Warner Bros. and Player First Games unveiled the cinematic trailer for the upcoming fighting game MultiVersus.
The trailer features a plethora of characters pulled from a variety of intellectual properties as they duke it out in a strange location. As Batman is pulled through a multiversal portal, he finds himself paired up with Scooby-Doo's Shaggy, who unleashes his full rage against Bugs Bunny and Arya Stark from Game of Thrones. As the brawl spirals out of control, fans are treated to appearances from several other characters, including Jake (Adventure Time), Garnet (Steven Universe) and Superman. The trailer also confirms two new playable MultiVersus fighters: The Tasmanian Devil and The Iron Giant, adorned with his own Superman crest.
Developed by Player First Games, MultiVersus is a platform fighter that will see gamers assume the role of their favorite Warner Bros. characters in 2v2 matches. Similar to the format popularized by Super Smash Bros., players must try and knock their opponents out of the ring by dealing damage using a variety of moves. The more hits a character takes, the easier it becomes to knock them flying.
MultiVersus is placing more emphasis on cooperative matches as players will need to work together with their partner to realize the unique synergies forged between fighters. The characters will boast customizable movesets that will allow gamers to create their own strategies on the fly and adapt to better suit their team composition. "From Wonder Woman and her Lasso of Truth attack being unexpectedly paired with Shaggy and his sandwich projectile, to Arya Stark’s face-swapping ability being used to complement Superman’s laser vision, the impossible can become possible through surprising team combinations and matchups," reads the official description provided by Warner Bros. MultiVersus will also include 1v1 and 4-player free-for-all modes.
Player First Games revealed that MultiVersus will feature an all-star cast of voice actors who will reprise some of their most iconic roles. Kevin Conroy as Batman and Tara Strong as Harley Quinn are joined by the likes of Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy and John Di Maggio as Jake the Dog.
MultiVersus launches in 2022 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. The game will be free-to-play and will expand through various seasonal updates.
