Marin Kitagawa comes to life in a new My Dress-Up Darling cosplay.

The incredibly accurate take on the character was created by cosplayer Eli, who is known by the screen name assuka66 on Instagram. In the series, Marin is a young woman who dreams of cosplaying all of her favorite anime and video game characters, so she would probably be flattered to have someone cosplay as her. While Marin wears a variety of wildly different costumes throughout the series, the cosplayer portrays her in her standard, everyday school uniform.

More of Eli's cosplay can be viewed on her Instagram profile. In addition to cosplaying a cosplayer, she has portrayed a variety of characters from other anime series, including Suma, one of the Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui's three wives from Demon Slayer, and Mikasa Ackerman, the titan-slaying warrior from Attack on Titan.

My Dress-Up Darling tells the story of Wakana Gojo, a timid high school student who has dedicated his life to creating clothing for Hina figures, which are traditional Japanese ornamental dolls that are often used as part of the celebrations surrounding certain holidays. Due to a past rejection, Gojo is terrified of his peers discovering what his hobby is, at least until he meets Marin Kitagawa, a popular girl who isn't shy about sharing her obsessive love of video games, anime and manga. The two grow close after Marin pushes a reluctant Gojo into helping her create her first cosplay costume.

The series was originally created by writer and artist Shinichi Fukuda. The manga premiered in Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine in 2018. An anime series based on Fukuda's work debuted on Jan. 9 and was produced by CloverWorks, the animation studio behind Wonder Egg Priority and the controversial animated adaptation of The Promised Neverland. The anime was directed by Keisuke Shinohara, who previously worked on Little Witch Academia and Devilman Crybaby. The series stars Shoya Ishige (Godzilla Singularity Point, Haikyuu!!) as Gojo and Hina Suguta (Bang Dream! Garupa Pico: Omori) as Marin. The series has already become one of the most popular anime of the winter 2022 season, and has been praised for its comedy and the characters' rejection of societal expectations, but has also received some criticism for the show's copious fan-service.

My Dress-Up Darling is currently being simulcast by Crunchyroll and Funimation, with new episodes premiering every Sunday. The original manga is available in English, in both print and digital formats, from publisher Square Enix.
