Towards the late 1980’s, the New Mutants began to mature. The kids who were growing up with Professor Charles Xavier as their mentor to be future X-Men would wind up under the tutelage of the stern tactician and taskmaster from the future, Cable. Rechristened as the X-Force, the team was created Rob Liefeld they became like Cable, more hardened and more militaristic branch of the no-so merry mutants. With a total of eleven X-movies out there and several more on the horizon, including the horror-themed New Mutants movie (due in 2019), mutants are poised to rule the box office next year, sans a certain Avengers sequel. Now that Disney has their cinematic mutants back and Kevin Feige is overseeing any future X-movies, it's clear the Mouse House has big plans for the next set of upcoming Marvel movies.

With the success of Deadpool 2, it's only a matter of time before X-Force is actually a reality and not a bunch of goofballs for sight gags. Although fans have loved and appreciated the humor that the Deadpool films have brought them, it's time for some mutants we have never really seen or worked with before to make their way to the big screen so we can all enjoy some incredible special effects and amazing storylines. With a film currently in the works, fans are excited to think about the mutants that might make an appearance! Here are 20 Mutants We Would Love To See In The X-Force Movie (And 5 That Are Guaranteed).

25 GUARANTEED - CANNONBALL

Cannonball 80s

When the New Mutants debuted, one of the stalwarts of the team was Samuel Guthrie, aka Cannonball. Like fellow leader type of X-Men, (i.e. Havok) he sometimes doubts his leadership skills and sometimes is a little scared of just how powerful he is. As a supposed External (a sub-section race of seemingly Immortal Mutants), it's easy to see why.

His jet-propulsion powers encase him in a force field and allow him to travel at jet-speed. Fans will finally get to see the popular mutant in next year’s New Mutants played by Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton. With Sam being such an integral part to the team in the comics, it's just a question whether Heston will play the role in both upcoming films or not.

24 GUARANTEED - CABLE

Josh Brolin as Cable in Deadpool 2

Of course, Cable’s guaranteed to be a part of the X-Force team, as he is the team’s leader! He also has one of the most interesting back stories of any comic book character ever. It's way too much to work out here for one entry, but it would make for some awesome movies. Or at least, parts of an X-Force film.

The character was introduced in Deadpool 2, with Josh Brolin delievered a performance that had people raving. The only question is will Marvel let Josh Brolin continue to play both Cable and Thanos now that Disney has all of the characters again.

23 GUARANTEED - STRYFE

Stryfe

No matter if Josh Brolin gets to keep playing Cable or not, whoever is playing him will also get to play his clone, Stryfe. As far as the comics go, Stryfe has all of Cable’s strengths and none of the weaknesses that Cable’s telekinesis and cybernetic enhancements have been keeping at bay. He also leads his own group of mutants - the Mutant Liberation Front.

While the X-Force has had its fair share of villains, starting the franchise off with anyone besides Stryfe would just be ridiculous. He's the complete literal polar opposite of Cable. And he has been a big-time foil for the entire X-Universe for years.

22 GUARANTEED - DOMINO

Domino Deadpool 2 Zazie Beetz

Portrayed in Deadpool 2 by Zazie Beetz, Domino was a scene-stealer in the movie. Showing off her powers of luck was akin to showing off Quicksilver’s speed. It became one of the centerpieces of the movie. The character was much like the rest of the characters in the movie. She was a wise cradling woman and full of sass.

While not seen in the film, Dom is actually Cable’s right-hand woman, confidante, and occasional lover. Depicted as much more serious and militaristic, this version of Domino is one of X-Force’s leaders when Cable heads off on side missions.

21 GUARANTEED - WOLFSBANE

Wolfsbane

If there’s going to be a love triangle for the X-Force movies (not that there needs to be), then it should involve Wolfsbane. There was a time when Rahne Sinclair and Rictor were a thing. Rahne is a Scotswoman and has served on several different X-teams throughout the years. She can turn into a werewolf but has to do her best to keep the wild woman at bay.

Being played by Maisie Williams (Game Of Thrones) in The New Mutants, Wolfsbane is sure to become a breakout mainstream character. She’s certainly a lock for being part of an X-Force movie.

