MTV Orders 'Scream' to Series

More than two years after word first surfaced about the project, MTV has given a series order to the television reboot of Scream. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it will premiere in October 2015.

The series, from Dimension Films and The Weinstein Company, will star Willa Fitzgerald, John Karna, Carlson Young and Amadeus Serafini. Jill Blotevogel (Harper's Island, Ravenswood) is serving as showrunner.

Created by Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson, the Scream franchise centers on Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), who's targeted by a succession of serial killers who adopt the guise of Ghostface. The 1996 original led to three sequels; collectively, they've grossed more than $600 million worldwide.

It's been reported that MTV's reboot won't be using the signature Ghostface mask, but may incorporate supernatural elements, both of which would distance the series from its movie roots.

The TV series will be executive produced by Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Craven, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad.
