Brooke Williams (Spartacus: Blood and Fire), Marcus Vanco (Unbroken) and Australian soap actor Daniel MacPherson have signed on to MTV’s Shannara. They join a cast that includes Austin Butler, Manu Bennett, Ivana Baquero and John Rhys-Davies.
Based on Terry Brooks’ bestselling fantasy epic, the series is set hundreds of years after the destruction of our civilization, in a world that’s reverted to a medieval state. There, the Shannara family, Elven nobles empowered with an ancient magic, continuously reshape the future of the planet. The first season adapts the second novel The Elfstones of Shannara.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Williams will play the wise Elf Catania, handmaiden and best friend of Amberle (Poppy Drayton). Vanco takes up the role of Bandon, who suffers from ominous visions and is thus cast out from his family, only to be found by Wil (Butler) and Amberle. MacPherson will be an heir to the Elven throne named Arion. With his sights set on the crown, he dedicates himself to his father King Eventine (hys-Davies) but hits a snag when his niece Amberle goes missing.
Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar are writing Shannara and executive producing alongside Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman, Dan Farah and Brooks. Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) will direct the first two episodes.