20 GUARANTEED - DEADPOOL

Of course, Deadpool needs to be a part of an X-Force movie. He’s the new face of the X-Franchise with Hugh Jackman retired from playing Wolverine. To include him, the creative team will need to figure out how to have Ryan Reynolds not completely bogart the proceedings, while still in the film enough to get people laughing and please the fans.

Deadpool would have to be a supporting player in a team-up movie. If the creative team could pull off that tightrope walk, then DP will fit right in and firmly establish himself as part of the team.

19 LOVE TO SEE - SUNSPOT

Sunspot USAvengers

Iron Man has money and means for the Avengers. Professor X has money and means for the X-Men. While X-Force is a little more ragtag than those other two teams, they could have some funds too. Roberto de Costa, the Brazilian mutant Sunspot, comes from self-made family money.

He's being played by Henry Zaga in The New Mutants. It definitely stands to reason he'll be a part of the X-Force movie. If done right, his solar flare powers will be awesome to see. Plus, his inclusion makes for an easy gateway to two X-Force antagonists - Gideon and Reignfire.

18 LOVE TO SEE - WARPATH

X-Men Days of Future Past Warpath

One of the coolest aspects of the mutant universe is that the X-Gene doesn't discriminate. When James Proudstar took up his fallen brother’s mantle of Thunderbird, he fought the team at first. He realized the error of his ways and eventually was recruited by Cable to join X-Force.

Warpath was played by BooBoo Stewart in Days Of Future Past, but that wasn't a true portrayal of the character. He was barely seen. As one of the anchors of the team, Warpath can really cut loose in a featured role.

17 LOVE TO SEE - SHATTERSTAR

As another character wasted in Deadpool 2, Shatterstar is another mutant with a wild backstory. He is a time and dimensional traveler from Mojoworld. That would certainly open up the X-Universe and soon the entire MCU to all kinds of insanity. As a skilled swordsman, his action scenes could be some of the best of the movie.

Created during the early days of the team, including Shatterstar should be a no-brainer, but he'd be a bonus for the first movie. With so much going on, Shatterstar would be better suited to a sequel. His inclusion would still be a sweet bonus.

16 LOVE TO SEE - MIRAGE

Mirage Dani Moonstar New Mutants Blu Hunt

If you're looking for an easy and organic way to bridge the gap between the MCU and all of the incoming mutants, Danielle Moonstar might be the ticket in. At one point in the character’s history, she had adventures in Asgard and unknowingly became a Valkyrie. Her ability to create illusions of her opponent's fears or wishes would make for some crazy action sequences.

Dani also joined up with SHIELD and infiltrated the Mutant Liberation Front. Blu Hunt, previously apart of The Originals is playing Dani in The New Mutants, so she'll already be a part of the universe once Marvel/Disney takes the reigns fully.

15 LOVE TO SEE - MAGIK

Magik holding her hand towards the reader while using her powers in Marvel Comics

If Magik’s real name Illyana Rasputin sounds familiar, it's because she's Colossus’ younger sister. But instead of turning into indestructible metal, Illyana is a teleporter. Not to mention a sorceress, so all kinds of craziness is bound to go down with her. Thanks to comic book hocus-pocus, she was trained across dimensions and realms. All at an early age to be a great sorceress.

Hopefully, the mystical sword-wielding mutant will be played absolutely perfectly by Anya Taylor-Joy in The New Mutants. While all of these characters need to be adapted perfectly; if Magik is done right, she can have a franchise all to herself. It would be an entirely different avenue that Marvel has yet to venture down.

14 LOVE TO SEE - DOOP

Doop became popular in the comics during a time when X-Force became the X-Statix. They were a parody team and the little globule, Doop was their mascot of sorts. The X-Static were media darlings both in and out of the pages, and Doop was their cameraman. The little government experiment also has all kinds of powers.

We now live in a world where a foul-mouthed raccoon and his pet tree are two of the most beloved MCU. Doop would undoubtedly be another strange creature that wins mainstream hearts over. Although Doop might have to wait until a sequel, the little guy will take over the MCU the same way Rocket and Groot did.

