One year following its initial release on Amazon and iTunes, director Anthony Desiato's documentary My Comic Shop Country has found yet another platform: the documentary streaming site CuriosityStream.

My Comic Shop Country follows Desiato as he "sets out on a quest to explore the culture, business and fandom of comic shops across America," revealing "an industry in transition as shops strive to remain relevant to the growing hordes of fans of movies, online gaming and mega-conventions." According to Desiato, the shops featured in the documentary have already seen increased business in the year since its initial release.

"I keep hearing from retailers who appeared in the movie about instances of the doc driving new customers to their shops," the filmmaker told CBR. "Sometimes, they're buying specific things for themselves; other times, they're just paying a set amount and asking for a dealer's choice assortment. I've even heard of some people not asking for anything, but rather encouraging the shop to give out gift certificates. It's a testament to the retailers and the impression they made on viewers -- who, in turn, continue to astound with their kindness and generosity."

While My Comic Shop Country is still available on Amazon and iTunes, Desiato -- who recently launched two new podcasts, Digging for Kryptonite and My Comic Shop Book Club -- hopes the film's addition to CuriosityStream will help it reach even more viewers. "One thing I'm especially happy about is that Curiosity Stream has a global reach, so folks in certain other countries have a greater opportunity to see the doc now," he said. "I even had someone from Malaysia reach out after watching! It's immensely gratifying for this little movie about America's comic shops to resonate in other parts of the world."
