly wouldn't mind seeing more of the others. Aizawa's quirk is extremely useful, as we've all seen. He's also competent at fighting and can take on more than one target at a given time.

He may act cold and aloof, but he's proven to us that he's utterly dedicated to those students. During the first real conflict in the series, he was willing to throw himself into the fray in order to ensure his student's safety. Despite his injuries, this is a trait he never let go of.

1 Deserves Less Hate: Present Mic

present mic is grinning in MHA

Conversely, there's Present Mic. He's Eraser Head's counterpart, and he can admittedly be a bit annoying at times. His quirk basically guarantees that he's going to be as loud and flashy as possible. But he's honestly a good guy – even if he can't take a hint all of the time.

He really does seem to care about the success of the students, though perhaps not to the same extent as Eraser Head. We've seen his quirk used to full effect one time thus far, and there's no doubt in our minds that it is a powerful one. Imagine it in use against a large group of antagonists – now that would be something.
