One of the most exciting things about MultiVersus is the potential for new characters to be added to the roster. While the usual suspects like Batman and Adventure Time's Finn the Human were part of the initial roster, all of Warner Bros.' intellectual properties could be on the table for future updates. So far, LeBron James, Morty Smith, Black Adam and Gremlins' Stripe have been announced as additions to MultiVersus' roster, and Season 1 hasn't even officially started.

Warner Bros.' deep bench of beloved characters has led to speculation that characters like The Matrix's Trinity or The Sandman's Morpheus could be added. While there is a legion of characters that could be on players' wishlists, one has emerged as a clear favorite: Breaking Bad anti-hero Walter White. The groundswell of support for a prestige TV character in a fighting game is bewildering for anyone who isn't that familiar with online trends. Could it actually work?

The push to get Walter White into MultiVersus has become a meme. Twitter is full of fan art of Bryan Cranston's chemistry teacher-turned-drug-lord trouncing the game's cast. Renders of White in the game's style, including a mod that can be downloaded on PC, fit the game's aesthetic surprisingly well. The meme has taken off to the point that members of the game's developer, People First Games, have acknowledged it.

Character artist and avowed Breaking Bad fan Dan Eder has approved of the idea. MultiVersus director Tony Huynh didn't add his own comments, but he did retweet a graphic that projected White and Animaniacs' the Brain as the winning team at EVO 2023. The graphic projects more out-of-the-box characters joining the game, as the pairing of evil geniuses beats out teams that include White's lawyer Saul Goodman and recent addition to Fortnite, John Cena.

The graphic came from the Twitter account called "Walter White For MultiVersus." The account's creator, who's either super committed to the bit or is genuinely invested in it, has come up with a guide for how White would play in MultiVersus. Acknowledging that White survived his encounters with murderous rivals like Gus Fring through his brains and not brawn, the guide imagines him as a "zoner/trapper" who makes up for his lack of martial arts skills by causing "lingering damage."

White's hypothetical abilities acknowledge the fact that White can't allude to cooking meth in his attack. His offense does take inspiration from Breaking Bad's most memorable moments, including using the pizza White angrily threw on his roof as a projectile attack. Having to avoid references to White's occupation illustrates one reason why his inclusion in MultiVersus is the stuff of memes. MultiVersus' aesthetics and tone are in line with its biggest inspiration, Super Smash Bros., which appeals to a wide audience. While she comes from a similarly gritty cable TV drama, Game of Thrones' Arya Stark fits in MultiVersus in a way White wouldn't.

The other reason that Walter White in MultiVersus is unlikely to become a reality is the fact that Breaking Bad isn't owned by Warner Bros. The only character in MultiVersus that isn't completely Warner Bros.' IP is LeBron James, whose inclusion in the game is based on his starring role in Space Jam: A New Legacy. White would need to be licensed by his owners, Sony Pictures Entertainment. It's an expense Warner Bros. is unlikely to pursue when the game functions perfectly well with characters that their parent company owns.

While the Walter White for MultiVersus movement may seem only slightly more sincere than the cult of Morbius, there's genuine sentiment behind it. Series creator Vince Gilligan has acknowledged attempts at a Breaking Bad game, including one in the style of Grand Theft Auto. All that's come of that is a short-lived mobile game and a Far Cry collaboration. The Walter White For MultiVersus movement pointed to this unfulfilled potential as a reason the idea has resonated with fans in an interview with The Loadout. Walter White for MultiVersus will most likely remain a meme, but the interest in Walter White's inclusion may move someone to make a video game star out of him.
