The story of My Hero Academia is a classic shonen scenario: the hopeful but downtrodden main lead, Izuku Midoriya, takes his first steps to becoming a hero, and he makes new allies and faces many terrifying villains along the way. Most people have superpowered quirks, and Tenya Iida is a boy with engines in his legs.

Like the Flash, Tenya Iida can run at great speed when his quirk is activated, and he can perform short bursts of incredible speed and power to deliver mighty kicks. Tenya Iida's maneuverability and kicking power make him an outstanding hero, and he could take on some characters from other series, too. But some others would prove too tough for this aspiring hero.

10 Can Defeat: Armin Arlert (Attack On Titan)

Armin smiling Attack on Titan

Excluding his newfound Colossal Titan form, that is. The anime has not yet shown what Armin is capable of in that form, so for now, his regular Scout skills will be considered. Armin completed basic training, but his real aptitude lays in analyzing a situation and creating a sound plan for victory.

But in person, Armin isn't much of a fighter. His constitution is rather frail, and he lacks Mikasa's and Levi's advanced skills. In a flash, Iida can race up to him and swing his foot down in a mighty kick atop Armin's head. This blond Scout is going down in record time.

9 Can't Defeat: Naofumi Iwatani (The Rising Of The Shield Hero)

Rise of the Sheld Hero Naofumi Iwatani Cropped

He is the designated shield-bearer of the Four Cardinal Heroes, and that's saying a lot, actually. Naofumi was summoned to another world to help fight off the Waves, and he rapidly added a lot of fancy, sturdy shields to his arsenal for just about any occasion.

This makes him something like Captain America, and he can conjure shields remotely to protect his allies. In a fight, Iida might land one blow on Naofumi at most before those shields come into play. Iida is fast and can kick, but his powers are no match for such defenses. He'll be forced to retreat.

8 Can Defeat: Okuyasu Nijimura (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

okuyasu nijimura yelling - jojo's bizarre adventure

Okuyasu Ninimura is a stand user from the Diamond is Unbreakable story arc, and his stand is a humanoid called The Hand. Its right hand can erase anything it touches, including space itself. It is a deadly stand if used correctly.

Tenya Iida cannot destroy The Hand; only another stand can destroy a stand. So, Iida will use his engine powers to rush past Okuyasu's defenses, then ignore The Hand and attack Okuyasu directly. This boy has no martial arts skills; he won't last more than a few seconds against a trained hero like Iida.

7 Can't Defeat: Wrath (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

wrath vs greed

Wrath may look like an ordinary man, but he is no such thing. As a younger man, he had a Philosopher's Stone implanted into him, which transformed him into a battle-loving homunculus. He has the Ultimate Eye, allowing him to see any attack coming, no matter how quick or unpredictable.

In addition, Wrath uses two sabers with incredible skill, and he is absolutely merciless on the battlefield. Unfortunately for Iida, Recipro Burst is easy for the Ultimate Eye to see, and Wrath's quick blades will chop him into bits.

6 Can Defeat: Kotaro Amon (Tokyo Ghoul)

Kotaro Amon is a consummate professional, a  ghoul hunter with a fierce desire to bring peace to the streets and protect the citizens from rampaging ghouls. He wields a quinque that's shaped like a spear and club combined into one.

While Kotaro is rather skilled at handling ghouls, he's not ready for the likes of Tenya Iida, who is well trained and has supernatural speed on his side. Ken and Touka are quick on the battlefield, but Tenya Iida is something else entirely. A few hard kicks will put Kotaro down.

5 Can't Defeat: Itachi Uchiha (Naruto)

Itachi Uchiha of the Akatsuki Meeting With Naruto Uzumaki in Naruto: Shippuden

This ninja was a terrifying villain at first, until his sympathetic backstory was revealed. But what didn't change was Itachi's highly advanced set of skills. His Sharingan eye allows him to see and avoid enemy moves and ninutsu alike, and he can return fire with fireballs, explosives clones, the Tsukuyomi and much more.

If Iida challenged him, then he'd end up hitting a clone duplicate, and from there, Itachi could lock eyes with his heroic opponent and trap him in a horrifying genjutsu. At this point, Iida is helpless, and Itachi could finish him at leisure (or just leave, if he's feeling merciful).

4 Asami Sato (The Legend Of Korra)

asami sato legend of korra

Asami Sato may not be a bender, but she can still defend herself. Her father, Hiroshi Sato, took care to teach her self-defense and artial arts, and this has paid off more than once. Asami can also don an Equalist glove to zap her opponents with a touch.

That's impressive, but it's a far cry from what Tenya Iida is capable of. His quirk is on par with any bending style, and he could rush right at Asami and deliver a blow before she can martial any defenses. Up close, Iida's quick moves and kicking style can finish Asami without much trouble.

3 Can't Defeat: Erza Scarlet (Fairy Tail)

Erza ataraxia armor

Erza is a battle maiden of the highest order, and she holds the rank of S to prove it. Her magic allows her to obtain battle armor suits and swords from another dimension, and equip them in a flash. She also has a great deal of natural strength and endurance.

All that means Erza's defenses are simply too tough for Iida to breach with his speedy kicks. And unlike Naofumi Iwatani, Erza also has a great deal of offensive power with her many swords. She can even make swords rain from the sky.

2 Can Defeat: Princess Hibana (Fire Force)

fire force captain hibana

This woman is a fire captain and a third generation pyrokinetic. She can conjure flower-shaped fireballs with her fan for offensive power, and she can also raise the temperature of her enemy to paralyze them via heat syncope (meaning their muscles become relaxed).

The problem: Princess Hibana is more of a commander than a fighter, and her endurance and battlefield experience are both limited. She works best when other fire soldiers can back her up; alone, she stands no chance against a fast, tough and experienced hero like Iida. He'd get in close and knock her out with a kick before any of her advanced pyrokinetics entered the picture.

1 Can't Defeat: Yoruichi Shihoin (Bleach)

Yoruichi in Bleach

Yoruichi is a noblewoman, but she's not the type to sit on a throne and boss people around. Instead, she's easygoing and loves to make friends, and tease them all day long. But she's also an expert fighter, and when she gets serious, few people can stand in her way.

She is a martial arts master, able to use the flash step to an incredibly advanced degree. Yoruichi outclasses Tenya Iida in his specialty, and she has advantages beyond that, such as Shunko and knowledge of kido spells. Clearly, Iida has no route to victory in this fight.
