In the hit superhero anime series My Hero Academia, we meet Izuku Midoriya as he uses his new quirk, One For All, to train and become a proper hero. He aims to eventually replace All Might, the Symbol of Peace, and we're all cheering him on.

However, Izuku is not the only promising student at UA! This is Japan's top heroics school, and a certain senior citizen is poised to become one of the most powerful heroes of all: Mirio Togata. As far as we've seen, he's the most powerful of UA's fabled "Big Three," and he took down almost everyone in class 1-A alone during a sparring match. What else should we know about this hero in training?

10 He Mastered An Unimpressive Quirk

Do you remember the end of season 3 when Mirio single-handedly beat down every student in class 1-A, minus Shoto and Bakugo? The students were sure that Mirio was packing the mother of all quirks, but, no. By itself, Mirio's permeation quirk is... really bad!

So, Mirio soon fell to the bottom of his class, but he didn't stay there. He figured out a better way to use permeation and combined it with incredible physical power to make him the all-star he is today.

9 He Uses Experience To Fight

To continue the first point, Mirio worked very hard to make his awkward quirk into one that's battle-worthy. Not only is this teenager in top physical form, but he also relies on a vast amount of first-hand experience on the job. There's no substitute for the real thing, as Mirio would tell you.

All of this added up fast, and Mirio can easily calculate where he should sink into the ground and pop back up to launch attacks from unexpected angles. He can also predict his opponents' moves to evade them and throw his enemies off-guard. He's always one step ahead thanks to all that battlefield experience pounded into his brain.

8 POWER!

Mirio wasn't just goofing off when he shouted "POWER!" a few times during his 18-vs-1 battle with class 1-A. He can back it up 100%, and Amajiki thinks that Mirio ought to learn to hold back a bit.

Combining his now-useful quirk, battle intuition, and incredible melee power, it's easy to see that Mirio is poised to become a top-rate hero. In fact, according to Aizawa, Mirio is near the top of not just UA, but all heroes! This means that even the likes of Endeavor, Best Jeanist, and Hawks are not very far ahead of him in sheer combat ability, if at all.

7 He's Radiant

Mirio's classmates include Nejire Hado and Tamaki Amajiki, who were Mirio's friends from before their UA days. But, why does Amajiki, a shy boy with food-based powers, call himself Suneater? What an odd name.

In elementary school, Amajiki thought that Mirio was radiant and warm like the sun, and he was in awe. He even felt inferior, but Mirio helped uplift him with encouraging words. So, now Amajiki calls himself Suneater to show that he can eclipse the sun in sheer power. Thanks to Mirio, that self-doubt is a thing of the past.

6 He Almost Became The Next Symbol Of Peace

What do Izuku and Mirio have in common? Several things. Both boys are melee heroes who started from nothing, and they have boundless optimism and sheer grit to see them through any hardship. They both look up to All Might a great deal.

But there's one more thing: Mirio almost inherited One For All! That's right, if it weren't for Izuku's moment of heroics against the slime monster, All Might probably would have passed on his legendary quirk to the muscle-bound boy genius Mirio Togata. What a thing to imagine!

5 He Always Looks On The Bright Side Of Things

By now, you're probably getting the impression that Mirio is a pretty great guy—and you'd be right! We've only known him for a short time so far, but Mirio Togata has proven himself a person of outstanding character as well as combat power.

He sees the best in himself and others, and he's quick to uplift others with some kind and earnest words. He eagerly introduced Izuku to Sir Nighteye to help the younger student along, and never have we seen Mirio tease or bully anyone, or neglect anyone in need.

4 He has a strong sense of guilt

Hang on. Maybe there was one person Mirio neglected: Eri. When he and Izuku were on patrol, they ran into Eri, who was fleeing Overhaul through an alleyway. A tense scene ensued, and ultimately, the abused Eri was escorted away, her hand clasped in Overhaul's.

It didn't take long for both Mirio and Izuku to fully realize what just happened, and they were in anguish knowing that they didn't rescue that girl when the opportunity presented itself. Now, they swear to rescue Eri this time, and as of this writing, the rescue mission is underway. Will Mirio and Izuku set things right this time? We'll have to wait and see!

3 His Familiar Face

Does that mug look familiar? But we just met this guy! Well, it may or may not be on purpose, but Mirio looks rather similar to a few other fictional characters we've met.

How about the Vault Boy of the popular Fallout games, with his charming blond hair and dot eyes? Or perhaps Mirio reminds you of Lucas, from the Super Smash Bros. games and his native Earthbound game franchise? You never forget a face like that!

2 He Can't See A Thing While He's Using His Quirk

Mirio's quirk is difficult to use correctly, and we learn this when he lectures class 1-A about the finer points of its use. Mirio has to rapidly shift between solid state and permeation state for different parts of his body, so he can move the way he does.

Just walking through a wall requires multiple steps, and Mirio can't see, hear, or even breathe while intangible since all particles go through him. That's pretty scary, and he has to rely on planning, quick thinking, and intuition to navigate the battlefield in such conditions.

1 His Costume And Name

All heroes need a unique costume and name, and Mirio ha dubbed himself "Lemillion." Why? His noble goal is to rescue one million people in need, and thus the name "le million." He even has that number stitches onto his costume as a constant reminder.

His costume looks fairly typical, but there's a trick to it: its fibers are made from Mirio's own hair, meaning it can phase along with his body while his quirk activates. As we saw in the class 1-A sparring match, regular clothes are left behind when he phases around, and he ended up fighting in the nude—but his costume is a different story.
