Rob Zombie's reboot of The Munsters will reportedly arrive on Peacock the same day it releases in theaters.

Last month, Murphy's Multiverse reported that Zombie was working on a film adaptation of 1964's The Munsters, which ran for two seasons on CBS. Zombie is reportedly a huge fan of the series and has cast wife Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster and fellow long-time collaborator Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster. Rounding out the reported cast are Dan Roebuck, Jorge Garcia and Richard Brake, while Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson joining in a supporting role. Now, word has emerged that the film will debut on Peacock and in theaters simultaneously.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that the new movie will arrive on NBCUniversal's Peacock streaming service day and date with the theatrical release, mirroring HBO Max's 2021 film plans and Disney's upcoming Black Widow and Cruella strategy. The budget for the project will reportedly be around $30-40 million, giving it a relatively low bar to clear at the box office and making it a safe bet for drawing people to the new streaming service as it seeks to compete with Disney+, Netflix and others. According to the original report, the film will begin filming next month in Budapest.

This isn't the first time a revival of the cult classic series has been attempted. After being canceled two seasons in, the show eventually found a following thanks to reruns airing on Nick At Night. Back in 2012, NBC, which now owns the rights to the series and characters, attempted to launch a new series called Mockingbird Lane, based on the family's street name. Developed by Bryan Fuller the year before Hannibal debuted, a pilot starring Jerry O'Connell, Portia de Rossi and Eddie Izzard was released, but the network ultimately passed on it.

In 2017, Seth Meyers and Jill Kargman attempted their own TV reboot, this time moving the family to Brooklyn. That project ultimately went nowhere.

Zombie has made a name for himself over the years as a horror writer and director after spending years primarily making music. His films House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects along with his reboot of Halloween have received acclaim from fans and critics alike. His latest film, 3 From Hell, stars Sheri Moon Zombie and was released in 2019. Though his films involve plenty of camp, The Munsters could mark his first venture into pure comedy.

Both seasons of the original Munsters are streaming now on Peacock.
