In the hit anime My Hero Academia, we are thrust into a world of superpowered quirks, and UA is Japan's top schools where adolescents learn to master their quirks and train to become superheroes. Protagonist Izuku Midoriya has many classmates with diverse powers, and a standout is Shoto Todoroki.

Shoto and Momo both got into UA through recommendations, and their quirks are among the most powerful of their generation. For his part, Shoto can conjure intense flames on the left half of his body, and create huge amounts of ice with the right side. It's effectively two quirks in one, and Shoto doesn't hesitate to decimate his enemies. So, who are five anime characters whom he could best in battle, and which would put him down for good? Let's find out.

10 Can defeat: Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

Edward is a clever alchemist and a good martial artist, which means he has few blind spots in battle. He can even fight on par with highly-trained bodyguards and assassins, and survive encounters with chimeras and homunculi.

But Ed never faced the ice/fire combo that Shoto is packing, and there's only so much Ed can do to keep up, even with alchemy-based barriers and projectiles. We can imagine these guys striking even, but Shoto's heavy attack power would breakthrough Ed's defenses sooner or later, and impale him on ice. Or burn him to cinders, even.

9 Can't defeat: Soi Fon (Bleach)

Soi Fan from Bleach

Fans of Tite Kubo's Bleach know exactly what kind of terrifying power this petite woman is packing! Soi Fon, a Soul Reaper, can wield a metal stinger on her middle finger like a glove, and if she can pierce someone's body twice in the same spot, then they drop dead. Just like that.

Soi Fon doesn't often do this, but she could give Shoto a deadly demonstration if they ever clashed. With her advanced ninja training, Soi Fon could evade whatever fire or ice attacks Shoto could muster, get behind him, and deliver that double-tap of death.

8 Can defeat: Eren Jaeger (Attack on Titan)

The hero of Attack on Titan, Eren has only mediocre combat skills as a soldier, and fortunately for him, he has more weapons than ODM gear and those paring blades. He can become the Attack Titan, a massive melee master!

No doubt this would give Shoto a run for his money, with sheer strength and size and combat intuition. Still, Shoto can make ice, which will trap the Titan and keep it in place for a few precious seconds. And sooner or later, Shoto will find Eren's weak spot  (nape of the neck) and dig in with some ice. Then it's all over.

7 Can't defeat: Genos (One-Punch Man)

Half machine, half man, all strength! Genos made waves when he was accepted as a pro hero in his own franchise... at rank S, the highest tier. He skipped C, B, and A just like that, and for a good reason.

His body is very tough and has all kinds of devastating weapons on board, and these would allow Genos to fight on par with Shoto's fire and ice to wear him down. That, or Shoto would make one small mistake, and Genos' sensors would spot an opening and take it.

6 Can defeat: Naofumi Iwatani (The Rising of the Shield Hero)

Like many other characters on this list, Naofumi is a main protagonist, and he counters his lack of weapons with his advanced shields and party members. He can block or deflect just about anything, and Raphtalia and Filo can provide fire support.

Naofumi's defenses can only last so long, however, and if Shoto is quick and clever, he could strike Naofumi from behind with some ice. We can picture Shoto taking up Naofumi's attention with a frontal fire attack, then stabbing him with ice from behind where he's vulnerable. If Naofumi tried to make another move after that, well... Shoto would have no mercy.

5 Can't defeat: Naruto Uzumaki (Naruto)

Naruto fox cloak sage

Here's another protagonist, but this time, Shoto is going down. Naruto Uzumaki started his career as a "knuckle-headed ninja," as Kakashi Hatake put it, but Naruto is no joke. He's stubborn and tough, and he has learned a whole grab bag of jutsus and has the Demon Fox to back all that up.

Shadow clones won't win the day against Shoto, but a clever combo move will take Shoto by surprise and knock him right out. Anything from toad sage backup to a well-placed Rasengan or the Biju Cloak will get the job done. Naruto's a ninja, after all. He's too slippery for Shoto to handle.

4 Can defeat: Josuke Higashikata (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

This is the fourth protagonist of the series, a good-hearted punk with a humanoid stand named Crazy Diamond. It can deliver devastating melee attacks and heal damaged items or wounded flesh, excepting Josuke's own body.

This isn't going to cut it against Shoto, though. Josuke is more used to stand-vs-stand battles, and Shoto isn't going to play by those rules. Yes, Crazy Diamond's fists could shatter ice with ease, but Shoto just needs to land a few hits on Josuke directly to win the day. What good are Crazy Diamond's fists if Shoto skewers Josuke with a surprise icicle? Or a fireball?

3 Can't defeat: Rimuru Tempest (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime)

Don't be surprised by that little slime body. Rimuru Tempest is creative and open to new ideas, and his Predator skill allows him to gobble up just about anything or anyone and gain their powers. Like Naruto, he's got a whole range of techniques at his disposal.

In fact, that skill list is even more diverse than Naruto's, from devastating black flames to steely spider webs to lightning and water attacks, just to name a few. And they're all very powerful! This would result in a battle of attrition that Shoto is bound to lose.

2 Can defeat: Inosuke (Demon Slayer)

Poor Inosuke. He wants so badly to prove that he's the toughest fighter around, and his combat skills are quite something, especially now that he's gotten some extra training done (near the end of season 1).

Still, two jagged swords, speed, and brute strength won't match up well against Shoto's fire/ice combo. Shoto would dictate the terms of the battle from afar, and either roast his demon slayer opponent, or freeze him in place and stab him to death with icicles. And there's hardly a thing Inosuke could do to stop him.

1 Can't defeat: Princess Hibana (Fire Force)

princess hibana fire force

True, Princess Hibana only controls fire, whereas Shoto can use both fire and ice. But that's not going to save him when he's up against the deadly beauty Princess Hibana. She is a third generation pyrokinetic, able to conjure flames shaped like flowers and petals.

Shoto can give it his all, and if he's lucky, he can knock her out, since her endurance is limited. But if Hibana can survive the initial blow, which she probably can, then she will take over. She can easily melt Shoto's ice, and cool off his flames to launch a counter-attack. She will then wrap up Shoto's body in heat and inflict heat syncope on him, which will incapacitate him just like that. Winner: Princess Hibana!
