British comedy The Inbetweeners is about to become the latest show to cross the Atlantic, as MTV has greenlit an American version with Arrested Development's Brad Copeland in charge.

Inbetweeners - the original version of which runs on BBC America and is well worth catching - follows four teenage boys who aren't cool enough to be cool, nor geeky enough to be geeks (Hence, "inbetween" social niches), and has been both a critical and rating success in the UK. MTV's executive vice president of scripted development, David Janollari, counts himself as a fan, calling the show "unique and bold... universal and simply hilarious."

The American pilot will be written by Copeland (who also worked on My Name Is Earl, with British creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley acting as executive producers. Casting is currently underway.