13 LOVE TO SEE - JUBILEE

Jubilee

As one of the featured X-Men of the nineties, Jubilee was a brash mallrat. She was able to create fireworks. She was one of the de-powered mutants, then a vampire. Now she's a mutant again. That's a story for another day. As far as the movies and the classic cartoon goes, Jubilee is the cheery and bratty teen fans came to know and love.

Jubilee is another popular mutant who got little, or rather, no love in the movies. So the studios might as well use her where she'd be effective, with a group of other young superheroes. She was played by Lana Condor in Apocalypse, so it stands to reason to have her reprise the role. She could show what off what she really could do.

12 LOVE TO SEE - FANTOMEX

Fantomex Bachalo

While just about all of the X-Men’s movie costumes are black and yellow leather, Fantomex’s all-white getup would look awesome on camera. With ties to the Weapon-Plus program, Fantomex was created to be a super-soldier in the coming Mutant-Human war. The expert marksman and telepath is rife for a cinematic debut.

Almost like a serious analog of the wise-cracking Deadpool, Fantomex joined up with X-Force in the comics to help them kill a reborn Apocalypse. The film version would have to include the guy’s strange mutation of having three brains.

11 LOVE TO SEE - DEAD GIRL

Not every character in the movie needs to have their own origins explained, but Dead Girl’s would be a cool twist. Her powers manifested after she had passed away, and her power allowed her to be someone who could walk between worlds. In the comics that put her right in the middle of an adventure with Dr. Strange.

She was a member of the X-Statix, but Dead Girl might not be the most well-known member of the team but thankfully, that's what sequels are for. Besides, at least one character is certainly bound to make a comment when DG starts controlling severed appendages.

10 LOVE TO SEE - X-23

logan x-23 laura

In Logan the world at large was introduced to Wolverine’s clone daughter, Laura. In the field, she's known as X-23, and she's one of the more popular mutants created this millennium. With Hugh Jackman done playing Wolverine, it might be time for the capable Dafne Keen to take center stage.

With so many established stars and characters running around, X-23 already has the fan following to be that rock. Plus, Keen is still young enough that she'd be able to stick around and be part of a lot more features for as long as she chooses.

9 LOVE TO SEE - RICTOR

rictor x-force

A mutant who can create earthquakes would be really useful in certain plots and in special effects. Rictor and Shatterstar are also one of the first couples in Marvel that features two boys in love. Whether the film takes that route or not, having a progressive character like Rictor would be really cool.

Jason Genao played a younger version of Rictor in Logan and helped lead the other x-kids to freedom. Between his powers and several relationships, the creative team could have a field day with Rictor during the proceedings.

8 LOVE TO SEE - BEDLAM

As a mutant who has the ability to project EMP blasts, he'd be a perfect fit for Cable’s war. The militaristic X-Force could use a guy like Bedlam. Too bad he was smashed by a bus during Deadpool 2. But didn't Wade go back in time during the credits of DP2? In either event, action star Terry Crews and Bedlam could always make a comeback.

Bedlam would also serve as a window to some of Xavier’s more clandestine operations. He was once part of the Mutant Underground Support Engine. The same MU that is on the show Gifted.

7 LOVE TO SEE - BOOM-BOOM

Boom Boom X-Men Evolution

A woman of many code names, Tabitha Smith’s most well-known is Boom-Boom. She was Sam Guthrie’s girlfriend during the early years of X-Force. With the ability to create psionic bombs, special effects teams would have a field day with her. While not a part of The New Mutants cast, she should be a part of an X-Force movie.

She’d fit right in with Domino, as another rebellious punk with a mouth. Plus, when the chips are down, the film is going to need a massive explosion that only Boomer can provide.

6 LOVE TO SEE - PSYLOCKE

Fans finally got to see Betsy Braddock on the big screen in the form of Olivia Munn. In Apocalypse, it seemed like the perfect marriage of geek girl fantasy actress playing geek girl fantasy superhero. Sadly, like a lot of popular characters she was included as a fan service, but wasted.

Thanks to the nineties that definitely felt the need to serve the male audience, Psylocke and her scantily clad ninja outfit became one of the most popular parts of the era. But she’s also a fierce warrior-woman who wields a psionic blade. She served as part of Wolverine’s super-secret infiltration version of X-Force.
