Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi thinks the question regarding the power level of Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange is more complicated than it initially seems.

Speaking to Fandango, Raimi explained that while both characters are strong in their own right, they have different advantages to aid them in battle. "Well, I think Wanda's magic, from Marvel lore, is more powerful than almost any of the other characters in this picture, but Doctor Strange has the knowledge of the mystic arts that Wanda doesn't have, and he's got the help of Kamar-Taj," said Raimi. Despite these clear differences, the director is still unsure of who would come out on top if they two had to fight.

"If you were to pit them against each other, different altered versions of themselves ... there could be a Doctor Strange out there that's more powerful than our Wanda," continued Raimi. "Or there could be a Wanda out there who is more powerful than our Wanda here. So, because of these altered versions, it's all a mixed bag of possibilities."

While Raimi's answer takes into account the different variants of the characters that exist within the multiverse, other members of the production team have a more definitive answer. "I don't know who's more powerful than Wanda," said co-producer Richie Palmer. "Meeting the Wanda Maximoff at the end of [Avengers: Endgame] would have been a lot for Strange. Who comes out on top as the most powerful being in the universe? Maybe we find out at the end of the movie."

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will serve as a spiritual sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home as the titular sorcerer is forced to confront the consequences of his actions. Benedict Cumberbatch's Master of the Mystics Arts will embark upon a universe-hopping quest that will see him come face-to-face with several evil variants of himself, as well as the MCU's take on the Illuminati. Along the way, he'll also have to contend with Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) who is seemingly using her newfound abilities to bring her children Tommy and Billy to life after the tragic conclusion of WandaVision. While it's currently unknown if Scarlet Witch will serve as the movie's main antagonist, fans suspect that she'll put up a decent fight.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 5.
