Computer-savvy gamers believe they have figured out another character that will appear in MultiVersus, the upcoming free-to-play crossover fighting game by Player First Games and Warner Bros., and it's no other than Gizmo from the Christmas-themed horror film, Gremlins.

The information about the latest datamine is available on Reddit and reveals that there are reportedly somewhere between 100 and 150 voice lines "for Gizmo and a Gremlin." The poster speculates that either Gizmo will transform into the mogwai's more monstrous form as part of his move set (something that notably doesn't happen in the film) or there'll be a second Gremlins character in MultiVersus. Some speculate the second character would likely be Stripe, the main antagonist of the movie and leader of the rogue batch of creatures.

This isn't the first datamine that has revealed potential roster members. An earlier one unearthed a myriad of characters from all corners of Warner Bros.'s immense catalog of pop culture IPs, including Legolas and Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, Joker and Raven from DC Comics, Neo from The Matrix, Ben Tennyson from Ben 10, Lebron James from Space Jam: New Legacy and Taz from Looney Tunes. While gamers will have to wait a bit longer to see if any of these characters (Gizmo included) actually appear in the final product, Player First Games has confirmed several fighters like Garnet and Steven from Steven Universe, Shaggy and Velma from Scooby-Doo and Arya Stark from Game of Thrones.

Announced in 2021, both the MultiVersus announcement trailer and subsequent gameplay previews highlight cooperative action, which is relatively uncommon within the platform fighter genre. The game will feature 2v2 battles and move sets that boost synergy between teammates.

Written by Chris Columbus and directed by Joe Dante, Gremlins was released in 1984 and is now considered by many to be a cult classic. The story follows a young man named Billy who receives a strange pet, a mogwai named Gizmo, for Christmas. However, when Billy's actions cause Gizmo to spawn more creatures, who end up transforming into the titular destructive monsters, it is up to him and Gizmo to save his town from the ensuing havoc.

MultiVersus is set to launch this year for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC, and Gremlins is available on HBO Max.
