During last night's Video Music Awards, MTV debuted the second trailer for "The Shannara Chronicles," the upcoming fantasy-adventure series based on the bestselling novels by Terry Brooks.

Set thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization, "The Shannara Chronicles"  follows the Elven princess Amberle, the half-human half-elf Wil and the human Eretria as they embark on a quest to stop a Demon army from destroying the Four Lands.

The series is written by "Smallville" creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, who executive produce alongside Jon Favreau, Dan Farah, Jonathan Liebesman and Brooks.

Debuting in January, the series stars Poppy Drayton, Austin Butler, Ivana Baquero, Manu Bennett and John Rhys-Davies.
