The late Christopher Reeves' performance as the Man of Steel in four films inspired the romantic-comedy take on Clark Kent's life in the upcoming animated series My Adventures With Superman, says a WarnerMedia executive.

Tom Ascheim, president of Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults and Classics, noted in his keynote talk at the TV Kids Summer Festival that there have been "many versions of Superman over the years," and Warners has added more. My Adventures with Superman, however, focuses on Clark Kent and best friends Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen at a particular stage in their lives, he said.

Ascheim said, "This one is sort of taking as its inspiration the movie from the Christopher Reeve stories, so it's kind of a romantic comedy and Lois and Clark, and Jimmy, are just recent college graduates. They're at the Daily Planet. They're going through the life stuff that you go through when you're in your early 20s. But there's a lot of -- It's a romance, you know, in addition to being a superhero story. In our version, Clark is new to his powers, so it's also a, it's a coming of age story for all of them."

Ascheim said My Adventures with Superman has shown bigger appeal than anticipated. "That piece of animation tested better with girls than any animation we've done in a really long time," he said.

Reeve, who died in 2004, starred as the title character in 1978's Superman and three sequels. He also guest-starred on Smallville as Dr. Virgil Swann, a mentor to young Clark Kent.

A release date for My Adventures With Superman has yet to be announced, but the series received a two-season order at HBO Max and Cartoon Network.
